Why NOT a photo of someone in their apt., house, trailor, etc...? I don't get this question at all.
Oh, I just realized I never answered this. The reason I asked is because sometimes these photos are not very flattering (bad light, angles) and yet my interpretatin of POF is to attract someone for a romantic relationship... right? First impressions and all that?
Rather than a "mugshot," why not select a photo of yourself (even if you need to consult with friends) that complements you, what you love to do, your hobbies, pets, favourite places etc.? It's not about displaying your wealth (and some people took it that way), it's about sharing your life's passion. That's what puts a glow on your face and makes you attractive, no matter how you look.
Ah, but by now you think I'm a superficial gold-digger...

well I've almost heard it all now. We get dissed for pics of us and our bikes/cars/ toys. We get dissed for our lack of pictures, now we are getting flack for our homes we live in. What next? As if you women are soooooo perfect!!! OP werent speaking for all the ladies eventho she seem like she was. If he's sitting in his livingroom, that'd give me a chance to see what it looks like. lol if his apartment is messy, i'd be like, are you a messy person? hehe BEsides that i think we pay more attention to the person, not their surroundings.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 3:34:02 PM | but why would you post a photo of yourself in the living room of your sad little bachelor apartment?! Do you have any idea how not-appealing this is?
Speak for yourself honey!!
*I* am happy to see a man HAS his own place. Who cares if the bed is not made and clothes are everywhere! (Wait, that's my apartment). Anyway.... at least it's not a million pics of them with strippers (one pic with strippers is okay... ALL the pics with strippers is a bit much) and they aren't wearing clown make-up ( ) I've been on sites where all the men post are pics of their pee-pees. Yeah, I KNOW you are a male!
I guess I am so happy to see actual faces of men that I stopped caring about the background. (Unless it is a beautiful cave like CrazyTimes)

How 'bout if I post a picture standing next to my tool box? My box and tools are probably worth more than your car, princess.
You own a box of snap-on tools don't you? The ones that glisten in the sun and are chrome shiny? I got a small box of those that cost me $800 alone!

That's one interpritationn... the other is: "I work at a job where I make WAY more money than you and will rub it in your face every chance I get. ESPECIALLY when I want to spend time on my boat/motorcycle/car without your being there."
But not all of us women jump to such interpritations.... all the time :P

Ahhh ... but one dangerous assumption is being made here - that I haven't taken a picture of my passion. The wall in the background of my picture is of when I went through my entire house and repainted the walls. Earlier pictures of myself had my stained floors where I ripped out the old carpeting, sanded, and refinished all of the floors throughout the house. A labor? Yeah sure, but it was a labor of love for me. Right now, I'm stripping the trim of the layers of paint and repainting it. I've redone the upstairs bathroom; next is the downstairs bathroom and kitchen. Also, I'm redoing all of the switches and electric outlets and retrofiting the sprinkler system; before the trip I describe below I replaced/rewired all of the lighting in the basement.
Am I a slave in your eyes? Maybe, but in its own warped little way I think the house really appreciates it when I do it. After my divorce, I know it helped me since working on the house allowed me a chance to meditate and think about things. I know I get a sense of accomplishment for when the tasks are done. Now, I can't describe how happy I am.
Let's put it in perspective - I went to Melbourne, Australia for a month about three months ago. For the first few weeks, I liked to see around and visit the sites - but mainly I had to work. However, by the third week, I missed my house and all of the projects I was doing at home before the trip.
Not all of us get our jollies jumping around on 4-wheelers and riding bicycles in the countryside ... forgive my weirdness ...

how about a picture of you yesterday smiling at the camera - close up and easy to see?
Well as you can clearly see, my main picture is like that and it has not done anything for me.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 8:39:52 PM | LOL, i just read another post from a woman saying she hated men posting pictures on motorcycles, boats, cars, or any toys, and another saying she hated men posting pics with no shirt, another hated them of men in shorts, another hated them holding cats, another dogs, another with their kids, another hated holding stupid fish, one hated posing with dead animals......... I think the solution is to hide all your pics, find a woman you like, ask her what photos she hates/likes, and post them really quick before she has time to look at your profile, ohh, i forgot, no one answers unless you have a pic Personally, i look for someone who doesn't use their morgue pic Which however leads me to ask why i keep seeing women with pics taken in public toilets????? I've noticed a lot of women whose pics were taken at motels, and hotel /restaraunt lobbies, wooooaah, are they too embarrassed to show their living room? The only ones i avoid are ones that use pics of them with their exes and the exes eyes are clawed out | |

