Why would anyone complain about a singles site for attractive people?
Discimination??.........lol, doubt it.......the country club allows only members, the 5 star restaurant demands a tie, the bbw site expects the obese.......
I'm pretty sure most people can pick out the naturally attractive people in a crowd without too much difficulty without all the dramatics.
I'm just wondering why these people get so bent about this new site??
What motive??

People have and always will have clubs,organizations,unions ect that exclude and limit membership.
I do believe that meeting certain standards for entrance into one of these is not necessarily bad or wrong.
I mean no one complains about universities or pro sports teams for setting the bar so high.
The old saying "if it was easy everyone would be doing it"holds true and just to be that small percent of
elite in whatever field you have chosen gives a great amount of personal satisfaction. | |

Soooooo, with your words,,,,I would assume that you personally consider "beautiful" people ELITE????
I believe steed that if this is true,,,your attitude is exactley what people consider ignorant,,,,which would, dare I say put you in the same category as the people that decide that this site is for "them" and not a whole lot of others.
And I guess if it gives you,or anybody "personal satisfaction" to be classified as "beautiful" then I would also suggest for all those that do,,,,take a real long look in the mirror. I'm betting you won't see THAT beauty for very long.
All, I want to know is when the site first opened "which" "beautiful" people were accepting (or okaying) the first of all the people in the lineup to join????

Posted: 6/26/2008 3:58:48 PM | ^^^ I had a similar thought Walts......it goes back to an earlier post of mine discussing base lines, commonalities, criteria. Who is the one setting the standards that allow people to pass thru the doors.
I recall doing an experiment in one of my Psych classes in University. Perception varies for each person, hence its a daunting if not impossible task to actually develop a base line/criteria to define beauty.
I worry more about the continual negative messages we are sending out to our younger generations. Why are we as a society always promoting such stigma's with the eventual goal of lowered self esteem for some?
I would be interested to hear from those that support this type of dating site, what they believe to be the deciding criteria for beauty.

I deal with some of the young ones with work and what comes out of their mouths about what is "hot" and what is not is unbelievable to the point of being scarey. I had a young female operator that actually considered herself and called herself the "hot operator". I personally called her (to her face) dumb as a sack of hammers,because no matter what she "thought" she really wasn't a good operator and that was all I cared about, not her little (well you know what) nor her ass. She actually didn't like it. Didn't bother me,,,she works for another company today. | |

Posted: 6/26/2008 4:08:21 PM | Don't worry about it Walts. Most of us fish could make it onto that site from what I have seen. We just need to scrub up, dress-up, and in some cases, air brush. What I think I noticed when I looked at that site was that the people were well-groomed and photographed. If they were serious in deciding whether those people are really beautiful, they would video tape them - watch their gestures, listen to their voices and check their pearly whites.
If a person is truly physically beautiful, it is actually by genetic fluke or accident.
I am curious about that site, as others are. I would be embarrassed if I made it on there and people saw me, because I think it would make people think I am shallow and I would worry that I would be dating shallow people.
Pip - I agree that to some extent that what we deem is beautiful is in our hard wiring, but with the increase in anorexic fashion models, we are also being conditioned to see certain body types as beautiful. You do make a good case though for beauty not being subjective. | |

All the women drooled and said "Heeeee's your boyfriend???? " OMG you are soooooo lucky!!!!
I ran into him not too long ago after... we'll just say over 20 years and he knew me right away. I on the other hand took 1/2 hour to figure out who he was, I was flabbergasted to say the least, time has not been kind to this poor man.
So much for the so called "beautiful people!"
What I want to know is, when one gets older and perhaps starts losing their perceived beauty, do they then vote them off the site?
I see a new reality TV show coming round the bend

Given that having large discs in the lip is considered beautiful in the Mursi tribe and that other people practice scarification, whole-body tattooing, etc., it's clear that 'beauty' is very much culturally determined. People today are being conditioned to think that the airbrushed professional magazine photos of people who have spent hours being made up and hairstyled represent actual living humans.
The craziness in it all is that the appearance of the skin on the outside of your head is used by some people to determine your value as a human being. I attended a ceremony yesterday where people were given very prestigious awards for their achievements over a lifetime. Not a one of them had a fashion model face but they had done absolutely amazing things. I'm sure if you suggested to them that they belong to an 'elite' site where only people like themselves were allowed, they'd laugh in your face.
Bottom line: people who actually think that a person's face should be the determinant of that individual's worthiness deserve each other so let them flock to that site. Saves us having to deal with them  | |

....I am satisfied knowing that I am a beautiful and wonderful caring person and that my friends is by far worth more than a mere site! | |

I know beauty. I have some beautiful people in my life, and I see some here in the threads, they would NEVER feel the need to be included in such a farce.

I started this thread to see what type of discussions could be generated. I personally enjoy reading others thoughts on controversial topics. You can't discount that fact that this is controversial.
I was also hoping to see if anyone was willing to step outside the box and actually attempt to define or give certain attributes that one may possibly use to determine beauty....sorry but the  made me do it.....seriously

HAHA I crack myself up!
I did look and while the cover page girl is a commercial model and hired specifically for that shot
the profile photos are no more impressive (especially the guys) than here, beauty wise.
The women are above average but certainly not "cover girl" beautiful.
AND ... They only have one page of photos even though they have numbers for many pages and a next
page option, selecting either gets you the same front page of selections!
I wouldnt join and I "Do" beauty for a business. I did it full time until age 35 and continue to
model and act past age 50. I have never taken credit for my genetic make up
I always thank my parents for that!
There is a flip side to having society's version of attractive on board that is not all its cracked up to be.
People are very exclusionary on either side and if you have smarts or self esteem and are female
in my business you are considered an irritant more than anything.
That is why I became a photographer early on in the journey and that has remained
my primary profession for many years.
There is a beauty criteria that our culture responds to.
And one for each of many other cultures.
Ours was established by the artistic community many centuries ago.
Before images were recorded with machines
oil painters determined what "painted" best.
High foreheads, thick shiny hair, large wide set eyes,
cute noses((by comparison to the norm at the time)
smooth, unblemished skin, (until recently white was the only acceptable version of that!)
full, even, naturally rose coloured lips.
Yikes!
I never met that standard and few do.
But, a few of those things can turn heads and these days
those heads have been wired into turning since before they were born!
Some heads don't turn for that stuff or part like the Red Sea when someone who
looks like that enters a room. I have often heard many variations on the
"and who told her her Sh*t doesnt stink
any time I entered a room alone, whispered as I passed(smiling and happy, (or in the can
after I thought I just had a friendly interaction) I might add
not with a sour expression on my face!
What I do know is if you are one of the few slim, somewhat traditionally attractive people
in a setting where you are surrounded by average lookers and THINKERS
you are ostrasized in a way I douht any of you can imagine.
Especially if you are over 30 and surrounded by similiarly aged people.
You can find my personal take on that without saying it quite as obviously as I have here!
