BVI: thanks for letting me sing on Margaritville..I love Buffet.. Singing Journeys song was my first time kareoke ever... how badly did I mess it up?  
Arura- you are a great friend- kept me laughing as always..
VS: are you returning to Callahan's? The live music/ outdoors was really a good combination.. glad to see u last night.. i know you will tell me how bad my singing was!

Posted: 7/30/2008 9:37:59 AM | Can't believe this! 98 people minimum were expected to show given the RSVPs. According to what I found out, only 16 women showed (give or take). Why did only 1/4 approximately of the people honor their reservation? I busted my butt to get down there. The idea was nice but why the heck was there such a poor turnout? Any ideas?    | |

Posted: 7/30/2008 11:47:05 AM | All I can say it's summer time... Everyone like's to do different thing's... I notice when summer is over EVERYONE well 90 percent of the people who do sign up ACTUALLY will show up.... In less it's a holiday or something like that....
VG Try fine another bar on a Thursday night to sing here in Long Island.... Not sure why it make's a difference but alot like to go out on Thursday night's more then Tuesday's.... I know a cool bar but it's an icky smokie bar. YUCK lol | |

Posted: 7/30/2008 12:50:10 PM | Callahans in East Meadow has Kareoke on Thursday nights and it was just in newsday. They also have the removable doors from the bar to the patio to extend the bar area. I am not into kareoke but would go on a Thur nite at Cal's if it was a nice night and could sit ouside and listen.

So, longhair your #'s are off a bit, but remember, not everyone who signed up said they were going to do the speed dating. Some were only coming for karaoke. | |

Great turnout for dating & karaoke & thanks for coming down. A new surprise event and location will be coming soon. For those who can come to Manhattan I'm doing one there in 2 weeks if you can make it.
P.S. I need you to find Steph for me. She's not on POF but was at the event. Don't remember who she came with.

I just double checked and see 39 were signed up for speed dating & 3 were signed up for karaoke, so total was 42. About 55 people actually showed up of which about 22 were females.
So, actually about 50% of those who signed up showed up which is normal based on the other events I've ran and on other events I've been to that other people ran. It would have been nice with more people, but unfortunately, that's not how people are. They just sign up and either have no intentiona of going or do but something prevents them. Very weird. | |

You need to take it up with the people that signed up and did't come, not the coordinator. I know from doing events that its alot of time and energy and the last thing you want is negative feedback on all your hard work that you arent being compensated for ...............and yes it does sound like you are being ungrateful - LET IT GO!  cheers | |

I'm not thrilled that people signed up and didn't show especially for speed dating as I had to do tons of prep work with cards and had their names printed up. Also, I said specificallly for this event to remove your name if you're not going to make it, but they didn't care. I guess when it's for free, people do what they want. If they had to pay I know they'd have shown up.
If I do another speed dating in the future, it will be different. I will be doing MUCH less work and the people who show up will have to do much more work like writing down information about 30 times and some other stuff. Unfortunately and as usual, those who didn't show up ruin it for everyone else who did show up. But that's another story, lol.
Then again, maybe it's better w/out those people showing up as you know how they are before you waste time getting involved with them.

yankee_holdem: I am not criticizing VG. Instead I am trying to see how many people I missed conversing with since I only saw about 14 women for the speed dating (as did someone else I spoke with). If 22 women showed up it means that a lot of people dropped out sadly. I had a big trip to get out to Levittown; I hope you understand. I am not an unreasonable person. | |

Posted: 7/31/2008 10:19:19 AM | It Figures- the TWO men complaining about turnout! LIMale had registered for Speed Dating, showed up and told me, he didn't find the women who DID turn out, to his liking, and backed out of speed dating.& stayed to watch the game. Please do not IM me anymore.
THERE is NO CHARGE for these events..and if YOU GUYS can do a better job- then go ahead and DO IT!!! See what a time consuming project it is.
Let Us know when and where to show up!

I was at Savannah last night- the band was awesome, and the place was crowded like it was Sat night..Emily & I went and had a great time.. you'd think they were giving away lotter $$$ tickets ( maybe they were??)  ..I did meet a great cute normal guy there,  but then he disappeared like Batman after the buffet! :
Dare I say, typical male??

If I do speed dating again, I am planning on the following changes: If you have any other suggestions you think will make it go smoother please let me know so I can consider them.
1. Participants must show up 1/2 hour before start time for instruction as reading what I typed up was not sufficient for everyone. Additionally, if someone shows up late, they will not be allowed to join in the middle as it’s too difficult to coordinate.
2. Club will have to keep music off or low as it was difficult to speak.
3. Speed dating forms will NOT be pre-printed. Instead everyone will write approximately 30 times their own name AND their email address or phone number if they’re not a POF’er, so that if there’s a match (both yeses) than the other person can contact you.

fun meeting up with VG and BVI.. after you left I did Carole King- " I feel the earth move" and my son wants to go back next week.. it is addicting
ANYONE who loves Kareoke- they have an awesome sound system and do it every Thursday 9-12..
Will def make it next Thurs!
