Are we doing something wrong or were they just lucky or desperate???
It really could be either. I ended up dating a girl who I literally saw walking down the street. She was with her friend, and the guy I had riding in the car with me knew her friend. We stopped so my friend could talk to her friend, and I had an instant attraction to the girl. I didn't ask her out, but I went on about her for a week. The next week (on the Fourth of July of all things), I ran into her AGAIN, and we ended up spending the day together, and stayed together for about 8 or 9 months. It didn't last, as we were young and stupid, but it was quite nice while it lasted.
So yeah, love sometimes does just fall in your lap when you least expect it. If I can find someone while driving down the street, then you can certainly find someone here.
