I'm torn... on the one hand I think the idea is basically obnoxious. On the other hand, I think self-proclaimed "beautiful people" deserve each other. I've had much the same opinions about MENSA, for years.

At least the site will collect them all in one place where we can easily see who they are, and make fun of them.

It does surprise me a bit this is from Toronto, seems like the sort of thing Vancouver would be more likely to breed.

quote]There is a beauty criteria that our culture responds to.
And one for each of many other cultures.
Ours was established by the artistic community many centuries ago.
Before images were recorded with machines
oil painters determined what "painted" best.
High foreheads, thick shiny hair, large wide set eyes,
cute noses((by comparison to the norm at the time)
smooth, unblemished skin, (until recently white was the only acceptable version of that!)
full, even, naturally rose coloured lips.

Thanks for the great post, Rita!

You can sort of see why some attributes would be deemed attractive. I suppose thick hair, unblemished skin and rose coloured lips are all indicators of good health. As a species, it is very important to our suvival that we are attracted to healthy looking people.

I am not sure what difference nose size makes. I suppose a small nose is seen as more feminine.

What I find interesting is that the truly anorexic look is not healthy looking but many people find it attractive.

I like a nose, NOSE ! I find them more unique and represent character to me!(go figure)
and ... I don't have one! The grass is often greener in my mind Xavery!
Thanks for appreciating my post.

YA ,yuk! the anorexic thing.
All I can figure is a subject photographs longer and more "graphic"
when they are tall and angular and so they are in demand for fashion
and luxury item ads. I have a personal campaign against stereotypes
as a photographer and seek "real people" who break the beauty code
as a reaction to my experience in front of the camera.

I do know from struggling to get runway work (too round,, too short),
I was often too some thing or not enough of something else!! lol,
that the big original designs (haute couture) favour lots of fabric
and are cut very long. I looked like a orphan trying them on in fittings
so only the skinniest, tallest, giraffe like women got runway, work until
Victoria's Secret shows and Tyra Banks came along!

Aaaaah .. so the subject is about "appearances/looks" - external painted illusions! And here I thought it was about Beautiful People! lol

I know lots of extraordinarily Beautiful People .. some have most of their teeth, some have clean clothes, some even have homes! Every one of them would stop and help Any one of us, if we needed a kind stranger to lend a hand.

ps
to the poster who felt it necessary to "explain" to me the purpose of this thread - umm I think I got it ;). I know who I am so I am also aware that I have a rather large heart and therefore I am beautiful as is most every other person on this site .. at least we All have the capacity.
The mirror is the last place a person will find their True beauty - no matter what they look like.

Well, all I can say is why not? Like attracts like. So be it.

Those that place great value on appearance have a chance to be with others that do too. Think about it....they certainly will have something in common -they may even value the same things. Just happens to be beauty in this case. No different than any of the all-somethingorother sites that are out there. There truly is something for everyone...It's all good in my opinion....

There is also a presumption that people with a certain level of attractiveness are dumb as posts
or have no "inner beauty/worth" and for that I have been excluded without any effort by the excluders
to find out more. Once I have something (in my case and for more than most realize)
it frees me up to focus on more important things.
I am satisfied by my humanitarian and activist history which has endured ALL of my adulthood
and has been facilitated by my careers!

People who assume I have nothing else but what they see physically
don't necessarily have INNER beauty strictly due to their appearance.
That is a very common assumption and it predominates as much on this site
and this thread as anywhere.

I prefer the "to each his own" approach and that includes a wide range of people
that I am attracted to given the right personality.

I'd think that anyone that presumes their attractiveness and talks about it like a hobby is'nt that paticularly attractive.
I also think that most avg appearing people have pretty much the same opinion, hence some of the replys........

It's the same old story, anyone very avg looking can look extremely attractive by their personality etc.....
Anyone attractive, physically speaking, can look extremely unattractive very fast by opening their mouth....

Remember Pierre Elliot Trudeau - not really good looking, but he had charisma.

This is why I think if the website was serious about beauty, they would have applicants tape themselves and send it in. People can be extremely photogenic and not look as good in person.

