| what are the worst cities you've driven in? Posted: 8/30/2008 11:50:31 AM | Los Angeles has to be the worst I've driven in. Slow, heavy traffic almost always. Frustration making some drivers do crazy things. And so far to drive to get away from it all. A hundred miles of crawling traffic from Oxnard to Irvine, 75 from Santa Monica to San Bernardino. The worst I've ever seen was Moscow. So bad that we hired drivers to take us around. Poor infrastructure in the city. Cars packed solid with no attention to traffic lanes. just wherever you could move to get ahead. Outside of the center, seeing people speeding down the center of the highway with nothing but painted lines to separate them from oncoming traffic. Weekly fatalities when people traveling in opposite directions met. | |

their traffic jams are legendary.... in the evening you'll find you're cruising a whopping HALF MILE PER HOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when traffic finally does move, you better trust your driver to negotiate you through the ensuing CARMAGEDDON without any fatalities - it's kinda Good Luck and Buddha Bless !
there is even a book about it ~ The Cars That Ate Bangkok by Philip Blenkinsop

The people weren't that aggressive of drivers (well at least not compared to Chicago), but what fun is driving in a place that has a seedy film covering it? Not exactly aesthetically pleasing by any means.

| what are the worst cities you've driven in? Posted: 9/7/2008 2:57:42 PM | Technically I wasn't driving - But Cairo is chaos.
I was there last year, there are few (if any) traffic lights/crossings - Pedestrians just ran across roads, seemingly expecting the oncoming vehicles to stop or drive around them. Cars with massive chunks missing (like an entire passenger side) motored along unchecked, and headlights seem to be optional - even at night
Still - Fantastic city to visit.

| what are the worst cities you've driven in? Posted: 9/7/2008 6:27:40 PM | Kingston Jamaica.
It's crazy there. The locals drive so fast. They speed up behind you,, pass you forcing you to brake, hit or be hit, pass you on blind turns and there are alot of them on the island. Narrow roads are packed. They honk constantly to let you know they are speeding at you in your lane and you have no where to go most of the time. Their laws are so much different than ours in the states when it comes to safety. I was almost hit from two directions at once. I actually thought I was going to die right then and there, but by some miracle and quick action and intense breaking and great control of the car from my friend we missed what would have been a horrible accident.
I love Jamaica and the Jamaicans,,but driving there....Big problem mon!

| what are the worst cities you've driven in? Posted: 9/8/2008 9:23:02 PM | My vote for worst places to drive would have to be Barcelona or Seville Spain. the roundabouts in Barcelona are treacherous with up to a dozen interconnecting thoroughfairs and the streets in Seville were so narrow two austin mini's could not pass side by side... | |
