Why does one person keep saying Man Utd are smaller than a number of other clubs because of past trophies? If people were so interested in what clubs had won in the past then teams like Preston, Blackpool, Accrington Stanley, Corintians (the English ones, not the Brazillian team) would be signing world class players all the time! Man Utd at this point in time are probably the best club team in world football, and are officially the best in Europe as well as the best in the biggest, richest league in the world. The only reasons to go from there are: lack of first team opportunities, falling out with the management, money, wanting to play for a team supported previously.

Ronaldo is a good player who would be a marketing and footballing asset to any team in the world, but he is not irreplaceable. Man Utd were a very good team before him and will be after him. If he wants to go, let him go, and get a shed-load of cash for him at the same time. He may win the Spanish league at Real, but he will not be as effective as he is in England simply because of the style of play. He won't win the Champions League with them and will in 4 or 5 years time say it was always his dream to play in Italy and to challenge himself against the most defensive teams in world football.

rev_guilliano i disagree with everything you said except for the part that Man U are the best team in the world right now..take Ronaldo away and they will be lucky to be in the top 3...unless Nani matures rapidly no player in the world can even come close to Ronaldo down the wing,Rooney and Tevez thank the Gods that more then half there goals are set up by Ronaldo..as for him not playing so well in spain..i think it will be easier in spain, more free flowing, smaller players (England tends to have alot of big ,tall, solid defenders)...

just thought i would fix that for you.... Quote from the Echo on the 28th of may. ;)

LIVERPOOL are on course to go into the forthcoming season as Europe's number one ranked team.

The Reds are currently third behind AC Milan and Chelsea in UEFA's official rankings thanks to their Champions League performances over the past four seasons, having accrued more ranking points, 104.288, than any other club in Europe.

Having won the competition in 2005, been runners up to AC Milan in 2007 and made it through to the semi-finals this year, another decent campaign in 2008/09 would see Rafa Benitez's side take the number one spot ahead of the Italians, who have not qualified for next season's Champions League, and currently managerless Chelsea.

Fellow Premier League side Arsenal are sixth in the current rankings with current Champions League holders Man United in seventh.

Other British teams on the list include Newcastle in 19th, Rangers in 20th, Middlesbrough in 27th, Spurs in 31st, Bolton in 41st, Everton in 44th and Celtic in 52nd.

Their recent form in the Champions League also means that they will go into the qualifiers for next season's competition as number one seeds and will thereby avoid the other seeded teams when the draw for the qualifying rounds is made in July.

As for the main subject, Ronaldo signed a contract. he doesn't like it take it through the courts.

In related news, Man Utd are expressing interest in Sporting Lisbon coach Paulo Bento as their new assistant manager. A previous team-mate and good friend of one Christiano Ronaldo...

I suppose if any of the top four teams were out of the title race before Xmas and sacrificed everything for the CL and nothing besides they'd fart and splutter their way to the odd semi-final and even cause an upset or two along the way. However, I'm assuming that you're not trying to pretend that Liverpool are the best team in Europe...they're barely the fourth best in England at present

I wouldn't mind if he was nearing the midway point of his contract or even was coming to the end of it. But he just signed one of the most lucrative deals going with United very recently and was reported to be "very happy" with his new contract. And then Real start making noise a couple of weeks later. It just makes a total mockery of the contract system if this continues to deteriorate the way it has done.

last I heard he is getting a paycheck while he isn't playing and is recovering from surgery right? that paycheck does come from man u. correct? no problem cashing that check but as soon as someone waves more money he want to dash off... I say sell the prick, they have berbatov it looks like, aguero in the works...

and I'll take the bet all day long that they will top liverpool in the table, and go further in the cl... uefa rankings or no.

Princess Fiona.... are you saying that winning the title of European Champions means you are not the best? Does this mean that if Liverpool have won more top flight points than Man Utd in all the time they have been there then they are CURRENTLY the best team in the top flight? Does this also mean Spain are not the best footballing country in Europe at this moment? Damn! How do we decide who the best is if leagues and competitions are not the way?

Anyway, here is the ranking, seems the echo had it wrong, but either way, backs up my point.

Has man utd in 6th as it happens.

Edit, as it happens i'm classed as a wool. Not a scouser. And incredibly loyal. ;)

Not being serious...I offered you a few beers since I know the let down when you wake up from that deep deep Summer reverie Pool fans fall into over the Summer lay off can be tough...

Illustrated best by the differing version of superiority complex that Man U fans have compared to Pool fans. A Man U fan has the typical one, we think we're better than everyone else...you guys think you might be AS good as everyone else...comes from years and years of failing to win the premiership I guess

I really thought a deal between United and Madrid was going happen to sell off Ronaldo, which I want to see this take place. However the meeting Ferguson had with Ronaldo in Portugal and Ferguson stating things went well, I'm beginning to believe Ronaldo is staying put. Damn it!!!!!

How are fans in England going to react to Ronaldo next year if he stays with Manchester Utd? Will they boo or cheer?

Yeah but Ronaldo himself is still quoted in the papers today as saying he still doesn't know where his future lies & only god does. He wants to go, that's apparent but only if United are willing to sell him which they clearly are not. Ronaldo has made some comments however in reference to commitment & performance which to me is quite curious now as well....is the intention that he will come back from injury & maybe be a few notches down on what he was last season in terms of motivation?? May be a scandalous thing to say but stranger things have happened with high quality sulks over the years.

I would have thought that every club other than United is rubbing its hands with glee over the whole saga......a similar thing pretty much cost Chelsea the chance of winning anything last season when Mourhino left so will it happen at Utd??? who knows..I don't believe Ronaldo holds the team together for United however good he is as an individual.

Cristiano Ronaldo has told a Portuguese newspaper, to be published on Thursday, he is staying with Manchester United.

The Portugal international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid since winning the Premier League and Champions League last season.
But Sir Alex Ferguson declared on Tuesday that the saga was "closed", and the winger - who is under contract at old Trafford until 2012 - has now followed suit.

In an exclusive interview to be published on Thursday, he tells Publico he will be staying at Old Trafford for at least the next 12 months, though he admits he still dreams of one day playing for Real Madrid.

Is this God's final decision? Can somebody please tell me?

Well this show's a good indication how valuable Ronaldo is for Manchester United. It would be hard to replace a guy like Ronaldo in my opinion. Not that I'm saying United can't win without him, but CR7 is certainly one of the key players on this team.

Ronaldo belongs at Real Madrid, he is the new Figo.

Man U are one of the richest clubs in the world but they are not the most Loved. Yes they have alot of fans in Asia and I bet most people who have never watched a footie match would claim Man U as their team but they are no Real Madrid.

The greatest players of all time have played for Real Madrid, playing Real is like a Bench Mark and Ronaldo at such a young age has reached it.

Again...not to say "I told you so"...but I did tell you that Ronaldo going to Real was not a foregone conclusion. I said repeatedly that Fergie and United would work hard behind the scenes to keep him and that there were a lot of twists and turns before we would see an outcome. I also said there was a good chance he'd stay at United. Quite a few of you got this one BADLY wrong...

Now it looks like Robihno wants out of Madrid...
