And can you please describe what standards in nursing need to be changed so that more males will be attracted? Last I checked, nurses aren't required to wear the sexy little dress and hat combo anymore. So please, do explain: What barriers are there that are keeping YOU out of the nursing field? No what barriers are there to you paying the same amount for the same service? And yes sure lipstick feminists support porn but the majority of factions still claim it is more male oppression Silly little feminists get so cute when they are mad.

WHAT?????????????????'Men like you are why there is still a need for active feminists. That is actually the most insulting and demeaning thing to say. To simply discount anything that I say because I am a woman/feminist is just wrong.
But your stupidity and ignorance aside: What service are you talking about? Paying the same amount for what service? It was YOU that brought up the fact that there are barriers keeping men out of the nursing industry. I was just hoping that you could clarify what these might be. I am not a nurse, so I may not be aware of the barriers that exist. Oh, you couldn't answer it because you're full of it? Ok, I see.

it's all about economics. That's exactly it. The bar basically "uses" the women as an attraction (or you could even say "bait") to draw men in. The bar gives free/reduced drinks to women in exchange for the right to exploit them.

| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 9:24:45 AM | | ^^^^ Kinda like how they used to keep blacks out of certain places, or at least out of sight and out of the way at the back of the bus, in order to "improve the atmosphere" and thus make the place more attractive to whites, which was good for business. | |

I can't recall an single feminist suggesting that standards should be changed in the nursing field to attract more men and thus better reflect society as a whole, why rock the boat when women are getting access to a good paying job and have been over represented there for centuries right?
Which standards in the nursing field need to be changed? I teach college, and I have had several male nursing students, but yes, females outnumber the males, but WHY?
It isn't the standards of the nursing programs, it is SOCIETY'S standards that keep more males from going into traditionally female roles because they fear being labeled "sissy" or even gay. In one of my classes, I had two male nursing students, and a NON feminist woman in the class made a remark about men who become nurses. I saw the faces of both the men, bemused and annoyed. I asked the woman what type of men become nurses and she said effeminate men. She had NO idea that two of her classmates were in the program, thus belying her own beliefs.
I used to sub, and within the schools were I went, men were actively recruited to teach in the lower grades--teaching positions traditionally held by women--yet I saw few men teach Kindergarten or first grade. It was NOT because there was a bias.
And before you start whining about the standards of society, let me remind you that the west has been patriarchal since at least the advent of the Greeks. Males made the rules and set most of the mores and roles of our society. Nursing/teaching small kids were women's fields because men were doctors and university professors. Women were/are seen as nurturers, and thus, better suited for taking care of sick people and children.
Guys, women didn't make the rules! We have influenced the changing of rules, but if you want to complain about ladies' night or anything else where it seems that women get preferential treatment, complain to the higher ups--JUST AS WOMEN HAVE BEEN DOING SINCE THE SUFFRAGETTE MOVEMENT BEGAN.
OP, if you don't like ladies' night, I suggest that you make posters and stand outside the bar, protesting.
Good luck. | |

Silly little feminists get so cute when they are mad.
Too bad that silly whining men are not cute when they whine.
In fact, it makes them VERY unattractive.
No what barriers are there to you paying the same amount for the same service?
Dude, YOU brought up nurses, didn't you? (Or some other man.) Why throw a red herring into the pot and then bail when someone answers you? If you didn't want comments or questions, why pose the question?
And as for paying the same amount for the same service--when I was married, my ex wanted me to go pick up a car part for him. He called the garage and they quoted a price. When I got there, I told them what I wanted and they quoted a much higher price. I said that my husband had called and it wasn't the same quote. The man helping me grew very flustered, red-faced, and started to stutter (I swear this is true!). He started backtracking and trying to explain, but the best he could come up with was, "Oh, well, yeah, I guess it is the lower price" and gave me the part for that amount.
He was trying to stick it to me because I am a woman. I have seen this happen to other women, as well.

