| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 7/27/2008 1:44:15 PM | The round table developed wings!!
Good turn0ut, so the cook had to stay behind the swinging doors and suffer a bit more than should have been for her last day, but hey, we had some laughs, I got the royal treatment with a special chair that raised me up a notch or two .
Great to have met some new faces (for me at Kane's anyways) an some familiar ones too!! (almost said old, that would not be a nice thing to say to such a smiley bunch with knives at hand )
I will be there next week as well, but a slew may be heading to Strathmore for the Holiday shinanigans going on out there!

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 7/27/2008 8:21:44 PM | Thanks everyone for coming and making my last day at Kane's a memorable one!
You's weren't the only ones who thought I was best staying behind those doors.
I'm looking forward to being on the other side of said doors next week when I join whomever is going for Brunch....
Thanks again for making my Sundays worthwhile!!

Hope there was a good turnout and thanks so much for all the wonderful breakfast's Scarlet!!! Might join you there next weekend, I'll have to see how things go.

|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/2/2008 6:18:32 PM | ^^^ Sounds good GEM!
Dixon's Pub is at the intersection of Midlake Blvd and Bannister Road... just off Macleod Trail SE. If you take the Midlake Shawnessy Turn off and keep to the left you'll see Dixon's on the left. It's also a very short walk from the Shawnessy LRT over the Macleod Trail overpass.
15425 Bannister Road SE
They have eggs benedict for $4.99 (has to be ordered before 11am) and another breakfast special for $4.99 (has to be ordered before noon) breakfast is over at 1pm.
Some of us are meeting there at 10am
|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/2/2008 7:15:23 PM | ha ha, it has to be some other Sunday for Dixon. Gosh! you know they shut down the C-train route in downtown this weekend and it is a pain to get through there. Likely will go to Inglewood instead for the bus travel through 9 Ave and is one way. Will decide when I get up! | |
|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/2/2008 9:45:09 PM | I will be there, just haven't decided if I want breakfast or mac & cheese!!
Will let Jo know that we may not need the round table. Sounds like only 3 or 4 + those 1 or 2 that never rsvp!!
|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/2/2008 10:12:26 PM | I'm going to try and make it, but can't promise. We just got home, kiddo is in the shower washing off the days rodeo events and I'm not far behind him.
Depends on what time we get up and how long it takes us to wake up, I'm thinkin' it'll be a whole pot of coffee morning tomorrow!
If we do come, I can't stay long, as I have to drive him back out to Olds in the early afternoon.

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 9:00:16 AM | Fly, I think we'll be there, but wont stay long, have to dash kiddo back (I think you've met him before?)
He's a little cranky today, he stayed up after I went to bed, to play games, god only knows when he went to bed, and the kittens woke him at 7, climbing under his blankets and attacking his feet....
Welcome to my world kid....welcome to my world...(at least they left ME alone this morning!)

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 3:02:57 PM | All about that Inglewood. When I moved to Calgary 20 some years ago, all it had were second hand furniture stores along the whole 3, 4 blocks where Kanes is. Now it all has changed to upscale home decoration and coffee places, but I see that Second hand clothing store, the Dragon Pearl Chinese Restaurant and Fire security store are still there. Oh, there is a 100% Calgarian made Chocolate Store to be opened this coming Friday at a block down from Kanes. If I join you for Breakfast again next Sunday, I will check what's in there.
Was Kanes there too 20 years ago??
I had a nice brunch and nice to meet you all again. BTW, for those you know I have bought mixed dried Forest mushroom after I left Kane, that is for me to make scented California assorted wild rices for dinner this evening and yummy yummy. I have a good day today, at least so far

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 3:39:07 PM | It was nice seeing you Applepear, and that rice of yours sounds heavenly!
Next time you come, you'll have to bring some for us to sample!
I remember years ago when that area was just plain SCARY.
My car broke down in the area once, and I called my then husband to come and look at it or fix it or just take me home and have the car towed. I was parked in the sub shop parking lot, beside the old National Hotel. He was at work at the time and told me he'd be there soon.
I decided to sit on my hood and catch some rays, it was a hot day, and I had nothing better to do while I was waiting... at that time, I had no idea it was a stroll, and I got confronted by 3 'working girls', threatening me, I guess they thought I was trying to elbow in on their turf or something.... good lord, that scared the hell out of me (I was young and stupid! ). How do you explain to three scary looking people that your car broke down, you're a mom and just waiting for a ride, that you're NOT a working girl??
I ended up getting a sub and waiting in the sub shop!
Every time we go out for a smoke at the front of Kanes, I'm reminded of that incident, even though it happened almost 20 years ago! LOL
That area has definitely been cleaned up a lot.

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 6:23:48 PM | Inglewood is still quite scary, and I won't go down there by myself at night time. Just like today, I got off one stop earlier and there were 5 or 6 people right on the bus stop, but they were not waiting to board on the bus. They stared at me when I passed them, and I tell you it was kind of uncomfortable for me.
There is only 1 bus that serves between Forest Lawn and Bowness, that is #1 bus. According to my 23 Years Bus experience, #1 bus is always the most dirty and stinky bus in Calgary with all that smelly drinking people, bottle pickers and all other creepies. I use #1 bus maybe about once a month to see my clients, so with all these years experience I am not a bit exaggerated of what I have just said.
My rice turns out perfect and I top it with stir fry Red Pepper and Pineapple in Kikkoman Citrus Soy Sauce; I go veggie at home and it is super.
Try to see you next Sunday again!
|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 6:43:50 PM | Applepear, next time you come, and if we leave at the same time, I will give you a ride as I kind of go that direction anyways. I turn off at Deerfoot, heading North, but it's not a big deal to drive a bit out of the way if it will make you feel safer.
I don't know where you live, in the SE I assume? if so, it's really not a big deal for me to take you and drive a few minutes out of my way to get you home.
I know the uncomfortable feeling, and it's not a nice one. You mentioned something about Panorama today, I live really close to there, so if you ever need to go that way after brunch, let me know, I'll gladly give you a ride.
I know you're not exaggerating about the #1. Years ago, when I was a snot nosed kid, I used to ride the #1 all the time, and even back then it was scary. Can't imagine what it'd be like nowadays!
I'm glad your rice turned out perfect! From what you said, it sounded so good! Maybe you could give me some cooking lessons, always looking for new things to make!
|
| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 6:52:14 PM | Hey, Dixon's was pretty decent Eggs Benny for 5.00. Scarlet and I and Ms. Kacy went for Eggs Benny before heading off to the market.. .. Uhh yeah, we felt just fine.. NOT!!
Had to come home after all that and have a nap.. But as we speak, Cabbage rolls are a cookin in the oven.. Gotta love being able to buy them when you crave them!

| Calgary Sunday breakfast Posted: 8/3/2008 7:24:55 PM | Anytime applepear.
We all want to feel safe, and if I can make you feel that in some small way, then it'd be my pleasure! Besides, you're so darned cute, you could probably talk me into taking you anywhere!
