| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 2:27:51 PM | i'd go with 69's reply. well, i can't see myself actually say anything but just laugh out loud and walk away. but if i had to say something..i'd say that.
though, i don't find it offensive at all. ladies with tattoos are just not his thing. i'm not into guys with tattoos...it's a complete turn-off for me. i keep reminding my bf that its so unsexy for me to see a guy with tattoos (since he's contemplating on getting once sinec the days before i've even met him). but in public, i probably wouldn't blurt out things like him though.

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 2:58:22 PM | I was at my local gnc this morning, the cashier a man that looked to be in his 60's , commented on one of my tattoos " Hummmm , a rose! I quess you got that in you WILD days" Annoyed by his RUDE comment, being that the tattoo was only a couple months old...I lowered my shirt a bit to show him the OLD TATTOO... u know the one from my wild days (lol).
I am not exactly sure what was so rude about his first comment. It is an apt comment since you admit to having wild days and you permanently wear such a badge on your skin for the world to see.
And you seem to be offended that he was wrong about when you got it, which is not what I would think would be the offense here.
And I am not exactly sure why you thought the appropriate response was to lower your shirt and show him another tattoo.

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 3:06:14 PM | OP you sort of brought it on yourself, lifting your shirt to show the second tattoo, don't you think? If you dont' want to hear comments about your tatts, then don't show them.
As for him being inconsiderate or rude, I agree. I also think you shouldn't be lifting up your shirt to pervy old men.
|
| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 3:25:54 PM | I would not have lowered my shirt, that was an invite for him to continue the conversation.............
I might have said......"old man..............mind your own business" and maybe talked to his manager. There has to be customer respect.
|
| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 3:34:46 PM | My reply would've been: "My wild days? I haven't stopped being wild." And to the other comment: "Well, I'm not offering, so you don't need to worry." | |
|
| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 3:39:45 PM | A good reply would be: damn, I miss out again!
That was a good friend of mine's reply to a similar situation. She's about 5"9' blonde, in really good shape (she was in town to run the Boston Marathon) and yes, she smokes in this free country of ours! We were standing outside and she was smoking her 1/2 a cigarette, since she cuts way back before a race.
This gigantic, red-faced, no-neck, giant bellied guy in his 50s, who looked like he'd been eating nothing but sausage patties since he was 12, walks by, points at her cigarette and says "it was almost a perfect picture."
Old guys love to comment. There's just not alot else they can do.

I'm with this guy ^^. The old guy is in his 60s so think back to when he was young, when tattoos were not as commonplace as they are now. To him, he probably associates tattoos with bikers, rebels, cheap women etc (not implying you are cheap at all lol). I have 6 tattoos and I definitely would've just ignored the comment or just said something like "Yep." and walked away. There's so many worse things a stranger could say to really offend a person, a simple comment that wasn't true from some old man working at a GNC is not one of them. However, when you lowered your shirt (trashy move), I think it's hysterical that he said what he did. Bet that shocked you into pulling your top right back up.

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 4:59:34 PM | I am no way a rebel....just love body art. It's mistaken that i lowered my shirt to were he could see cleavage and more. Not so.... REGARDLESS if i raised shirt and showed him nipple rings and all... ( rotf@ the thought of his reaction )... does not give him rights to speak in any sexual manner to a customer at a place of buisness! :D I loved some of the witty comebacks.... think i was too shocked at this dirty old fool to say anything...not to mentioned grossed out at the thought of his old A$$ peter doing anyone...LOL ( sorry) | |

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 5:40:50 PM | Out of strict curiosity, Poster....
What would your reaction have been had a dirty, young fool said the exact same thing to you?

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 6:00:02 PM | I so wanted to comment on your story, but you aren't asking about how we feel regarding your reaction only what ours would have been. My reply to "Hummm, a rose! I guess you got that in your WILD days!" would be to say "YEP! Sure was!" finished the transaction and left. My response to "I would never have sex with a woman that had tattoos," would have been one of the following: "Wow, you miss those asian hookers from the war?" Stabbed him in the neck, peed on the corpse, and looted the store. "Do they sell tourette syndrome med's/Viagra at GNC?" Jumped over the counter, shagged him rotten, then proclaim loudly "LIAR!" while pointing a finger in his face while he cried. Ask him if he has had any opportunity to get some in the back of his dial-a-ride. ask him "What makes you think I am really a woman?" "If not with tattoos, then how about herpes?"
I just do not understand this constant need for escalating verbal retribution or demand for respect as though people should behave towards an individuals idealized version of behavior so my responses may not make sense.

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 8:08:42 PM | | You did the right thing. Why waste the energy being offended? Does this man's opinions mean that much to you? In the first place he probably didn't realize he was being rude to you. In the second place you shouldn't let his opinions dictate how you feel about yourself. Everybody is different with different tastes and ideas. If he doesn't like your tattoos that's his prerogative. On the other hand you probably didn't want to sleep with the old fart anyway. | |

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/25/2008 9:42:18 PM | maybe cause he only has sex with guys who were tats..ya never know..there are alot of freaks out there...maybe he just misses his jail(special)buddy who had a rose tat on his a$$ | |

So what gives you the right to show your nipples, rings and all, to a complete stranger in a public place?
Because he's a male and you are a female?

| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/26/2008 7:35:29 AM | WOW..I'm a little amazed at all of the rude responses from you all here. What ever happened to treating others like you want to be treated? Ya know..kill 'em with kindness?
Anyways...I think this "problem" is that you are from completely different generations. When he was young the type of people that got tattoos were primarily outlaw bikers, prostitutes, sailors, and criminals.
Today tattoos are very trendy and a lot of people get them... maybe that's why he said "wild days"?
Just my opinion though..
|
| what would your reply have been.... Posted: 6/26/2008 7:42:18 AM | | My "reply" would have been silence. His comment wasn't worth dignifying with a response, and I wouldn't have wanted to lower myself to his level. Silence can speak volumes. | |
