Does the way people pose in photos reveal their mentality?

"I've observed that women who post pictures of them taking their own picture in a mirror with a flash camera tend to be more introverted and odd in real life."

I have seen a lot of guys do this, but I assumed they had no friends to take the pic.

don't you think you might be reading too much into photos online? maybe the person just doesn't HAVE alot of them, or not so comfortable having their picture taken. you must have met ALOT of women in order for you to have applied critical thinking to this synopis. who was your control group? what parameters were placed before stats gathered? how can you know if someone's "potential trouble" unless you actually get to know them? what do your pics look like? do you think it's constructive to over-analyze such things when we all (hopefully) know that people can't be known until you actually get to know them? i couldn't help but notice that you said "the people i tend to pick and TRY to go out with...." what does that mean? what data do you base this opinion on, please?

I always thought that when a person tilts their head it means:
hey were swimming and they got water in their ear.....

^^^^^^ I thought the same thing lol. I haven't read any of the responses,
In a different context, yes profiles pictures are telling somewhat of a persons character or a "perceived" character. Some women often say they will not date a man without his shirt on or standing by his car! Some men say they won't message a woman with her breasts hanging out in every photo. (But one photo is ok lol)
During several courses I have taken you are given several case profiles, people of high interest to a crime, often many photos or whole albums are at your disposal, as they say "a picture speaks a thousand words" and some speak volumes. But to the person without this knowledge a simple head tilt or if the person is sitting in every photo will have no correlation to someones mentality. (if you meant it to mean intelligence, than,no) but every Forensic Scientist and Freudians have their own take on this.JMO

Take little Johnny for example, he is short but is always standing in the back in any group photos.

Johnny has been working at a factory for 20yrs and has never been in the yearly group photo, even though it is insisted upon.

Pictures do not reflect who you are, they are a form of acting. I hate the camera and the majority of mine are taking the mick. Many many people do not look like their photos, one of my dates turmed out to be a cross dresser.....he was not wearing his pvc skirt and thigh boots in HIS pic!!!!

My picture reveals that I have a deep seated fear of being blinded by a June bug at 70 MPH. If I was brave or cavalier and an outlaw to boot, I would not wear sunglasses while riding a motorcycle.

Amen, brother. Amen. When I used to ride in Florida, there were these giant Dragonflies that feel like a bullet even through a leather jacket. They had helmet laws back then, and I quickly learned why helmets came with a face visor, after one of them took out a sunglass lense.

None of my pictures have any hidden meaning that I know about. Let's analyze them:

Picture of me and the dog, and picture of me sitting on ATV with cat on my shoulder: I like animals, and apparently they like me.

Picture of me sitting on ATV and another one sitting on my friend's Terramite (a small end-loader): I like machinery.

Picture of me looking over sunglasses: Will you stop taking my picture already?

Picture of me surrounded by Palm trees (Myrtle Beach): Damn it's hot!

Nope, no subliminal messages here.

i think making most of your decisions about someone from only a picture is wrong; most of us dont take very good pictures so we use the best ones we have. i am a large lady and i take pictures in all angles and positions as best as i can get. my mom takes most of mine and she usually cuts off my head lol...the best picture of me right now is with my head tilted and it was done that way cause i was acting silly for the camera and for some "odd" and very "shallow" reason; it turned out to be the best one of me and i get more replys with it..............i dont care who took your picture or how it was taken even in front of the mirror; i just want a good close up of your face and eyes so i can see who i am talking to........sunglasses are fine if there are more pictures with out them and smile folks like you enjoy life !

I haven't noticed any patterns with photo posing and correlating personality traits...

I know when I've had professional photos taken, they do tend to turn you at what seems like odd angles to get the best image. Maybe some just try and apply that technique on their own.

Profiles are just a mere glimpse into someone's persona.

Forums are more revealing, in my opinion.

Okay, okay..... I admit it!!!
I was hiding my eyes from the sun!!!
And the smile...... well I never smile (ha!) and that is a sure give away that I was up to something, did something wrong or was about to. Just wish I was intellegent enough to remember what it was at the time.