So what your saying is all women are gold diggers and prostitutes? They only meet men if free drinks are involved right? Got it.
That's not what i said...But the no cover does attract more women than usuall. And as for the buying drinks...go read the many threads about "who should pay","And should a woman buy a round of drinks".Before you start attacking people with your views.Get informed. How many times has a woman bought you drinks vs the opposite?Just observe before you make idiotic comments as those. Get off your high horse and face the facts.
I never said it was wrong...you have this view that those women are considered gold diggers and prostitutes.
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 10:20:44 AM | I can't imagine making a decision to go/not go somewhere based on a cover charge -- usually what, about $10? -- geez.
I doubt this really brings in more women, but is a marketing ploy to make men think so.

| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 10:35:31 AM | equal rights is stupid. it only applies when the men get something out of it. womenn still get paid 70 cents to a man's dollar. i dont wanna be treated like a man- i aint got a dinaling swingin tween my thighs- im pretty footed feminine and sensitive. oh and i shower regularly so hell no! down with womens "equality" anyway when you really think about it- besides suffrage and the obvious women take that crap too far if you ask me (not all but some) like when it comes to abortion. i hate that shit. men have a right to their children just as much as women and tiny humans have rights too at least in my world. if both parents dont want the baby theres plenty of rich white couples (gays too!) that would pay big bucks and lavish that baby with dam near everything. as for ladies night hell yeah! i never been to one but where does prostitution cme into play there? drinks for sex??? lol thats funny.... id rather take drinks from a loser that THINKS HES ENTITLED to sex for drinks. THEN GET TIPSY AND ROLL OVER TO THE COOL DUDE THAT HAS COMMON SENCE TO SAVE HIM SOME MONEY-!!!!
WHAT A TRIP AND THERES ALSO A MORAL OF THE STORY- YA MIGHT WANNA RE-READ THIS

Sorry... This is very problematic. lots of rich white couples? Come on now.
Also, I don't think you would have such a flippant attitude about the women's movement if you weren't able to vote, etc. I'm just saying.

equal rights is stupid.
Wow! That was quite the little diatribe.
If you don't want equal rights, then refuse them--it's just that easy. Get a man (do you have one? Why are you on POF looking for another before you get rid of the first?) to support you and stay at home and take care of your babies and then your grandbabies.
Really, no one is stopping you.
im pretty footed feminine and sensitive. oh and i shower regularly
What qualifies as "feminine"? Given your tone and word use in your post, I bet that by social standards, I look and act a lot more "feminine" than you do. Oh, and I shower regularly, too--I didn't know that not showering was the hallmark of men and feminists.

| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 12:52:04 PM | Hold on ... are you people saying that women actually get free drinks (courtesy of the bar, I mean) during these Ladies' Nights? That can't be true. Really? I've got to get out more.
Can I go with a few buddies from work to a bar on Ladies' Night and nab a bunch of free (or cheap?) drinks and hand them out? I guess the bar owners wouldn't like that too much, but couldn't I just say I'm planning to drink all six Zombies or whatever?
I'm not even sure if the bars here have Ladies' Nights. I've never seen them advertised.

| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 1:05:14 PM | damit! all those years... and I was "suppose" to get sex for buying all those drinks!!!
damit, I'm pissed!!! | |

| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 1:29:13 PM | There are guys-nights-out everywhere here where I live. I don't think any of them are getting any more sex than those who go to ladies night. Good grief OP ~ snivel about buying a few drinks and not getting any tail. Welcome to reality. | |
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 3:57:30 PM | | Well if you are happy with one night stands then go for it. When i go out for ladies night out, guys have nothing to do with it, I am theire to have fun with my friends and i pay for myself. | |
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 4:05:23 PM | | I can't even remember the last time I went to a bar, it's been that long. Personally, I find the bar scene boring and derogatory towards women. | |
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/18/2008 5:12:03 PM | | the primary reason is that guys do bye more drinks than girls and will keep getting free drinks. Now at a bar I frequent they give the girl a free shot ticket she can use or give to someone she likes and we all pay cover. | |

California did several years ago after a couple of weenie boys whined and went to court
Is not " weenie boys", is that when California means " equal", it means " EQUAL", not some " half-arse" civil rights, such as " Civil Unions", that's why they legalized same-sex marriage overthere. The California Supreme Court doesn't give a rat-arse about " clubs wanting to make money". This practice of charging more to one sex is illegal per the U.S Constitution.
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/19/2008 10:28:23 AM | | I have the answer!!!! Give up the bar scene! I did years ago, and had no desire to go back even after my divorce. I find the whole nightclub/bar scene a ridiculous waste of time, nothing but one BIG game!!!! | |
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/19/2008 10:29:10 AM | | why do you think the ladies go to these places. Let me give you a hint, it has something to with no cover, they aren't coming to see you and could give a s^&% if you buy them a drink. | |
|
| ladies' night is dumb Posted: 7/19/2008 10:35:22 AM | | If it don't make sense (but should), it's more than likely all about $$$. | |

Untrue. I legally charge women more for their haircuts than men.
Drycleaners do the same. Perfectly legal.
