I could never lie..which I think is a problem..I tell stupid things like oh your doesn't look good and guess what eventually i get dumped..

Posted: 7/10/2008 8:27:46 AM | It totally depends on the type of lie. And you definition of lie. My definition leaves me some wiggle room: a lie is an untruth told in order to deceive. So if I tell the truth in order to deceive, it's not a lie!
I wonder if women are just better at rationalizing? I wonder if men are just ruder (all those "honest to a fault" guys I see advertised on PoF)? I wonder if women more clearly define lies, so call anything a lie, while men have a different standard so don't think they are telling a lie when a woman would say they are?
When it comes down to it, I believe all people lie, it is human nature--children lie a great deal of the time, and they don't LEARN that, it's basic punishment/pain avoidance, and it's a good strategy for getting along in a social community. | |

That said, there are terrific con artists of both sexes. I guess it comes with practice. I also read somewhere that if you really believe the lie, then you won't give off any signals that give away that you are lying, so it helps to be delusional as well. | |

I have lied a few times and when I do I turn red in the face.... so I am a horrible liar and gave it up.  | |

Simple. When you lie about something big it will get resolved eventually. The small lies are the ones that you need to maintain and eventually cultivate. If you're gonna put all that work into a series of small lies you might as well just fess up. | |

Depends on the person. Some women and men know how to lie without blinking an eye.
I agree with you totally, coca2. I work in a County office, where both male and female politicians lie with the greatest of skill. Lying well is a learned behavior, with gender providing very little influence. | |

a good liar would have you believing they were telling you the truth. | |

Men lie, then try to cover it up. Lie... think later.
Women lie, but think it through before the lie. Think, then lie.
So more men get caught than women. | |

Posted: 7/10/2008 8:13:55 PM | I am a woman and from all the folks I have encountered I have to say WOMEN far outrank men in the ability to lie successfully,.. more often? don't know, but women are definitely better at it.
I am actually rather embarrassed at how well many of the women I have known over the years lie and cheat and have no conscience about it because in their minds they can "justify" their actions. I think most men lie to cover their butts when they know they are going to get dragged over the coals for something they didn't do. Women on the other hand lie to cover things they have done out of self preservation to keep the status quo or to achieve the greater goal. | |

At the end of the day, people lie for all kinds of reasons, but I believe these "reasons" are balanced between the sexes.