This might sound very odd, but I've noticed that women who turn their head at an angle in photos, tilting it one way or another, are more often more shallow in real life.

Shallow? Seems like you'd have something in common wif them then. Your theory didn't really spring from anything of depth. Seems like something a shallow person would come up with.

There's pics of me as a child smiling. I was sad and angry when they were taken. I hate having my pic taken and squeaky toys the guy at K-Mart used were scary. I just gave a fake smile to get it over with.

What of your own "Model" pose in front of the poster? Or the photo shopped photo that you added yourself to? You have to be kidding me! You have a close resemblance to Grandpa on the Munsters but you dont see others yanking your chain about it. I think your perception is way off the mark! You are simply judging people by a PHOTO ..... I would say you are spelling out your own shallowness dont you think? When your immediately placing people into categories without ever having read the book! Remember ..... If you dislike something about a person, you dislike something in him that is a part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us.

I have had messages from women who attached a picture of them scowling ferociously. Just what every man is looking for: A mean, unhappy woman to fill your life with joy.

Omg I am turned to the side with my head tilted and I am smiling! That's got to mean all sorts of terrible things about my personality. Buddy you have wayyyyy to much time on your hands.

People pose and smile and do all sorts of things in picture for the simple fact that it is flattering . It makes for a better picture. No one , and I mean no one would respond to a picture of someone who had just rolled out of bed after a 24 hour puking flu, with their hair matted , greasy , pale face and black shadows under the eyes.

Omg! I just thought of something else. I wear makeup! **GASP** I am a terrible terrible person.

How about women who have a couple of photos posing in bikini shots, very attractive women.....posing as if in a Venus Swimwear Magazine. Chances are they'll only date an "Adonis" since they think they're Aphorodites......right?

Chances are, they are probably doing it just for the attention....I keep seeing one woman in my area on here that actually is always CONSTANTLY rotating in an out professionally made modeling photos of herself (well, not professionally made....but taken with a good high rez camera)....rotating them out every week or so.

Seems they are more into THEMSELVES than the actually men contacting them. lol.

Of course, they are going to get slammed with emails as well.

One thing that you did not mention, which is a huge red-flag about less-than-desirable qualities, is someone (male or female) posing with a beer in their hand...lol.

Actually, the women are notorious for holding a wine glass in their profile photos. ;-)

MEN do the beers. lol

I tend to think that those who take their own pic in the mirror or something probably have no friends to even take their pic.

Sunglasses - my favourites, although if you are interested there are other clearer pics contained in the profile.

Solarpanel Actually it looks like you are on the toilet and have been there for some time lol, must be the red cheeks. Gee I just thought of how that could be taken out of context! Have a nice day.

I wonder how many people were in the 'study' group? Um, I think you have to have more than one in each category to have a valid study....

As if there isn't enough over analyzing/picking apart, critiquing going on around here. Now there's analyzing head looking up or down, tilting heads, sunglasses etc....sheesh!

Well, I guess the only solution would be, is for all of us to go down to our local police department and have mugshots taken then we would all be the same in the pic's department. And hey, they even do left side of face, right side of face AND full body shot. Howzzat? Pffftt!

Too much overanalyzing...
I smile a lot in all my pictures because I smile a lot in general.
As for model-like poses... I think I just have one. what can I say? I love Top Model... And it's more to be silly than actually being a model pose.

LD, you seemed to have gored a bunch of hypersensitive oxes with your question. Now if we associate those personalities with their pictures maybe we can find new insights into individuals. I also loved the nitpicking comments about "mentality" vs "personality", which leads to more analyis of photos correlating to personality. To me its obvious that photos correlate to body language which is another well documented behavioral "science" that exists. The problem is to have enough input information to draw an accurate conclusion. The bottom line is that such analysis is subjective, requires a lot of speculation as well as experience, and as with all hypotheses you have to remain flexible to change your conclusions when new information becomes available. In direct answer to the question,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes people reveal important clues about themselves via the photos they select to represent them. Studying those clues can be helpful because it can alert us to certain traits that are incompatible with what seek in a partner. So, smile and make the world wonder what you are up to..............
