Couldn't agree more. The UK may not be exactly what we want it to be but if these posters took some time to learn about other countries, instead of just rubbishing our own, they might just discover that we are not too badly off!
No, I don't think much of our current government (bring back Maggie!) but, on the whole, we don't do too badly in the UK.

| Traveler coming to UK ideas? Posted: 6/30/2008 11:46:47 AM | Scotland!!
Edinburgh has a beautiful castle slap bang in the middle, a mountain in the middle of the city too, loads of friendly (and some very haunted)pubs, great hospitality and it is absolutely dripping in history. There's even a city under the city.
Then it's a hop and a skip to some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery you are ever likely to clap eyes on. Head up to the Islands, Shetland, Orkney etc and you will find beautiful beaches with yet more amazing scenery.
Can't come to the UK (yes, there are other bits to us other than England), and not visit Scotland.

Seriously though, OP if you do have time, go and visit Scotland, it's steeped in history and has many beautiful places of interest..Edinburgh Castle being one of them. If you like magnificent scenery it's definitely the palce to go.....I'm getting homesick now!
Wherever you visit, hope you have a great holiday!

And don't forgot the Peak District. There's Peveril Castle in Castleton (a ruined Norman castle) http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.11598 as well as lots of great walking, open moorland, plane wrecks, chocolate box villages, caves, mines ...
If you want to see lots of castles it's probably worth joining English Heritage. You'll get their guide book and magazines as well as free entry to loads of places, including Dover Castle and the secret cold war tunnels. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.2
And if you want to try traditional English food - it's chips and gravy, not fish and chips. And curry is our national dish.
