| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 1:55:37 PM | geez I don't think I've ever seen such bias in a forum. For all you thumpers.. judge not lest ye be judged... I think is in your bible too.. have an opinion,,great..it's just NOT the only Correct one for someone else and their life. I did a test of sorts..while job hunting after retiring from my first job of 30 yrs.. I put on my resume, college grad with honors..guess what? I got 3x more interviews but at the end of each..I said..now with my qualifications would you hire me? certainly.. as I walked out their door, I simply said..not in this lifetime!.. so..just because some kid drank beer and partied for 4 years on my tax money or his parents money, he was more qualified than I with 30 yrs experience? So the Tatts are the same..you instantly judge someone with a tat..negatively and give the benefit of doubt to a person inkless? I hope you think about your onesided, negatively biased and predjudiced outlook..hard when your kid or her boyfriend comes over to visit you. why stop there? heck lets hate the jews and blacks oh and the kid down the street with orange hair because we don't like the look.. I am truly sorry to know that these kinds of people exist in my america..My family fought in every war since 1500 in the USA to help earn the right to be who you are, freedom of religion and most of all choice. Yes I am a vet and even my son in law is in the army, 4 tours of iraq..and headed to afghanistan.. So people..do what you like despite the naysayers and hatemongers looking out their windows at what others do..just to complain and have something to say.. disgusted Dusty

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 4:08:27 PM | | Okay, I should've worded it differently, I meant...spite the tat, she was an intelligent and witty young lady. Okay, what I really mean was, she wasMORE than a tattoo. But I was befuddled, I will admit that. | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 4:15:36 PM |
Ummm...that's quite simply because, ink has nada to do with intellect or smart choices...it is simply personal choice.
Just because YOU do not find it the "smart" choice for YOU...means nada to those who do.
Lawyers, doctors, physists, thespians, garbage men, fast food workers, politicians, military, etc...the list could go on and on. There is NO intellect or status associated with tats...they are amongst all walks of life.
This reminds me of how owning a scoot once had such a stigma attached to it..."the bad biker" or the "biker tramp!" Yeah...ok.
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 7:06:30 PM | Well gosh Harley, I was just tryin' to wiggle outta that one and it was a "dayum if ya do and a dayum if ya don't kinda thang".
But I know what ya mean.....I have many personal choices that were really good ones for me. I've likewise made some real doooozies !
The stigma thang..... I prefer to be a walkin' contradition.... I have a horse...it sho nuff don't make me a cowgirl. I'm an Okie but I ain't redneck. I'm in the oil business...but I ain't greedy nor am I rich. Fact is...most people who know me, also know a tattoo is not "me".
Why is that ? I tend to label people with tats with a certain stigma, but don't put me in a box of anykind ~ ~ !
I gotta remember to pray about that.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 8:36:13 PM | | well, I have seen some beautiful womens bodies ruined by putting a childish tat ona sleek body part. Tramp stamps, if done nicely and colorful, are ok and can be very erotic. But don't put one on your upper thigh where it partially shows when U wear shorts. Besides, its a dumb place to put one. The womans body is a beautiful thing. Why do you want to "ink" it up? | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 8:42:06 PM | no need for name calling ~ kind of far off the mark ~ WTF 's thumpers got to do with it?
It's a forum ~ you'll get varying opinions ~ some of us fail to see how a young child knows whats in their best interest at 19.
But you'd had to have been there on this one!
This was a small young woman , I picked her up and looked at her tatt like she was fine Guitar ~ and this tatt was 150 sq. inches of ink and wrapped around her body. Lots of yellow and green
Both her and the tatt were beautiful! but 19 ?
Whats hot now is lookng like you fell head first into my big tackle box.
Whatever blows your dress up ~
I wonder if having a bone in your nose will ever come into fashion or one of those African Yu Bangie lip plates. It sure catch wind on a scooter ~ might beat you to death at highways speeds. Not very pratical I suppose ~ but when is it ever?
It's purely personal taste ~ but things that have no purpose or function fail to amuse me much . If you can't ride it, eat it or spend it what good is it?
Skin illustration ? 30% are tastefully and professionally done ~~ maybe ~~ the rest go from fair to awful.
Anyone remember the old Rod Stagger movie "The Illustrated Man" back up and catch it ~ It's a true Classic and well worth viewing. Rod had a full body tattoo and those who stare at them , see their future. ~ It's wild and exciting for an old movie.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/13/2008 8:58:07 PM | Oh gosh Dance, I remember...you DID pick her up outta the water, and kinda twirled her around to get a better and said "look Sunny ! ~ look at this !" She didn't mind...almost like she enjoyed it !

