Generally breakfast for me is a double Espresso and some oatcakes (the biscuit veriety) but if I had to have a fry-up: bacon (dry cured); sausage (preferably beef or venison); fried fresh tomato; fried open cup mushrooms; toast; gratefruit juice; coffee.
I'm full just writing it down.

| The full english? Posted: 9/11/2008 9:17:56 AM | For me a good English Brekkie consists of at least the majority of these ingredients, the ones with an asterisk are "Essentials".
2 x Pork Sausages* 2 x Bacon Rashers* 2 x Eggs (Fried or scrambled)* 1 x Fried Mushrooms 2 x Fried toms* 2 x Hash browns 1 x Chips or fried potatoes 1 x Beefburger 1 x Baked Beans* 1 x Tom Ketchup & Mayo 1 x Fried bread 1 x Toast 1 x Buttered bread (Need to mop up... yum yum)* 1 x Cup of Tea or Coffee* 1 x Tom Ketchup & Mayo
This thread reminded me of when I was at uni,I cooked a breakfast for me and a couple of mates using most of the above ingredients. Took me about three times as long to cook it than it did to eat it.

| The full english? Posted: 9/11/2008 9:19:16 AM | A proper cooked breakfast obviously will have regional variations.

| The full english? Posted: 9/11/2008 9:27:55 AM | We will have to organise some kind of English Breakfast meet. All chip in a few quid and have someone cook it for us. None of that "Value Crap" mind, needs to be top notch ingredients (As much as funds would allow of course),proper Heinze beans,Hellmans mayo, fresh mushroom etc.
So who's volunteering?
|
| The full english? Posted: 9/11/2008 9:45:29 AM |
Hellmans mayo...
On a full English? Count me out. Also the tomatoes and mushrooms have to be fresh, not the canned crap.

Well each to their own,i got started on that years ago when someone introduced me to the joy of Chips & Mayo. I quite like both fresh grilled toms and the tinned plum toms,I do have to say that I hate the tinned mushrooms that they tend to dish out in most places these days.

| The full english? Posted: 9/14/2008 9:22:57 AM | | In a lot of ways you are all right. I have Hash Browns with mine. I hate black Pudding but when I was in Ireland I discovered white pudding. Anyone know where I might buy white pudding in Hull? | |
|
| The full english? Posted: 9/14/2008 9:31:52 AM | It might not be quite the traditional thing.... but there is a cafe near me who provides a brekkie of
Bacon Beans Mushrooms Tomatoes Sausages Eggs Toast And And Bubble and squeak!
Or a combination of the above. Washed down with a mug of tea or coffee.
Putting the fried eggs on top of the bubble and squeak, letting the yolks mix into the potato and cabbage is absolutly scrummy.

| The full english? Posted: 9/14/2008 11:40:34 AM | | I've never met a woman who likes an English breakfast in my entire life. I keep meeting vegetarians or fussy eaters. And I was expecting almost all the replies on this thread to be from men! | |
|
| The full english? Posted: 9/14/2008 12:29:35 PM | Every day in work i have for breakfast 2 rounds of cheese on toast Bacon x 2 Sausage Beans Hash browns Fried eggs x 2 Toast Mugs of tea x 2 | |
|
| The full english? Posted: 9/14/2008 5:04:59 PM | I don't consider black pudding English, but you guys fry a lot of things too. You should come to Canada. Our idea of a big breakfast is usually eggs, toast, juice, fried potatoes, sliced tomatoes, and Peameal Bacon. FYI... Peameal bacon is more like a bit of gammon rolled in peameal. We also have a dish called Poutine - french fries with cheese curds and gravy... it tops the Scottish diet for no nutritional value.
Edit: Mmmm, I haven't had bubble and squeak for decades... and my mom used to like kippers for breakfast.
