Too bad Mark Foley isn't still in office, they could have teamed up to protect kids too, not like the republicans would let a pedophile be in charge of protecting children. . .

Ohhhhhhhh

Where does the madness end?

I don't believe this is actually an *attempt* to make these gents look bad when they're already doing such a superlative job of it already.
Frankly, it's worth repeating that a whole bunch of us don't care if these guys like to do it with green blow up dolls in a taxi on a ferry.....well, you get my drift. That's their private sexual preferences and only they can determine what's right and wrong for them. The laws governing sexuality are whacked; what in the hell were undercover cops doing in an airport bathroom in the first place? I'm not sure the sitation with Craig would have gone as far as it did if they had simply caught any ole average guy soliciting sex.
It's a shame both gents couldn't have learned from these experiences however and changed their position on continuing to judge the private sexual preferences of others. Instead we have this classic example of reaction formation and that's deeply saddening.

These two men have their own individual beliefs and principles, which they are entitled to just as you and I are. It is a little odd that they are supporting legislation that would prohibit gays from marrying, when they appear to be engaging in somewhat risky sexual behavior

I do believe that's the whole point of the thread.

regardless though, they apparently believe marriage should remain a traditional matter between a man and a woman. They are entitled to this belief, even if it seems illogical based upon their actions.

And I am entitled to believe that they are full of crap.

That is entirely different. Rev. Wright is a racist, bigoted minister who has spiritually advised and mentored Barack Obama for twenty years of his personal life, impacting his perception in countless unknown ways that may or may not be appropriate for one who will become the president of the free world. The relationship between these two men had nothing whatsoever to do with someone's private, personal sexual behavior and thus it is quite reasonable to scrutinize it.

Careful, that looks a little generalizing.

I have no idea how you correlate this example to what I said regarding demeaning someone's character based upon their personal sex life and preferences.

It's from this:

I have contempt for anyone, Democrat or Republican, who is so desperate to make their party and their candidate look good that they'll tear down and make a character issue out of the sex lives of the candidates

I felt and still feel that the Wright controversy was blown entirely out of proportion and it seemed to me to be a 'desperate attempt' at smearing the candidate's name. That's how I made the correlation.

Well, of course not. I, on the other hand, see it as being akin to sniping about the length of Cindy McCain's skirt
If you're referring to my post on that, it was a joke.....but I do feel that women over 60 should not wear skirts above the knees unless they are Tina Turner or Sophia Loren.

Of course, this is just my own personal opinion and we all have a valid one here at POF, don't we?

That's the rumor....but sometimes you'd never know it. lol

Only if Cindy McCain then tried to put modesty legislation on the books, stating exactly how a shirt should be tailored.

, or huffing and puffing about John McCain's former marriage and his very personal, private divorce.

Only if John McCain is running on a morality based platform.

They are entitled to this belief, even if it seems illogical based upon their actions. As has also already been stated, they won't be able to pass such legislation on their own and I doubt they came up with it on their own either. They were backed by their colleagues and the people that support them.

When somebody has an illogical belief, especially a belief is actively harmful and hypocritical, there is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out the illogical, harmful and in this case outright pandering nature of the legislation.

Huh how amusing, it's been made relatively apparent by a few posters within this thread that they don't think the two adulterers in this thread should be judged for their own actions. Yet somehow Obama should be judged by a few statements made by a man he has repudiated.

Obama repudiated Wright after twenty long years of close, intimate friendship and an ongoing decision to worship at the man's church. That's quite different and we're also talking about Obama applying for the position of running this country and making decisions for all Americans. He could be the commander in chief for this nation and could be placed in that office to represent every American in this nation. I definitely think that job position warrants intense scrutiny of the candidate applying for the job, don't you?

Regardless of this, I still don't think his private marriage, sex life, and sexual preferences are our business and shouldn't be fodder for the political tabloid culture that we've become. There are simply some areas that ought to be off limits. We've no right to invade every aspect of someone's life. Stay out of these people's bedrooms. It's just uncouth to do otherwise.

