If you didn't want comments on your artwork, what was the point of having it done? Do you really think the average person can tell the difference between an old tatoo and one that's a few months old? I can't or at least I've never made the effort to notice.

The world isn't all about you.

Comments are fine.
Criticism not ok.
He can make chit-chat about her tats saying they are interesting.
Telling her that her tats don't sexually do it for him is stepping over the line.

True Story:
I was a young sergeant in the military. I was looking at some comic books for some light reading in a book store. I have a programming degree so I'm not some illiterate
mook, I just like reading comics once in awhile. Some captain walked by me and made a comment," I see you doing some heavy reading"'. Without skipping a beat, I said, "Yeah, I'm studying for OTS (officer training school). He got pissed and mumble "don't think so" and walked off.
You can't stop people for saying stupid things to you, however, you don't have to take it.

True, the world isn't about her, but that doesn't give the world permission to crap on her.

this guy clearly saying one thing and meaning another..... maybe he is intimidated by the tats, feels that women that do have them are a lot more free willed that back in his day.......that was when dinosaurs roamed RIGHT? but fact is because the guy felt the need to lower the tone and express his sexual desires..... like every man he said completly the opposite to what he really was thinking........ you with me?

First of all you were way oversensitive. Lighten up. Second of all why did you show him your other tat?

I just think lack of class on both your parts. If thats being offended you need to lighten up IMHO. There are a heck of a lot more to worry about than a 60 year old cashier.

Beg to differ mthomjmark,
She did "lighten up". He expressed an interest in her tats and she showed another one to him. He lowered the tone by bringing sex into it.

There are a heck of a lot more to worry about than a 60 year old cashier.

Try not to take offence to this, but when you make comments like that on a forum board, it's a little irratating.
Of course there are bigger problems in the world. The Op asked for an opinion, don't belittle her for asking a question that may seem "smaller" than other problems in the grand scheme of things.

sorry, your tats stick out like a sore thumb...and they take away from your natural beauty. however, it still does'nt give some old fart the right to offer his unsolicited opinion.but...not everyone in this world thinks tatoos are cool....depending on what and where they are on a woman can make you look cheap

Why didn't you simply laugh and say, 'yup' and walk away?!? Instead you fueled his fire and gave into his nonsense! The best way to deal with someone who bothers you in anyway is to ignore and remove yourself from the situation!

"Yeah, yeah, yeah... wanna mind your own business and give me my f u c k in' change, please?"

It's not very witty, but I've found it to be effective.

Something a bit more witty: "And I'm not an archeologist; I don't dig fossils."

Practical: "What a shame... I was looking forward to spending an evening changing your Depends."

On the slightly morbid side: "That's okay, the feeling is mutual. Besides, necrophilia is a crime."

I may be out in left field here, but did it occur to you that maybe he thought you were making a pass at him by pulling your shirt down? While I realize the only reason you lowered your shirt down was to show another tattoo, he may not have. As well, it appears to me that you feel his comment was rude because he was implying your wild days were now over not that you actually had a tattoo.

Cheers,

A

Your right, i didn't mind his sexual comments , i was shocked 2 find out that my "wild days" were over !!!
LOL.....

~~~~~~but did it occur to you that maybe he thought you were making a pass at him by pulling your shirt down~~~~~~~
Once again you are right... i pulled down my shirt... whipped my girls out and pointed to a tattoo...nips and all. Im just upset he turned my pass down!
The rest of you PRUDES are right too...
I got body art so people could speak to me in any manner they found fit. Your right, when I go into a supplement store I expect to be treated as if im in a bar....:)~
And last but not least.... your right I am UNCLASSY thats why I didnt make any comments back to him, and my tattoos take away from my beauty... so true. Wish I could be as perfect and wonderfully classy as the rest of you :D !!!
OP....
That is uncalled for. I did not imply that you showed your breasts. Nor did I imply that you did anything wrong by lowering your shirt(your words). The way I look at that is if your breasts were shown to the gent, your intention was to show the tattoo not your breasts. Keep in mind you are talking about a different generation and he MAY have misinterpreted it as sexual, hence his reaction.
I may have missed a post or two, but I did not see any reference to tattoos=no class or that you yourself were less classy.
Remember as long as you can live with your actions at the end of the day, that is all that matters and counts.
did u miss the post were i explained how NOT EVEN CLEAVAGE was shown?
by my showing him the 2nd tat was my way of easing his foot out of his mouth... no way could it have been taking sexual!
His "generation" knows better then to throw around sexual banter in the work place....
If i couldnt live w. my actions.... then i wouldnt be able to joke about the comments i have recieved
I think I would of said something like "Generations are different now, than when you were younger"
I do think his opinion was out of line, no matter how old someone is. If it wasn't asked for, it is rude.
Ok, I get it. You showed him the 2nd tat and no boobie part was included. He made a comment that he may not have even realized was taken the way you did - which is how ANYONE would have taken it - but due to his age and the generation he grew up in, he just didn't know.
I've heard all kinds of stuff from people his age and older. They think they're doing you a favor - setting you upon the path of the straight and narrow and away from your harmful/sinful ways. They don't understand how their words come out though - they don't realize how things are taken.
I would have just laughed and said "that's ok - my girlfriend loves them!"
At least - that's my personal take on it.
I was at my local gnc this morning, the cashier a man that looked to be in his 60's , commented on one of my tattoos
" Hummmm , a rose! I quess you got that in you WILD days
I don't see what's rude about that comment. It's just a comment, and I'm sure everyone here has made some inane comment to someone at some point. It's just chit chat!
I agree with the poster who commented that you would have no right to show your breasts and nipples in public--that would be tackier than any of the cashier's comments.
I wouldn't have said anything because he is just some old guy trying to make small talk. I have more important things to worry about then if a cashier disapproves of my choices.
Actually this thread seems a little attention seeking.
My very first comment would have been "Pardon me?" in a shocked tone with a facial expression to match. That is generally an effective end to any unwanted dialogue. For him to comment on your tatoo, other than in a complimentary manner was extremely rude.
The wilder days comment is not as bad, but the " I would never have sex with a woman that had tattoos " was way out of line for a employee to talk to a customer.
