I found his obsessive preoccupation with the whole idea of being with 'Chinese' versus any other woman that he would be naturally attracted to raised some red flags -it is about objectifying the person, attraction based on ethnicity - something is wrong here.
Of course something is off kilter - Your friend is an Asiaphile! He bought into the whole negative stereotyping of asian women as submissive and will wait hand and foot on their mate....That's baloney! Once the walls are down he'll find out that she's like any other woman, with flaws and all....And that'll shatter his little asian lotus blossom fantasy. | |

Posted: 7/25/2008 7:45:34 AM | Samming women, or men, can be located in any country. The best tip to give is that if they ask you for money for any reason, then don't send it. I haven't known any from China, according to them, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. Some of the women are legit, though. One of my best friend's brothers married a Phillipino lady, originally from the Phillipines, and are still celebrating a long, successfull marriage.

I didn't read all the pages of posts, but to put it bluntly, go look up some news from China and you'll understand what I mean. Generally, my culture says what matters is what others see. Any means you get there by, no matter how immoral, is perfectly fine. Many (not all) Chinese girls are like that, but I'd say a good number of them will portray themselves as a nice sweet girl to get you to get them to the States, but after you marry them...be sure to be prepared to experience hell. | |

True, but I didn't put a racial barrier on scammers/cheaters/thieves/liars. I simply said that because of my culture, many people from my native country resort to scamming and cheating, not that others don't do it. | |

If you're not sure she is a scammer, try sending her a letter saying "I'm having doubts about your intentions and have forwarded a query to the ICCC", or something to that effect. If she never contacts you again, you'll have the answer. You can wait until she asks for money, that should send up some huge warning flags. Of course, it is not uncommon for scammers to wait weeks or months before they ask for cash. Many of them will have dozens, if not hundreds of men on the line and scamming several per day into giving them money is easy. Unless your prepared to move to China to be near her, I say kick her to the curb and concentrate on the ladies at home. Not saying there aren't scammers here; just that there is less of a chance of you getting your heart AND your wallet broke. | |

Nope, China is no different. I'm just saying it's bad. Anyway, you have a good point there...We live in America/Canada. There are hundreds of thousands of Chinese girls here. If you want one, just look down the street or something. Why date a girl from halfway across the world when halfway across the country is much more convenient (and that's being very lenient with the distance). | |

You know, those that act like they've never seen or been touched by a man before. Well, some may be real virgins but most...don't be fooled. I think that's why American men are most attracted to Asian, esp. Chinese and Japanese women because they seem so Child-like (which is sick if you're into that!) and innocent. DON'T be fooled. They're devils in disguise, luring you in with their sweet smiles and kiddy giggles. That's their main strategy when it comes to attracting an Asian man; so it seems Americans are being hooked by it too. So be careful and wary of these girls...they may act like they can't break an egg but they sure can break your wallets! Peace dude. Don't mean to hate on my own race but let's just say I know them more than you do.  | |

Posted: 10/9/2008 2:31:17 PM | eesh, i'm all over "duckling's" comment! c'mon, lets stop generalizing people. can we do that? it's almost 2010! if anyone wants to start a relationship with someone in a foreign country (be they here or there) you're going to have totally different traditions and values to work with and around. i think north americans could learn a thing or two from the deep seeded values from other countries. not all are good, but most are with good intent and are 'family' oriented.
ps, i'm caucasion but don't rule the world. i'm a woman but i'm not a gold digger. i'm blonde but don't have more fun than my brunette friends...there are bad people everywhere, but if you generalize you're going to miss out on lots of awesome opportunities and experiences and friends. | |

Well nothing wrong with generalizing in a comment as long as you give each person you meet an unbiased chance. Generalizations are called that because the group in general follows them, but that's not to say every person does. | |

