A hiking buddy of mine often repeats a saying when someone falls in a puddle or slips on some leaves, etc. "God made dirt and Dirt don't hurt" Off course we're the same crew that quite often brushes off our sandwhich when it falls between our fingers at the campsite too.
I think far tooooo many parents are uptight about their kids playing in the dirt, sand, rocks, moss, and all those other interesting places. Yes, some kids are bit soft nowadays. Ewwwww bugs, ewwww germs, ewwww the outdoors.
A tip of the hat to those "down to earth " parents. More often than not, it all washes off.

| Rainy Days Posted: 7/27/2008 6:19:10 AM | hey Red Rum, good to see someone who has seem the past of this place :) not sure i like it yet.
Something we used to do as kids, not sure if my parents were on tight budgets :) or if it was a good thing but for "family building" every Wednesday night we would come home from school, have afternoon tea, clean up, do our homeworks and then the TV, radio or anything electronic for that matter was not permitted on Wednesday nights, we were only allowed to play indoor board games, cards, checkers, chess, read to each other, make up stories someone would start it, say a paragraph, then the next family member had to say the next paragraph etc etc it was a great adventure :)

| Rainy Days Posted: 7/27/2008 6:23:50 AM | | when its sunny outside, we have the option to take the kids out if they're becoming too crazy...when its raining, we take them out somewhere so they can get it oput with pother kids, and we get to keep our sanity. | |

| Rainy Days Posted: 7/27/2008 6:25:37 AM | I wonder if it would be worth a look (feedback welcomed) I have access to website domains and FREE hosting etc and would be interested in creating a website specifically for single parents kiddie events.
Not just for meet ups, more for the purpose of events and things which are happening, on many occassions, i have found myself hunting for things to do with the kids, not just rainy days but the weekends i have them.
maybe a free site for everyone to post things they know of in their communities or states etc (AU and worldwide) and then people can search by date, state, country etc etc and it will show all known events which have been entered into it.
any ideas? | |

| Rainy Days Posted: 7/27/2008 9:04:35 AM | Hi stevenh, sounds like a great idea to me. I tried that on this site but the thread was removed. Someone quoted the rules stating only POF events could be posted on here. I have loads of ideas here in Vancouver Canada and wouldn't mind helping you put up information for activities and great venues for kids! I would love to be involved. Keep me posted and good luck
P.S. I used to live in Caboolture when I was about 5 years old , then we moved to Boondall. I can't send you a message because of the restrictions on your mail settings

| Rainy Days Posted: 7/28/2008 1:39:52 AM | hey RedRum, to put the site together wouldn't take long (web coding/design background) but i think having a free site for parents to utilise would be a handy tool to have. There are alot of sites around but having a universal one which combines them all together and more would be a good idea.
I just tried to message you but it said I couldn't because you weren't accepting message from someone like me, hmmmm, am i that dodgy! :)
