but I will say that I find it interesting that even you are talking about 'not letting emotion cloud the facts'. Ho hum... same old, same old..

I debate with emotion. It may be that I tend to be quite expressive but fear not.. My head is right here on top of my heart and both are being used about equally... I also debate with facts and I research my topics.

If that sounds emotional to you... well... it is...

You said it first, I'm just agreeing. What I'm not agreeing with are your "facts".

He killed both his wife's parents too, I think this guy was a danger and not just to women and children. Dude was crazy, more could have been done and it wasn't. Mentally unstable people with a history of violence don't need religious fanatics to keep them locked up, they need people with common sense and a bit of ability to take some flack.

Yes.... and the coroner's jury wanted to know why... That's the point of this thread... How can we fix something if we don't know what is broken?

While I truly believe in prosecutorial independence, I also believe that they are well paid public servants. If their representation is to protect the public, part of that protection should include giving those who are dealing with domestic violence on a professional or private level, the ability to make informed decisions that they can rely on. IF someone is going to be accused of several serious assaults and not going to be detained... IF the system is going to rely on restraining orders (pieces if paper to the offender) KNOWING that it might take the police 10 or 15 minutes to get to the victim... IF the system is understaffed, underpaid, overworked to the point where they can't properly investigate or using budgetary reasoning to leave women and children at risk... THEN I say that the duty to act in the best interest of the public, is NOT being honoured. You can't reasonably leave people who are in fear of their lives without these important facts by which to make decisions that may cost them their very lives!!!

Of course accountability is important, more than likely though the laws are in place because if someone is wrongfully convicted on bad evidence it's still gonna be the prosecuters fault, for cases like this I can understand questions being asked but obviously there accountability is one of those things that in todays society is a slippery slope that causes a lot of problems. Sure someone's need's to be accountable, nobody ever wants it to be them. That's the battle we're gonna be fighting, until then men and children are gonna be at risk and it's unlikely someone is gonna be responsible.

But...accountability is more important when it comes to whether the system is able to do a thorough assessment to determine the likelihood that a person who has made threats or acted violently towards another person is likely to cause them harm or not.