Before I was a Rock Star in L.A., I dated/lived with Chinese and Japanese girls. Hey, it was free love and no AIDS. And usually their idea. I was broke and so were they but we got by. I sold Free Press newspapers to the tourists in the Love Summer of '67 on the Sunset Strip and played in the Blues Band to pay our rent.
I found the Chinese girl I lived with to be more sincere and caring than the Japanese girls (not at once...over time). I was astounded when my China Girl carried our stuff and walked behind me when we went to see The Who at the Coliseum in '72. I didn't ask her to do that. I even asked why she was doing that and suggested we share the load. I was very kind to her, as well. The few Japanese girls I have lived with seemed to be a little less considerate, more self-centered. But that could just be the ones I met.
Skip ahead now 40 years.
I was scammed the most in my life by a girl I met when I played a party in Zuma Beach, L.A. and met the best scammer in the world. A California girl which proves there are no boundaries or borders. - She looked just like Uma Thurman.
In my feeble defense, I should say that I had been hit by a drunk driver years before(while I was parked) at 50 M.P.H. - destroyed the car (I'll never drive a little car again - I like my '96 Town Car. It's life insurance. People say I could save money on gas - what? So I can afford a nice coffin?) But now I am getting off point. Sorry.
So the doc gave me 3 - 80mg.Oxycotin/day (synthetic morphine for the agonizing pain) . I was in therapy 7 years. I could not put my guitar on for two years without dropping to the floor in spinal pain. The pain killers clouded my judgment. But it was that or daggers in my spine for years. (what happened to girls after 1985? They were so nice before that, generally.)
I went five years without dating as the previous scammer I was living with until a month before the wreck (an L.A. girl) was the one who told me to pull over so she could yell at me some more just two blocks from the house. That’s when we got hit. Her seat back broke and absorbed the impact so she was not hurt. The drunk hit my rear corner. Good thing I can take a joke. Sorry, off the point again.
The Uma clone seemed to see I could be fooled and manipulated me easily in my condition. This Scientologist of 20 years ( I didn't know) went through $400,000 IN TWO YEARS. I didn't even feel it, she was so smooth.
I know- I was stupid and too much in love. Not lust, the sex was so-so. I was in REAL love. Things like she knew the whole dictionary so I was able to use my extensive vocabulary. She was perky and made me feel special. Supercon. If you have seen "My Super ex-girlfriend", you have seen her.
She professed to have $600,000 in Europe and one...oops a day later 2 kids who never went to school 8 and 12. I did my best to help that - bought them computers (kids without computers have no future), got the 8 yr. old girl in school but the 12 yr.old boy who smoked like a chimney was a punk and had a short fuse.
I got him to stop smoking by paying him $5/day he did not smoke. It worked. I saw an his friends were amazed. I only had to pay him for a month. Who goes to Whole Foods and charges $800 in one visit. Those little bottles of potions and lotions are expensive but wow did she smell good! Treated me like a king. I thought I had my life back. Then she started the short fuse/Psycho -breaks. Out of character. Rage. Jealousy of TV actors. The beginning of the end. And I thought this was forever. Good thing I can take a joke...
Of course, when the money ran out, so did she. After she moved out, I would find empty wine botttles hidden around the house. I didn't drink, but I had told her I didn't mind if she did. So why did she hide it? Then I found out she had been married four times. Come to think of it, she did have me pay off huge debts she owed in the first month. There was the first big red flag. She did not have a job. Red flag number two. Married for times and worshiped a religion made up by a science-fiction writer. Wow, the Perfect Storm. Those horrible pain-killers dull the brain. I would have been better off in physical agony than losing my life svings. But I will recover. I recovered when the first Bush wiped out my $1.1 million I made in real estate. Just get up, brush yourself off, and start again because the only thing that counts is what you do now.
So I guess I should have stayed with my caring, kind Chinese girl I met here in L.A. who never asked for a thing.
You can get scammed in your own back yard.
And, as Jay Leno pointed out, "When you meet an L.A. woman these days they whip out their internet-capable cell phone and check your FICO score before they decide to talk to you."
Now I am drug free, never did drink, don't smoke anything (Rock Star stereotypes are not true - lots of musicians I know don't do drugs - gets in the way of the music) and I have my JUDGMENT back. That is what anyone needs to use. Common sense; actions, not words tell what is going on. Then you won't get scammed by anyone in the world.
P.S. If you GOTTA get a mate from out of the country, take the time to go there.
Check it out. It's your life. It goes by faster than the blink of an eye.
We are all citizens of the world. Not very many of us seem to appreciate that we get a free ride around the sun every year on this spinning rock we live on that is flying through space.
So stop with the petty squabbling. Just do your best and use common sense. Stay away from mind-altering substances if you can as they cause you to make big mistakes.

Your brother should go to see her in her country first. At least, he could have seen how her country looked like and found out where the woman was. Scammers, including men and women, are everywhere; many scammers are in western countries as well. Those senior managers at AIGs who have scammed all your taxpayers' money aren't Asian women. The sex industry is a multibillion one simply because of all the horny guys out there. It's almost the same with the illegal-drug industry. I've even "met" an American woman on an adult dating site who was a "scammer" (or at least misleading). It turns out she was a camgirl just looking for "customers".
Love and sex are drugs. So is money. That's why the Madoffs of the world can rip off so many people and get richer. All women, no matter what her nationality is, have the potential to be the best thing or the worst thing that ever happened to you, so shop around and be careful. Take your time before making the "final purchase". | |