Again, who care about the preacher. The one on the right calling for armaggeddon are far scarier and have fewer morals. Dubya doesn't go to church at all, but the neocons think he is holy.

The point isn't their twisted sexual preferences, it is the hypocracy that one is Gay, Craig, One is a whoremonger, Vitter (Switzer fits too) and the third is a pedophile, Foley. The first two, despite the fact that they were adulturers Gay and Prostitute, created legislation to tell everyone else what a true marriage is. The third, Foley, was left in charge of kids, despite being known as a predator. Not only that, they warned the Rs, but not the Ds. Not warning kids because they were sponsored by a democrat. How twisted have they become?

We're going off topic here, but the reality is that what Wright did while reprehensible, was not illegal, no more than Pastor Hagie (who McCain actively sought) calling Catholics the whore of babalon and implying that hitler was a tool for god.

So you're attempting to judge Obama for what other people say, and somehow avoid judging people for what they have done themselves.

1. This is exibiting an interesting double standard. Sex life and marriage is a private business, but these people should have the right to make constitutional amendments to... invade peoples marriage and sex life.

2. If these guys had simply stayed in their bedrooms, they wouldn't be the laughing stock they are now.

A standard is being set, or attempting to be set. It can't pass without a vote though, correct? I think some standards must be set or even the most sacred of traditions will be mauled and twisted into something that is virtually unrecognizable. As I've stated in former posts, I don't really care who sets the standards, whether it be Democrat or Republican, but somebody needs to and I'm grateful that someone is attempting to.

Let's just turn this one on it's flip side for a moment. Craig repudiated homosexuals pretty much all through his career after god knows how long he was himself a closet homosexual. He applied and received a job making the laws of this country. I think that job warrants intense scrutiny as well, because obviously the man is a lawbreaker though he has the power to institute laws. Yes it needs to go to a vote. No it probably won't pass. But again, the irony is overwhelming.

A standard is being set, or attempting to be set.

And it's attempting to be set by people who think themselves above the laws that they are trying to pass.

Are you saying that if Obama broke a law, or McCain broke a law (remember these men are ok to put under the microscope) that was in the realm of a morality law that you would turn your head? Are you kidding? And there already was the man who came forward and said he snorted coke with Obama in the limo and had gay sex with him.....that was tabloid fodder before it fizzled out because the guy turned out to be a liar. And do I even need to invoke Monica?

This can go on and on, but allow me one basic question. Can any of you tell us, when if ever,a republican, convicted of a sex crime, has ever been re elected, as those on the democrat side have?

One person's 'immorality' is another person's GREAT party. These guys want to live it up at Kinkfest '08 but still have the gonads to pander to the Christian right. I mean.....it's hysterical.

Republicans are in trouble with this morality play right now and maybe the scrutiny over these 2 is a smoke screen to hide the fact there have been at least 92 other republicans that have been caught committing illegal sex acts since bush has taken office.

2008
Bruce Barclay, former Cumberland County commissioner, videotaped hundreds of sexual encounters — many with male escorts — using cameras hidden throughout his Monroe Township home.[1]
Matthew Joseph Elliott, former aide to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child.[2]

Vito Fossella, the only Republican member of Congress from New York City, admitted to police to having a child out-of-wedlock when stopped for drunk driving.[3]

McKee, Republican delegate from Western Maryland, announced his resignation after authorities seized two computers, videotapes and printed materials from his Hagerstown home in a child pornography investigation. McKee also resigned his position as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County.[4]

Daniel Dean Thompson, 31, a Utah retailer of "family-friendly" tapes and DVDs (Hollywood films with the "dirty parts" cut out of them), arrested and booked into the Utah County jail on charges of sexual abuse and unlawful sexual activity with a 14-year-old.[5]

Derek Walker, former Eagle Scout and candidate seeking the GOP nomination in a race for north-central Pennsylvania district, was charged with felony burglary and criminal trespass stemming from an encounter last year with an ex-girlfriend, during which he allegedly broke into her home and used his cell phone to videotape her engaged in an intimate moment with another man.[6]
2007

This can go on and on, but allow me one basic question. Can any of you tell us, when if ever,a republican, convicted of a sex crime, has ever been re elected, as those on the democrat side have?