I just kept thinkin'...."she's soooo young"

So what do you think about older peeps getting decorated, and what are some of the unexpected ones you have run into.
I have one and am planning to get one more. Tattoos for me represent the most proud moments that I have experienced throughout my military career. I steer away from the traditional tattoos that service personnel in those trades would get and try to get something a little more artistic and off the beaten path. I don't like to follow trends and prefer it to be in my own taste. My first one was done by a tatooist in Richmond BC back in 1988 who, back then, was ranked 5th best (Dutchman) in Canada and trained under #1 out of Alberta (Smilin Buddha). The next one I'm planning to get will probably be from Future Skin here in Ottawa. I've seen some pretty nice work coming out of there.

just sayin'.....

but ~ I'll agree, few people can get away with such a stunt ~ me being one.
I am the "largest " 190 pound non-threating man you have never met.
There is taste and tasteless manner in all things and power of presence.
Regarding the movie ~ It's setting is hot dusty summer , on the banks of a small flowing stream during the depression Era. ` Rod is a drifter, and is bewitched by a lovely witch sitting on her front porch of her old falling down wood house ~ As he walks the dirt road passed her house, a sign in the yard reads " Skin Illustration" ` ~ She charms him into her lair and he gets his first tattoo ~ only to be one of many as she carring him on a mental journey into both the past and future ~ of passion, love and children ~ only to some day dissappear leaving him truly "The Illustrated Man" and to walk the world alone with only a Palmiranen dog that stay in his burlap sack.

Do any of you know of anyone who got a tat and regretted it later? They won't admit it, most likely. I've known 2 people who voiced regret over tats. One is my elderly uncle whose 60-something year old tats are so blurred they just look like big dark spots. The other was my now-deceased ex. He and several others got tats by an amateur at a party, and it's difficult to say who was more inebriated. He regretted the tat (a skull in a bow tie and top hat over rolling dice and flames) cuz it was horrible work and it didn't reflect a lifestyle/mindset that remained with him throughout his life... or at least HE didn't think so. Heh! One positive thing I can say about it is that it served as an identifying mark so we didn't have to look at the damage from the crash.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/14/2008 8:27:07 AM | Well we have more in common than I thought Windroper, we both have a deceased former spouse, who died suddenly.
I suppose his regret, was your blessing in a way.

I have regrets on two: placement of one (an inch really can make a difference ), and on the lasting disappointment with my first. yes. we ink at our own risk....much like marriage & relationships. lol I own it.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/14/2008 10:47:17 AM | I wish my brother had had a tattoo. He died in a crash in 1977 and it took 10--15 years to remember what he looked like while alive instead of laying in that casket. I didn't want that experience again and I was highly upset when they told us someone would have to identify my ex's body. He had always instructed that he did not want his body enbalmed or viewed. I was relieved when they mentioned identifying marks, and described his tat and a surgical scar on his abdomen. So they were able to arrange the body and covers in such a way that all I could see was the arm with the tat. But... yeah... everything about him was regret mixed with blessings. | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/14/2008 9:56:19 PM | Well one good thing. My horse has a tat on his gums....a registered number. I can't see it but the vet said it's there.
I guess it's the same as brandin'. Alot more humane. I think.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/15/2008 7:48:42 PM | | Tattoos can be removed with lasers these days. Ain't no commitment in that. Come down to Texas and we'll burn a brand on ya. | |

...Hmmm, Never saw it, but it sounds like my kind of movie....I always liked Rod Steiger....I thought he was magnificant in "The Pawnbroker".
The idea of getting a tattoo has never appealed to me....besides I have a low threshold for pain. My son has a tattoo of a dragon that goes down from his shoulder blades, wraps around his forearm......it actually looking amazing.

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/15/2008 9:38:09 PM | | I am Nana to three sweet babies. I have 7 tattoos. My little ones like to look at them and always ask if they hurt, what they mean, why I have them. I tell them yes, they hurt, some have meaning, some just art I was attracted to. I was afraid on my first, that I would get tired of it, but that has never happened, has been more than 10 years. The only thing is, you have to keep a watch on your tats, make sure the color stays bright, the lines are crisp, and do not burn in the sun. I tell them that some of them are to remember things by. One of them is a memorial for my husband who died last year. They understand that one the best. Papaw was awesome!!!!! | |

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/16/2008 1:37:52 PM | | It's sacreligious vandalism. Your body is a temple of God. He doesn't want graffiti on it any more than you would want someone vandalising the home where you live. | |
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/16/2008 1:47:55 PM | Indydude HE doesn't want it??? like HE has a say in it for me? uh uh, if I decide to vandalize my 'temple', I have no one to answer to, but myself. peace | |
|
| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/16/2008 1:59:51 PM | Indy..
You are assuming that we "all" believe in "your" God. I try not to assume anything about anyone one elses religion.. as some (ancient) religions believe that marking the body is reverent. "You" may believe that marking the body in anyway is vandalizing the temple.. I do not.. as many others don't aspire to those same religous philosophies. JMO

| Grandma, show us your new tattoo! Posted: 7/16/2008 5:35:47 PM | IndyDude...
The verse in the bible you must be referring to is Leviticus 19:28. It says, " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD ."
The meaning behind such comes at a time when people from different religions, mainly Pagan, were cutting and tattooing themselves to honor the dead, and to come in good terms with Pagan gods.
However...MY GOD is a modern God. And I don't deem myself Christian or Spiritual because I live by the word of the bible. If I did, I would also have to consider verses such as, "Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed." "Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds" "When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden." "Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it." "Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."
Do YOU practice those few examples, IndyDude?? ;) OMGod...pray for me...my blended cotton/polyester shirt is sending me straight to Hades!