Temp50 - If it is a persons goal to be beautiful, the technology is available now. Average looking people can be made look extremely beautiful. Some people even get addicted to plastic surgery. However, I don't think that was the point you were trying to make above, which, by the way, is a good one.

I have known some truly physically beautiful people. The interesting thing is that they don't usually consider themselves beautiful. They know their flaws and will point them out to you. I have never met anyone who would come straight out and say that they were physically beautiful. It is very unusual.

I've never seen anyone........^^^^.......that's very avg go thru cosmetic surgery and come out a bombshell.......no one.

You can add huge boobs, improve a fugly nose , suck the bejessus outta yer huge ass and stuff but.......

Really making someone attractive???........No, just an improvement, more so for the persons self esteem vs natural beauty.
Rosanne Barr is a good example of that.

It's the natural beauties that benefit from cosmetic surgery, usually that's just trying to fight the aging process.

I think more look worse from cosmetic surgery vs not, take Joan Rivers or Cher for example.....way over the top, oh yah, that lil weirdo Michal Jackson too.......

Actually I was just playing devils advocate,I don't consider them elite and if you take a closer look at the site you can obviously
tell that they are using pro models to entice you.
Next you find out that if you are accepted it is a pay dating site which raises red flags for me.
I have had bad experiences with pay sites, most are scams which use automated messages, fake profiles&accounts, they string
you along just to get your money every month.
At least this site which although I am sure has it's far share of posers is free.

Temp50 - Come to think of it I have never seen anyone made over by plastic surgery, but they say it can be done. Many celebrities have been accused of having a little tweaking done here and there. You know a couple of inches of the nose or a pound or two of lip plumper. I agree that cosmetic surgery actually improves the looks of the so-called beautiful people and they are the ones that gain the most from it.

Still, I think the average person could just benefit from a nonplastic surgery make-over and that they could go from a 6 or 7 out of 10 to an 8 or 9 out of 10 provided they have not been made over already. I am not saying that people need to be made-over.

I think we live in a make-over society and there is far too much making over these days. However, if beauty is ones goal, they might consider this. A lot of what we consider beautiful is just about taking care of ourselves - not letting the pounds pack on and keeping our muscles toned. Skin-care is important for the beauty conscience.

When it comes right down to it, beauty is hard work. We all choose whether or not we want to make the most of our natural looks. I am not even saying that choose to. I am just pointing out it is an option.

I hope I did not p#ss anyone off with this post, because I usually manage too, but I think I have been very diplomatic.

Sometimes you are really cuty X really!!
Remember nothing is personal, k! So I'm disagreeing with ya here.

Beauty isn't hard work, some have it and others may never get it despite what they may believe.
It is hard work for the surgeons indeed, and worst for them to know that no matter what "bombshell" they may be able to crate the sh!t inside is still the same. Even worse, nature and time work against the surgeons and especially the cheap ones here or off shore do know that, though it works to their advantage. Cuz once one has had that surgery and the effects wear off one will go back for a correction and time again works in favor of the surgeon, the return intervals will get shorter and shorter until finally they only have immobile scar tissue left. It may be perky and hard but will lack the mobility responses of an unaltered natural tissue...a mask.
the persons self esteem issue temp50 mentions is temporary and a wonderful sales pitch heavily promoted. Yes, some cosmetic medical procedures will cause little harm or side effects, still the emotional state of the patient will return to pre -procedure since they get used to the new, saying no improvement of personality or character. Perhaps in time brain surgery may correct that. LOL

So I care??? Gimme the real thing any day, that is much easier to deal with....then again I have been wrong before , don't hold it against me

ML - Okay, let's forget about surgery and yes, Michael Jackson's went badly. Personally, I believe it was because he had a subconscious desire to look like Liz Taylor and now his nose is too petite for a male face.

Let's look at one of the world's greatest beauties: Angelina Jolie, possibly inside, too. Okay, do you think old Angelina just rolls out of bed and looks as glamourous as she does in the supermarket tabloids and covers? For one thing, she has a lot of shaving to do. She admits to having a unibrow. Do you think she is not wearing make-up on the covers we see on her? And what about her hair? Do you think it naturally flows and curls the way it does? Granted - she is probably looks pretty good when she gets up in the morning, but to be considered one of the most beautiful in the world, she probably has to work a little at it.