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 8:50:27 PM | Excellent point OP, I've seen some crappy apartments.
Basic Marketing: A picture tells a story. What picture does your's tell? Did you spend any effort to make your pic/apt seem cleaner/nicer? Do you not clean up for company?
Basic People: most people take crappy photos. Nonproffessional snapshots are rarely interesting. Of all the photo-happy people you know, look at their photos and decide who takes the best one, then get them to take pictures- especially during something fun that you and your friends do, and don't be afraid to ask them to get some close ups. And clean your apartment.
If it's not something you wouldn't do/show on a first date, basic rule don't do it on your (first impression) profile.
Thanks OP, you canadians are interesting.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 8:57:12 PM | Sometimes I truly have to say that I am ashamed at some of my sisters! And this post would be one of them! Sad little apartment? I see by your profile that you do not have children. Thus, I assume you have no idea how much money it takes to live on your own and add child support into the mix? Sure a guy who posts pics of himself standing over a dead animal ,I have to say doesn't do a lot for me, but to ridicule his apartment? God g/f give your head a shake! No wonder some men think we are money hungry gals when someone like you posts such a silly thought. Sorry for the rant hun, but you need to seriously sit yourself down and re-think things! | |

I am pretty content in the idea that MOST men have no decorating sense and and MOST men have no desire to decorate. I'm totally okay with that. It just makes it easier for me to imagine forcing my decorating ideas on them in the event that the relationship should move on to that stage. And I'm REALLY okay with that as decorating happens to be one of my favorite things to do.
You need to come check out my apartment if you think guys don't have taste lol. Whole apartment is done with nice neutral colors with an oriental theme (Bamboo plants make wonderful accents for almost any decor). Antique and leather furniture. Nice paintings and pictures, bookshelves, cases and such (and no I am not rich I know how to haggle and stretch a dollar ; ) lol). The only thing out of the ordinary is my 6 guitars the proudly sits on displays 4 of them cost me over $2,000, the fifth one is not completely finished but I have totally customized it myself, and the other is almost 50 years old and is a rare collectors guitar, and then my guitar amp that stands 7'2" (for those who speak guitar speak 2 head units pushing 270w too 2 4x12" cabs loaded with Celestions). No they don't just sit there to look pretty they get played, restrung, and polished on a regular basis (and my 3 year old son is one of the very few people that gets to touch or play them, and the only one who gets to help me work on them). Now you know why all my friends call me "Metro" lol.
As far as womens taste man I have seen some bad ones off of here. One here entire apartment was done with band posters, pinup posters, and stolen road signs. She has 3 kids to. Another girl I met was all Bart Simpson and the Simpsons. So you think guys have bad taste I have seen a lot worse out of some women then I have out of any of my guy friends.

It's simple, most guys don't carry around cameras to take pictures of themselves/friends.
I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT that sits in the house 99% of the time. When I want to shot a photo I pull that big camera and tripod out, scout out a location, and shoot. The camera is way to big to carry around on a daily basis, and I'd hate to break my camera mountain biking, running, or swimming at the beach.

Those are very nice cameras. How many lenses do you have for it? lol. Sorry I know which camera you are talking about and it is a very nice camera. They have been the cutting edge of digital cams since the first version of it was released back in 2002.

Just the stock lens right now. I've got my eye on the 55-200mm w/auto stabilization but I need to finish up a few projects I've already started before I buy any more toys...
I worked with a guy who shot with L-series lens... amazing pictures but I definitely cannot afford $3000+ lens at the moment.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 10:05:48 PM | Perhaps a motel room is better? Seriously does everybody take there camera everywhere? Besides no matter what the light nor what setting my cam always seems to give off a dark background. Outdoor or Indoor. White is bright when your tan is dark. | |

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/15/2008 10:07:44 PM | Hey I have an even better photo of me on my profile. Me with my shirt off in my apartment playing on of my guitars. Now that hits all 3 in one go apartment photo, shirtless photo, and my toys photo. Damn I'm good lol.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/16/2008 12:29:38 AM | The OP is having fun with this post What she is NOT doing is finding what she wants on POF. So could all of the men in her area and age range change into what she wants ....oh, and be sure to be "genuine" when you do it ? Make sure to "put a glow on your face" to prove that changing for her is "what you love to do". THAT'S what will make you "attractive" to her, which is what you are all here to do, yes ? | |