How many of the convicted democrats that went up for re-election ran on a platform of getting tough on their own behavior?

I don't think I've ever in my lifetime seen a perfect person who is completely ethical and Christ-like in every way shape and form. I don't think you'll find such an individual on either side of the aisle. If you're aware of such a person, please point him or her out and maybe we can get this paragon of virtue elected into office. Unfortunately, I suspect there is no such person, thus we're going to be stuck with the infallible creatures that simply do the best they can. That's good enough for me since the alternative is what we have now, which sucks bigtime, frankly.

Again, I don't care who you get to set a standard of morality as long as there is a standard. The "anything goes," hedonistic, selfish, self centered "me" culture of "if it feels good do it" doesn't work for those of us who are attempting to raise responsible, ethical children in a culture that has returned to the seventies of free love, in a world of rampant STD'S and people with absolutely no regard for the feelings of others. I don't even want to get started onto the morality soapbox in this thread. I'll just say that what we have now is unacceptable to me.

Look.. it's simple. It's dumb for any politician, be it Rep or Dem who has been involved in unsavory behavior to initiate a morality based bill. I mean.. really. Doesn't it make sense that they would know they'd get trounced for it? And, if they didn't know it, they should have.

Sometimes I am truly amazed at what politicians think they can get away with. Maybe one day I will cease to be surprised/amazed.

Just staying out of jail (legitimately) would be nice for all members of congress.

So, you're OK with child molesting perverts because they are not christ like? That might be a good argument from a minister trying to save their soul but not for a Judge and jury that puts them in jail.

We have a standard of moral reasoning. You might have heard of it, it's called the Constitution of the United States. Ever since it's been ratified, legislatures and prosecutors Judges and cops have been bound to it's ethical precepts. Maybe you could read it to your kids and point out how ethical responsible people have given their lives for it and it's helped create laws against immoral acts.

[How many of the convicted democrats that went up for re-election ran on a platform of getting tough on their own behavior? ]

How many democrats regret their behavior enough to do so?
These Republicans will not be re elected. If other Republicans or Democrats win the seats it will be because of their behavior in spite of their efforts. I don't believe the republicans will even run them.

[So, you're OK with child molesting perverts because they are not christ like? That might be a good argument from a minister trying to save their soul but not for a Judge and jury that puts them in jail.]

This is absolutely absurd. The poster you are answering never said that. No one in their right mind would tolerate a child molester. Not even the inmates in a prison system. That is why sexual predators are locked in solitary to protect their lives. The inmates would kill them. But immoraltiy is not limited to child molestors. There are rapists, sodomists, s&m perverts and all kinds of weirdos out there. That is why aids and stds are so wide spread. I believe the constitution would and should protect the sanctity of marriage as being between a man and a woman. What people do in privacy as long as they are consenting adults is their business. They will have to deal with God on those issues, not me. But I would damn well appreciate it if they would not besmirch the sanctity of marriage with their perversions. Tolerance has its limits.

Corruption happens on both sides of the aisle, to be certain, however, it is disproportionate to the right. JA is a prime example of that fact. Look at his list~

Dubya doesn't go to church at all, but the neocons think he is holy.

You know, when you continue to post out and out lies after I posted the reference to the Rector of the Church that the Bushes attend, who is THERE every Sunday and who said they attend there a couple times a month, then one wonders just what percentage of ALL your postings are lies, since you obviously have absolutely no qualms about it.

Did you know...and this is just a fun fact....that the preacher that married Jenna recently is a former pastor of Barack Hussein Obama? Right there on the Crawford Ranch...imagine it. Eeek! Now what? Do we hate him (Dubya)? Do we still love him? Whatever will we do?

I never lie.

I could care less if he attends, it is the hypocracy of it all. I don't attend either and I don't care what anyone's faith is. But Dubya does NOT attend church!
