| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/16/2008 5:47:16 AM | The OP is having fun with this post She wasn't at first. It's funny how a few good slams can induce an epiphany. (Good. That shows flexibility and humility. There's hope for you yet chicky.)
So could all of the men in her area and age range change into what she wants... This has got to be the best line I've ever read on POF. EVER!
You know... sometimes we say shit that dumps us in the sin bin. But if we realise our mistake and recover, we think we're out of it because everyone laughs WITH us this time. But after a while, we realise we're stuck in the friend zone. It's kinda like purgatory. You could be in there for an eternity.
As for the Branson's of the world: There are only 3,000,000 millionaires in Canada & the US (.009% of the population). If you want to increase your chances of marrying a millionaire (that was $24,000,000 in the early 1900's btw) here are some interesting statistics to wake you from your day dream: 61% of millionaires are more than 56 years old. But you're looking for someone 40-55 so... and only 29% of them are in your range. So that's 870,000 people. Oh.. not really, 84% of the 29% are married, so now you're down to 139,000 millionaires. But we're not done are we. Let's include the gay branson types so as to not totally deflate your hopes. Now POF has 600,000 users, that's .02% of the population, so NOW you're down to 2,780 rich buggers. Oh... HAHAHA and where are they?! Not in Vancouver. You only have 2,000,000 people NOT 333,000,000!! So now you're left with a tiny wienie 166 dudes with Violent tendencies, addictions, OCD, ED, HIV, Herpes, and the 4 'good' guys just read your post so... Oh just quit searching. It's hopeless. You blew it.
As for UHNWI's (ultrahigh net worth individuals of 30 mil+) there are only 0.007% of them and 99% of them are married. Only 2,000 of them are single. WORLDWIDE!.

I can understand if your profile photo is of you in front of your motorcycle, sportcar or boat -- but why would you post a photo of yourself in the living room of your sad little bachelor apartment?! Do you have any idea how not-appealing this is?
I had this sudden flash of satori, after reading this thread again. Suddenly, the real source of the problem jumped off my monitor, and I cursed myself for not having seen it before.
It's the fault of the women who won't date such disadvantaged men, and give them the benefit of their love, affection, ....and those years of dedicated viewing of all those decorating shows.
Ladies
They call out to you for your wisdom, your color co-ordinating talents, and your percale Egyptian cotton sheets from Martha Stewart's store. Don't turn your back on them, and let such a man's life be wasted.....duty calls you.
I'm thinking of starting a telethon, or an "adopt-a-clueless-decorator-man-for-life " program. It would be like the SPCA , and you could visit and see these poor examples of humanity sitting there in little booths - with mismatched socks, and frayed collars.
Sign some papers, snap the leash on, and voila !

| Take a look for yourself Posted: 7/16/2008 10:47:23 AM | After reading this forum, I started looking at random women and men's photo with the question in mind, and it does seem to say that women put a little more effort into thier photos.... (or you could ingore it and just get offended some stranger dared question your poor photography)
-a good looking, flattering, and clean outfit -a clear picture of your face, close up (a full body shot is nice too) -if it the background shows other things about you, make sure they are good looking, flattering, and clean -lighting is important, so take a bunch of pictures- you don't have to use all of them -remember to smile, and have some shots looking at the camera, some away -please add titles and dates -a little work goes a long way -you have portraits, glamour poses, and action shots. Try to find a balance (remember it's about telling a story) Leave the landscapes at home.
Of course, I hardly have any pictures of myself, so I went to my camera happy friends to get some. I know I do have to start carrying a camera around, which is a choice and commitment to this dating site.
-a little thinking goes a long way too.

I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT that sits in the house 99% of the time. When I want to shot a photo I pull that big camera and tripod out, scout out a location, and shoot. The camera is way to big to carry around on a daily basis, and I'd hate to break my camera mountain biking, running, or swimming at the beach.
Great Camera...got my daughter one two years ago and it is what she used to take my pictures in my sad living room...yanno single mom but I hide the faux leather sofa from view.
Rather than a "mugshot," why not select a photo of yourself (even if you need to consult with friends) that complements you, what you love to do, your hobbies, pets, favourite places etc.? It's not about displaying your wealth (and some people took it that way), it's about sharing your life's passion. That's what puts a glow on your face and makes you attractive, no matter how you look.
Its a shame you chose to word your orginial post is such a degrading manner rather than simply express this to start with...but then would you have gotten the attention you were wanting?

just where do YOU think we men "should" be taking our pics at that ALL women will find acceptable since cars, boats, motorcycles, hats and now our homes are boring, dumb or not cool There's a simple solution to this.
-First of all, the background is obviously a problem - so clean, blank and white. -Strong, direct lighting, shot from straight on, so there's no "creative" use of shadows or angles, and you can see everything. -Women also hate when guys are lying and are cheating on their spouses, so we should probably put his name on there somewhere too. -Of course we've all heard the complaints about guys lying about their height, so put a standardized height scale on the wall behind them... and maybe some alternate side angles for good measure.
There y'go, any guy with a picture like that on his profile should definitely impress the ladies - problem solved!

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/17/2008 6:21:15 AM | | I think the same thing when I see photo's of people holding a wine glass, beer mug, or something that suggests they're drinking alcohol. Is that supposed to be the "party side" of their personality? | |

Posted: 7/17/2008 10:19:37 AM | | i bsolutely agree with ubkobalt and paper or plastic. why does it matter where the picture is taken? from my point of view as long as there is a smile on his face the pic is all good. i mean after all aren't they suposed to be in a batchelor pad if they are single guys. just an observation!!!

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/17/2008 12:00:46 PM | I feel I am speakinng fo most guys when I say that we dont go ound taking pics of ourselves. Usually it when we are at a family or social gathering someone snaps a pic and sends us a copy, we photoshop it and post it on a profile. If you look at the 4th pic in my profile its photoshopped and yeah i do have my arm on someones shoulder and its my best friend. Out of coutesy I cropped him out before I posted it.
One thing I thought of instead of people complaining about it, maybe on one of the next meet and greeets, we could get a photographer to show up and take pics of us for us :-) kill 2 birds with one stone.

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/17/2008 4:07:31 PM | Well I think i've just bout heard it all now. What does it matter I mean really if a man takes a pic of himself in his apt???????I can't believe anyone would ask that. I frankly don't care where a guy takes his pic, it sure as heck doesn't dictate wether or not i'll like him, sheeshe who cares. I'm sure alot of guys could say something bout your pics, which frankly I don't see anything special with them. I agree with all you men on this one, go judge her pics and lets see what you think. LOL | |

Someone should tell him shirtless pictures never work ...

Hey guys,
I can understand if your profile photo is of you in front of your motorcycle, sportcar or boat -- but why would you post a photo of yourself in the living room of your sad little bachelor apartment?! Do you have any idea how not-appealing this is?
Well, it could be worse..they could post a pic of themselves on the beach in an innertube
Actually, it could be worse-they could have taken a pic of themselves in the zecutive washroom

| Why a photo of you in your apartment?! Posted: 7/17/2008 6:52:27 PM | Because I live there. If I went outside I would be caught in the crossfire. Oh, sorry I had a flashback from when I lived in an apartment. Twitch...
Why the stoopid question?
PS. Guys pose by a mansion. Doesn't matter you don't live there. ........ Op will like it. And she is quite a catch. I can tell this from her post. If she biches that I can't, then maybe I lack her powers in reading a book by it's cover.
