| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/27/2008 7:17:25 PM | | Pain? Mine didn't hurt at all. I realize that it depends on where the tattoo is as to whether it hurts or not. Mine is on my neck, and wasn't as painful as get ears pierced. | |

I just got a tat last fall at the ripe old age of 41. I don't really care what anyone else thinks of it. I got my first this year at ripe old age of 43, and I also dont care what anyone else thinks. They are personal to ME.

And couldn't agree more about it being personal. It's my body, and it's my decision.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/27/2008 9:27:17 PM | Moraima...I was freaked on getting my neck inked...thought it would hurt worse...but was pleasantly surprised that it did not at ALL, either! ;) (I kept thinking how senstive it is to a caress or a kiss...hehehe)
Worse spot for me was the lower back (tramp stamp)...but I have heard that is one of the most painful...so I figure...I have that one out of the way! LOL

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/28/2008 7:36:49 AM | | I got a tatoo at 25...which was 35 yrs ago....way before girls got tatoos...I have never regretted it...its a tiny butterfly and today soooo many girls have tattoos..and of course butterflies......I am a trendsetting grandma...of which I have 3 granddaughters......life is to be lived as we see fit...even if it does not fit in the realm of society.....enjoy it!!!!!!!! | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/28/2008 12:41:38 PM | | I had my one and only tattoo done 6 years ago...it is a small butterfly on my right shoulder...and is in memory of my Mum and Dad...Mum died in November 1984 and Dad in August 1996 and both time in the Church at their service there was a Red Admiral butterfly...to my family it became an omen...hence my tattoo...I got my sister to have one done too. Believe it or not it does bring some comfort although I am not religeous. I wouldnt have any more done...and didnt find it painful at all. | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/28/2008 2:23:09 PM | | Haven't got one yet. My daughters want us to all get matching ones. Just something small. They keep teasing me when I come to the city one day and have a few beers we will go for a walk to a special shop.....LOL.... | |
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/28/2008 3:40:17 PM | | When I was waiting to get my tatoo, this big biker person came over and said he had heard that I was getting a neck tattoo. He lifted his t shirt and said "This huge stomach tattoo didn't hurt as much as the tiny tattoo on my neck". That freaked me a little, but what can I say. My didn't hurt. | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/29/2008 4:24:15 AM | I have two facial piercings.
I don't believe that tattoos or piercings should ever be considered "a fashion statement".. as fads have a tendency to come and go. These are permanent. I also feel they should be well thought out in advance and never be done on a whim.. or the wearer may then suffer the consequences of having to have it removed by laser.. or hope it can be covered by an even larger tattoo. Piercings heal over.. but do leave a scar.. or remain open regurdless of taking the actual ring out.. especially with the longer it's in the skin.
With that said.. I also stated.. I have two facial piercings.
I waited until my 30's to get them.. as I wanted to be sure that's the way I wanted to go. I ice-skate.. or.. at least I used to ice-skate.. a lot.. ! I love jewelry.. and couldn't wear any except for in my pierced ears without it digging into my skin.. and causing welts or cuts.. or just plain losing them. Since I could wear studded earings.. and Indian women with jewels set in their skin intrigued me as a small child.. I thought.. piercing my eyebrow and nose would be a great way for me to be able to wear what I like.. and not have to worry about them causing injury. It works.. or.. at least worked for me. I have no regrets and love my piercings as much now as I did back then. They've become a part of me. To each his/her own on this one.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/29/2008 2:30:19 PM | Like my tattooed best friend says "People don't get how we live with multiple animals, and we don't get how they live with children". Again the devil made me say that | |
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/30/2008 12:13:05 AM | let me clarify:
I'm glad for not being a granny in response to the OT "Grandma, show us your new tattoo!", NOT for the fact of being a granny. heck by the age of almost 58, only modern science and level-headed spawn have I not become a granny yet.
I was responding to being asked to see my ink.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/30/2008 5:45:51 AM | Tattoos have always struck me as being the acts of insecure and impulsive people. That is....non-tribal tattoos. If it's part of somebody's culture (Maori, etc) then I,of course, wouldn't have an issue w/ it.
But seeing an older woman either w/ or getting a large visible tattoo (or tattoos) makes me think "Boy...she has to have a LOT of issues." And.....usually... that's the case.

When I see bashing like that, I think that the person has issues with anyone who doesn't comply with boring standards.

Watch out! You're going to get insecure and impulsive responses from them too. Basically, all those with an inferiority complex and a tattoo will now feel like having 'issues' with you to demonstrate their superiority over you.
When I see tattoos and hardware installed on bodies, I think chances of hepatitis go way up.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/30/2008 9:27:40 AM | Carneades...most people who have tribal work, have such because they like the look...it is not neccessarily their culture. Personally, tribal bores me.
I would not consider myself as insecure...though I am sure I have my moments just as we all do...impulsive? Sometimes! Nothing extreme...and my tats were definitely not impulsive, as I considered them for years prior to getting them.
Why can't it just be that some people like them, and some people do not??
I come from a family of bikers...grandfather/mother, uncle, father...and the lifestyle was instilled in me at an early age...one that I found I was drawn to and attracted to. Tats were a large part of that...and I was always amazed at the beauty of such. People utilize different methods if individualism...hairstyles, fashion, jewelry, etc...
I realize that you stated "usually" and so this does not mean ALL...but I think you were way off. Maybe someone who goes in to a tat shop and picks a design from a book and wants it inked that day is impulsive and getting it for the wrong reasons...but it IS their reasons.
As far as the comment about hepatits...umm...another responsibility in getting piercings or tattoos, is to locate a reputable shop or artist, and to check them out! When I first decided on who was going to ink me....I checked them out in a bevy of ways, then met with my artist and discussed my work...then made an appointment to go back later.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/30/2008 8:55:15 PM | Wow!!!!
I`m loving the responses from ladies. I think it is very cool that alot of women are using them as a permanent expression of the love and bond they have for family members. How very cool. If there was a reason to get one, I can`t think of any better!!! You ladies rock! Maybe I will be changing my mind about getting inked!

Aren't you worried about getting a disease? After all, you don't know where that needle's been, or the big burly guy holding it.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 6/30/2008 9:22:52 PM | | If you go to a reputable place I think it is fine. If you are so worried about disesases, better stay home and not interact with other humans period. We can live our pretend lives throughPOF forums. How does that sound? | |