Did you see the movie Memoirs of a Geisha? Geishas went to great lengths to be beautiful.

Men don't always understand that women work at being attractive. (To all you natural beauties, sorry, sorry and sorry.) Probably, only men like the guy on the cover of 24 understand that beauty for most people is work.

I know I'm hot as h3ll!!! lol - I pull my hair and take advantage of me every opportunity I get! lol (it's much easier since I stopped slipping me roofies!!!) haha

Beauty - I see beauty in Everything natural. Regardless of the external illusion, soooo many really good books are overlooked just because the cover is a little worn or isn't hasn't gold threading in the binding ..

As for the beauty in people, I find humans get more or less attractive according to their actions and how they treat others. There are some who could wear crowns in "beauty queen" contests, but are really quite ugly. blahblah

Personally, I would not (even if I were a Model) want to join a site that determines a persons worth by their temporary, external appearance.

Beauty is in the heart. I know my heart, so I don't need to cover up, hide or botox out my character lines ;)

I say those who want exclusivity on their sites ought have it! Seriously. That makes it much easier to avoid the shallow end of the pond!

Best

Beauty is in the heart.

Says the sexy Alien.

I've know and *gasps* been with women who base the entirety of their self worth on their physical appearance, also been with some some who feel their body is their best asset..guess thats what I get for dating strippers huh?....

Often times I have found those of external beauty rarely possess internal beauty to go with it, as for the better part of their lives the verification of their worth came from those who choose to see only the external, so I guess at some point they just said fvck it, I'm beautiful, therefor I am.......

Screw the website, I mean really, who cares?, (except of course the jealous)

Looks, when it really comes down to it, are just another reason to pass judgment on someone in our never-ending search for superiority, which of course is the boost for the egg-shell egos out there...if someone cannot find verification through others by what they possess on an intellectual basis then thats too bad, one day the looks will fade, and only then will they come to understand the error of their ways.

LOL - ML - I think AS is looking for someone who is beautiful on the inside. This in itself may be harder than finding someone beautiful on the outside. This is POF after all. Okay, friends, don't get p3ssed off at me. It is a joke - kind of.

Beauty - I see beauty in Everything natural.

sorry to disappoint daaarlin....but on a dating site that's called DESPERATE

interesting how you interpreted my words..?? desperate? for what??

I am a nature freak, I seriously do Love Nature and all that is Natural - ie unfettered by human hand. Of all things I am desperate is not one of them!

seeing beauty in Everything natural: natural hair colour - I find that more appealing to "my" eye than that which is not 'natural'. Real skin vs made up .. Real, Natural - not phoney, fake or made up. I have a friend who has a tooth missing and I find her smile more beautiful than some that hollywood produces! lol
I prefer meteor showers to fire works - natural vs manmade ..

So, again mr. mountainguy, I forgot your name already! lol You pose with a horse out on the land and you didn't get that I was talking about Nature/natural vs human/fake! lmao .. Yeah I'm desperate! lmao

I see your true colours shining through, true colours and that's why I love you ...
don't say a word, they don't mean a thing, true colours, true colours are Beautiful
- like the Cyndi Lauper song .. the true you .. the natural you is where I find beauty .. or not! ;)

I think Kenny Rogers had the worst facelift ever ... he doesn't even look like him anymore & his skin looks like it's made of shiny plastic or like he's wearing a mask. And Ms. X, I believe Michael Jackson was trying to replicate the nose of Diana Ross, not Liz Taylor.

Often times I have found those of external beauty rarely possess internal beauty to go with it

I was recently told by a male friend that I was the nicest person ever & he wouldn't change one thing about me 'cause I was perfect/beautiful as is. So are you saying because I was told I possess this 'internal beauty', that I have no external beauty? (Dialing number of cosmetic surgeon now .....)

there is a difference between "back peddling" and correcting assumptions
now don't say I see humor in your posts, wow, so nice!
Does that mean I can get back to my usual self fun and pun with slight sarcasm?
