| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 8:44:24 AM | I have not seen those, SunnyT...but I did design a butterfly who's body was the Pink Ribbon...and I hate, hate, hate butterfly, rose, cross, cartoon, etc tats! LOL
However, I had a scare with IBC just this past Aug, in which I was told I would probably have about a year to a year and a half to live. The physical scars I have are slowly fading...the emotional ones of being so grossly misdiagnosed are, as well. (Of course finding out you will live, knocks the trauma of that, out!) LOL However,...I want such (down the line) as a symbol, not a reminder, of another huge impact in my life.
I sort of think of my ink as a living scrapbook. You keep photos of those things that you will never forget, right? All the magical moments with our children...I can envision every one of them, but I still appreciate the photos of such. ;)
I think you are most definitely less anti-ink than we think! LOL And some obnoxious ones really nauseate me, too...but I just stick with the "to each their own" thought. *I* would never get a cartoon character...how would that signify anything in my life?! But to someone else...who knows? LOL
Edit to add to Windroper vvv: That was an incredible documentary!! I remember some irony...the full chest of ink, no breasts remaining...and they still blurred out the nipple area! LOL One of my ink mags actually has one of the gals in it...absolutely phenomenal!

I think if you survive breast cancer, you should bear the scars proudly as well. My neighbor has one and it's very tasteful. just a pale pink ribbon, almost flesh color.
Don't you feel it is rather presumptuous to suggest to a breast cancer survivor (or a survivor of any kind of cancer which led to disfigurement) how she should feel or what she should do about her scars? In all honesty, I usually feel a little nauseated by wounds and scarring. That's just me. So I dang sure wouldn't want to have such a thing staring back at me from the mirror every day. Knowing a survivor of implant rupture and the years of hell/surgeries she has gone through, reconstruction would never be an option for me. If I was in that position I definitely would get a 'bra/vest tat.' I've seen a few on documentaries and they were awesome.

I cracked up at that remark. I've always said "I'm not a hearts and flowers... or fairies... kind gal so I would never get something like that." Hello! Rose! LOL! And the truck?! We made alotta great memories in that truck but the way he cherished it sometimes made me jealous as h***. I guess I should have been flattered. and I'd give my right arm to have that mowing obstacles back. The first time I mowed the field this year and came to that realization, I spent the rest of the evening ride and crying.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 8:58:45 AM | no, no...windroper....I didn't mean the physical scar. But the kinda emotional scarring, when you're recoved and can look back and be proud you are a fighter...kinda scar. The inner "healed wound".
I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. I did mean to presume anything.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 9:01:01 AM | Really obnoxious people really nauseate me, much worse than the tats. What are you going to do? They`re here. Cool tats for cool people and obnoxious tats for obnoxious people---that`s a thought. When you go to get one, you get interviewed and you have to go with one that most reflects your personality. Heck then we would know which guys were jerks and not to date. Just look at his tat. If he has a picture of Betty Boop with exposed breasts, good idea to pass! | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 9:04:53 AM | | I can understand tattoos on a woman in her twenties or thirties because it's become the culture of the young. But when I see a woman aged 45 with a tattoo, it's not attractive. I might hang a 22-year-old blonde on my arm to feel younger but she's more easily removed than a tattoo. And more fun while she lasts. | |

you get to have the Betty Boop tat, my dear!
I have no interest in getting a tattoo. I don't feel a need for the social acceptance of it.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 9:36:38 AM | Yeah....Imma guessing! LOL
Social acceptance? NOT. Again...HOW would it help me socially, if you have no clue I have such?!
Generational?! Dude...aside from true cultural tats, tattoos were most popular by our service people. And nowadays, most branches of the service have restrictions on such...though someone told me recently, they were relaxing those, as well. So it's actually another thing that the younger generation has incorporated from us! Kinda like the low slung, wide legged jeans...sheesh...I had those in the early 70's! ;)

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 11:34:30 AM | Actually Sunny, I have nothing on my body but two scars...one that is visible on my left chest from the chemo port, to cover it was the reason tatoos were ever discussed, and a much longer scar from the surgery. So I am not sensitive about people who have tats and have nothing to defend.
I just read the comment from that guy as being the type of person I wouldnt want to be involved with as being to closed minded and judgemental.
One of the reasons for the tatoo is after Joyce was born one day my younger daughter was crying that one day no one would remember Joyce...I asked her if she would ever forget her and she said no and I assured her I would never forget her...it was never about remembering my kids. I really like the idea that 8 years after she was born that my daughter wishes to wear her sisters birthdate for all to see. It was like me crying when someone asked me how many kids I had and I said two cause I didnt want to tell them about Joyce...it was to painful at the time, now it isnt and having the tatoo is a perfect way to symbolize her beautiful life and the hope she gave to my family.
It is also a way for my two surviving children to show their love for their deceased sister, each other, and me by all having the same tatoo minus the one part that is for the person themselves...I personally dont like stars, or butterflies...the baby feet and lotus I love for what they symbolize. If anyone has any good idea please feel free to share them with me.

guess that one went over your head
Not at all. I choose not to care about it.
If women over 45 feel a need to pretend that they're 30, it's not my problem.
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 11:45:12 AM | Oh Lawdy, lawdy....then why post about it, then...if ya don't care. Why are you on the "over 45" topics then? I think you'd be better off in hottieville, playin' beer pong and watchin' things jiggle. | |

As for the thread, I find it mildly depressing and slightly pathetic, although I'd hoped it could be funny.

Sorry we disappointed ya there, little guy
It's okay. I expect disappointment from older women these days. It's not critical.

OT: I work with a lady who had our Corporate logo tatooed on her wrist? Now that to me is a strange one. I mean, I work for a living and enjoy what I do, but to tatt the logo on my person? Nope, I think not!

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 12:44:59 PM | Kind of like corporate sponsors for a race car or athlete. Gosh, don`t say that too loud, before you know it corporations will be requiring being branded, like they don`t try to draw enough blood already. Wow, that is so Big Brother -ewwww! All I can think of is the old ranch branding irons or cattle, the mark of the Beast 666, how about imbedding microchips, or requiring Social Security Nos. tattooed on us. It`s all coming in the future---just wait. | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 12:50:10 PM | | lol Moonchild...that is brown nosing at an extreme level...or she forgets where she works and has to look at the logo to see! | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/2/2008 3:02:29 PM | Sapphireeyes - That is awesome of your daughter to come up with that ideal! I see no reason why the two of you can't get the same one in rememberance Joyce. My ex and his son did the same tat in memory of his dad/grandfather who passed away of cancer. Like Kat has done also with her daughter and the journey tribute. Think about it - it would be something you both would have to honor her memory.
I have 2 tats myself - rose on my right chest and a butterfly with tribal on my left shoulder. (yes yes Kat I know you hate those kinds of tats lol) But my next one is going to be white harley davison wings with corpus diem in the middle of the wings on my right shoulder. This one has alot of meaning to me as I survived a terrible accident and am blessed to be on this earth.
