well, you can't actually find out the rate of the train, without knowing the distance between the man and the train, the length of the bridge, how long it would take to run one of the two distances, or any of the above, first. Which means that the answer to this question has absolutely nothing to do with actual math XD

So I'm stumped lol

My answer is, a genius wouldn't have been walking across the bridge in the first place.

Too cheap to buy a ticket, I guess...

A mixed packet of nuts contains 1 pound of walnuts and 2 pounds of Brazil nuts. It costs exactly $2. A packet containing 4 pounds of filberts and 1 pound of walnuts costs $3. And for only $1.50, you can buy a mixed packet of 3 pounds of almonds, 1 pound of walnuts, and 1 pound of filberts. How much should you pay for a mixture of 1 pound of each of the four kinds?

Four. It's the only number that describes the number of letters in its own name

1Walnut + 2Brazil = $2
4Filbert + 1Walnut = $3
3Alomond +1Walnut + 1Filbert = $1.50

Therefore
1Brazil / =$0.75
3Almond + 1Filbert > / =$0.75

Conclusion
Brazil Nuts - $1.00 / lbs.
Filberts - $0.75 / lbs.
Almonds - $0.25 / lbs
Walnuts - FREE
So a mixture containing one pound of each would be $2.00

For some reason it will not display my formulas in the forum?

It is impossible to work out the cost per pound of each of the different nuts. However, the cost of various combinations can be worked out. If you combine 1 packets of the first kind ($3) with packet of the second kind ($1.50) and all of the third packet ($1.50), you get 3 pounds of each for $6.

So you are correct a mixture of 1 pound of each, therefore, should cost you $2.

Actually I did figure out the price of each induvidual product.

1Walnut + 2Brazil = $2
4Filbert + 1Walnut = $3
3Alomond +1Walnut + 1Filbert = $1.50

Therefore:
1Brazil less or equal to $1.00
1Filberts less or equal to $0.75
1Almonds less or equal to $0.50
1Walnuts less or equl to $1.50
3Almonds + $1.50 = 3Filbert
1Almonds + $0.50 = 1Filbert
1Almonds less or equal to $0.25
2Brazil + $1.00 = 4Filbert
1Brazil + $0.50 = 2Filbert
1Walnut + 1Filbert greater or equal to $0.75
3Almond + 1Filbert greater or equal to $0.75

Conclusion:
Brazil Nuts - $1.00 / lbs.
Filberts - $0.75 / lbs.
Almonds - $0.25 / lbs
Walnuts - FREE
So a mixture containing one pound of each would be $2.00

In a town is a secret club. This one man decides he would really like to sneak into the club. He knew to get in one needed to know a password to get past the doorman. He decides that one night he will hide in the bushes by the door of the club, and listen for the password as members arrive. Soon enough a member arrivered, he walked up to the door and rang the bell. A slot in the door opened, and the doorman shouted "12", which the member answered "6", and the doorman let him in. A bit later, another member arrived, again he rang the bell, but this time the doorman shouted "6", and the member answered "3", and he as well was let in. At this point our hero in the bush felt he knew the code and would give it a try. He rang the bell like the members before him. This time the doorman shouted "10", to which the man answered "5", and the doorman did not let him in.
What number should he have said, to get let into the club?

Scientists have proven that cats have more hair on one side then their other side. Some people believe that this is because when cats lay on their side they need insulation from the cold on the floor or ground. Which side of a cat has more hair?

There is a deli in a small town. Every weekday they offer a different discount on their 3 most popular items. On Mondays they offer 25% off the price of black forest ham, on Tuesdays roast beef is 10% off and sliced turkey is 15% off, on Wendesdays black forest ham is 15% off and roast beef is 10% off, on Thursdays black forest ham is 10% off and sliced turkey is 15% off, and finaly on Fridays black forest ham is 10% off, roast beef is 5% off and sliced turkey is 10% off.
Jane is having a family reunion this weekend. She will be throwing a picnic that will need several sandwiches. She will need 8 kg of black forest ham, 4 kg of roast beef, and 7 kg of sliced turkey.
If the regular prices at the deli are 0.99 /100g for black forest ham, $1.59 /100g for roast beef, and $1.29 /100g for sliced turkey. What day should Jane do her shopping to save the most amount of money, and how much will she save?

P.S. For those who are not familiar with the metric system. 1 kg = 1000g. Therefore if an item costs $0.99 / 100g it would be $9.90 / kg.

The answer to the train riddle is indeed 40 miles per hour. However, I have an issue with the puzzle...

True, he may be a genius, but how in the world does he know how fast the train is travelling? He would have to know how fast it was going before making his calculations, and he didn't even hear it... he just heard it!

Preposterous!
