| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 1:41:11 PM | SNIIIIIFFFFFFF.........do you guys smell that at all???
I smell a redneck welcoming wrecker....
hmmmmm......... *goes to the corner to ponder*
|

| |
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 8:03:52 PM | hmmm..... maybe I'll be able to make it to the next one....
Depends on the weekend of course, but I shouldn't have a problem with doing a weekend swap with Kiddo in September.
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 8:51:50 PM | Sounds great!
HaHa! If I make the wrecker, can I transfer NL's offer to drive me to the Stratchcona rodeo to driving my drunken a$$ home from a bar a month later??? J/K NL, we can tuck money into our bras for cab fare.
| |
|
| |
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:19:33 PM | Honey, if you make it down for the wrecker, are you sure we're gonna still have bras by the end of the night??
We might be thumbin' a ride home at the end of the night!
I have a feeling you might be a very bad influence on me!
Oops Alluria, gettin' carried away here... I've never been to a wrecker myself, but I hear legends are made at these wreckers?? Guess we'll both be finding out firsthand soon?
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:27:14 PM | Into our thongs? Pretty sure we'll still have those! Not much room to tuck money there tho, and a credit card's gonna hurt!
I haven't gotten into trouble in soooo long. Yeah, I'm definately in! I can switch my shift if I have to and I'll guilt someone into taking the monsters! And I'm gonna get you into trouble with me!
Yeah, I've never been to one either (ok, maybe I have but it wasn't called that - mine was country boys 'n' girls gettin' down on the farm). Alluria, check the Alberta events section and check out the thread for the wrecker Papabear had last month. Maybe that'll help.
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:27:58 PM |
'redneck wrecker'?? esssssplain?
It's just a big ole Alberta party!
Apparently if you are from Alberta you are a Redneck, and a wrecker is just a party!
Well that's my definition anyway.
I hate "redneck" almost as much as "cowtown".
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:43:43 PM | You're gonna get me into trouble with you huh?
I get into enough trouble on my own thankyouverymuch!
Who needs a credit card..... apparently, we're gonna be braless, and wearing thongs... I'm thinkin' we're gonna have no problems finding a ride home....

As long as you promise to look after me... you know how my luck has been lately....
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:44:31 PM | Oh make no mistake about it...
Redneck is an Albertan adaptation from SASKATCHEWAN...GO RIDERS!!! LOL
Calgary is Saskatchewan's biggest city don't you know? Well, for now anyways...
Castaline is right about one thing..."cowtown", Calgary is not, sorry to say in my opinion
All the same, WELCOME TO ALBERTA!!!!
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:49:05 PM | RFLMFAO!!
Okay. I promise.
Who's gonna look after me?
We have managed to hijack this thread fairly well. I think Alluria got what she needed out of it, and was finished with it's original purpose though. Alluria? Want your thread back?
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:53:55 PM | yeah, I think we need to give Alluria her thread back cuz at the rate we're going, you're draggin' me straight to hell girl.
And that's saying a lot, cuz I'm as pure as the driven snow...
Told ya you're a bad influence.
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 9:54:07 PM | I want my Redneck Wrecker Party! teehee
I'm OK with this de-railing. I've got a place to live, I've got a contract, I've got a Big Adventure ahead of me!
Now I just have to figure out if I should just SELL all my stuff and start fresh in Calgary...or will I take it all with me? I dunno. Decisions Decisions Decisions.
|
| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 10:00:46 PM | Alluria, I am pretty sure that now that you have asked so 'prettily' you will get your Wrecker.
NL, I am a pretty big music fan, and I am quite sure the quote you are looking for is
pure as the driven slush
All party planners to Kanes on Sunday!

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 10:06:25 PM | My mom talked me into giving my things away when I got divorced/sold my house/moved in with family for a while. I was planning to store it until I bought another house. Getting rid of it was a great decision for me. We moved our bedrooms with us. I packed and stored my kitchen in family basements. I gave my dining suite to my sister (where we lived). The living room, basement, and garage was all disposed of. I didn't have nice, expensive furniture that was worth paying storage on, and it turned out well, as I lived with my sister's family for a year as opposed to the four months I had hoped.
You need to look into moving costs and determine whether it will be less expensive to replace or move your things. It also will depend on your fiscal position. Decide how fussy you are. You can purchase basic furnishings fairly cheap and replace as you are able if that is acceptable and/or financially necessary.
You will probably need to rent a truck one way for personal items anyway. Price it out and decide what will fit and whether you can talk your friends in Calgary (old and new POF ones) into helping you move large pieces in if you drive them yourself.
Do you have a dear friend in your city that would drive with you so you can travel with a rental truck and your car? Would it be cheaper to pay kms to return the truck or to rent it one way and fly back for your car? Is the company paying for your move? If so, hire a mover, move everything, and don't worry about it!

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 10:09:56 PM | Don't recognize it castaline, but dammit, I PREFER 'pure as the driven snow'
Just cuz slush is well, yucky and dirty.
And now that I've got all the embedded gravel out of my body, I'm pretty damned near to being pure now!
So.... don't burst my pretend bubble, ok?
hey, everyone's gotta have dreams right?

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 10:11:45 PM | See? I returned to the OT.
Castaline, You've met NL? I doubt you've offended. And no, I don't recognize the quote, although I've heard it many times.
NL, I'm guessin' you're hopin' I'll come to town and get you into trouble and it is my pleasure to be of assistance.

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 10:21:16 PM | Very good keeping on topic Tessav, Me back off topic
"Shes so cold, as pure as the driven slush. And thats not jewelry shes talkin 'bout, It really dont cost that much."
ZZ Top; Pearl Necklace
Which really has nothing to do with this thread or any of the sidelines. Except anytime someone says pure as the driven snow it ALWAYS reminds me of "pure as the driven slush"
Quasi on-topic. Doing major renovations in my house right now, and it has been a wonderful opportunity to purge. Only bring with you what you truly love, or what you can't afford to replace. "

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/24/2008 11:51:34 PM | Ladies, she has no car!! Suggest personal stuff for sure, some of the keepsakes, other than that, take the oppourtunity to purge your belongings. I have travelled cross country in several moves, bare essentials were perfect.
Cab fare on the night of the wrecker will have to have a safer place than the bra or the thongs!! Drinks always seem to be more important when you are having fun!!
Remember to keep your cell phone handy tho, the "vibe" setting will do wonders if you end up not liking the male attendees attitudes (but papbear and I will do our best to impress)!!

| Moving to Calgary...any advice? Posted: 7/25/2008 1:19:04 PM | Actually I will have a car as that is part of the deal for me going :) But I don't have it until end of next week. And I don't know WHAT sort of car it will be. I'm hoping for a 4 door, under 150K kms, no accident, mid 90's Japanese car. The budget for the car is only $4500.00 so yeah...I don't have a lot of $$ to play with to get my 'dream' car.
I think it might just have to be bare essentials...though I have a lamp I LOVE (who KNEW I would get to say "I Love Lamp!" and have it be appropriate!!!) and I have my massage table, microwave, vac. cleaner...I don't really want to give those up.
ESPECIALLY my massage table!
I need to do a bit more figuring out. This weekend is a big PUUUURRGGGEEE though.
Weeee!! | |
