| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 9/13/2008 8:38:11 AM | | the current rumour is that Affliction is teaming with golden boy to co-promote mma and boxing on the same events. This, in my opinion is one of the best and most creative ways to give Dana and company a run for their money. | |

| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 9/26/2008 3:02:58 AM | Affliction won't touch the UFC. High fighter pay and low PPV buys will be their demise.
"Banned" did way less buys than expected, and had ridiculously high payouts for the fighters. Now I'm all for higher pay, but paying Tim Sylvia almost a mil to get Zulu'd is not a good idea.
In order to truly compete with the UFC, Affliction is gonna need to put on more than 2 cards a year, and at this rate they simply can;t afford it without throwing money away.

Boxing takes a lot longer, and the fans are generally different. Most boxing promoters dislike MMA, many fans think MMA is too violent, yet still approve of boxing...
Affliction in general will most likely be the WWE's ROH/TNA of now. They'll do a bit of business, get some of the disgruntled, past their marketability, etc fighters.
Dana and the Fertitas might have their head up as their asses as someone said, but right now, they still have the best production, tv/PPV deals and fighters generally. With Elite down, UFC will only be stronger having less competition some new matchups that they can sign fighters for, and bring back a couple of people that went to Elite.

| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 10/29/2008 9:31:06 PM | I'm bored with the UFC. Same fighters over and over. MMA is world-wide and there's got to be a lot of talent out there that isn't getting the limelight they deserve.
I certainly hope Affliction takes off. Hopefully others will too and provide more variety.

Affliction has really good fighters Fedor, Barnett, Arlofski, Sobral, and others. Providing they keep finding good talent, they should be around for awhile

I'd love to see Strikeforce pick up some of them.

Werdum needs an opponant soon.
Overeem's hand will be healthy soon enough.
And I wouldn't mind him beating down Bret Rogers either.

| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 7/24/2009 4:36:16 PM | Josh Barnett = probably the most hated fighter in MMA right now. What a jackass! I think the only option for Affliction is to merge with StrikeForce. Combined, they may have enough depth int he roster to stand these kinds of bush-league situations. Otherwise, it's off to the UFC. Dana may be a d1ck, but you don't see them cancelling events.
EDIT -
Just saw Dwayne's post. ^
I wonder what this means to StrikeForce?
|
| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 7/24/2009 6:08:11 PM | It won't hurt them.
They didn't merge.
If Fedor does come to the UFC....I'd love to see him fight in Strikeforce once beforehand to get use to the cage.
Werdum or Overeem would be great.

| Will Affliction give UFC a run for their money? Posted: 8/4/2009 12:06:40 AM | you will NEVER see Fedor in the UFC...
his management (rumored russian mafia) has a clause in his "contract" that they become "co-promoters" in the company...
essentially the UFC would become 1/2 owned by Fedor's management.
after they rejected the UFC's last offer to have Fedor fight in the UFC;
[QUOTE]The widely reported -and disputed - offer said to have been made to Emelianenko includes a five-fight $30 million deal, an instant title shot at UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, the opportunity to display logos of his manager's competing MMA promotion, M-1 Global, on the fighter and in the Octagon, a cut of pay-per-view earnings, and the freedom to compete in Sambo martial arts tournaments outside the UFC. [End quote]
they turned that down.. .insisting on co-promotion.
Fedor will NEVER fight in the UFC.
