NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The day he actually holds those clergy accountable... in a court of law and within the Church, then justice will have been served. Words not followed by actions are just a waste of air.

Sorry, that's the way I see it.

Put your money where your mouth is or STFU.

I couldn't agree more with you, Raven.... the churches have dodged paying for any damages in every way possible.

Unfortunately, having the priests in court doesn't seem to matter much, either. I have two personal friends who have taken the RC church to court and won multi-million dollar settlements..... and have yet to see a penny. They have not even received therapeutic help.... and they are not native - just people who got abused by priests that they trusted in their childhood. The one friend was a leader in the class action suit that landed Father Chester in jail in Kingston, Ontario - where he recently died. So, while the courts have made him pay his debt to society, the RC church has yet to pay her or any of the other victims a penny - for their responsibility in the whole fiasco. They have "downloaded" the cost to the local diocese - who has claimed bankruptcy..... sounds like our provincial politics, now doesn't it?

I am Catholic. I agree with you O.P. What a man John Paul II was. He is my hero and still is. What a tremendous spiritual leader and inspiration he was and continues to be. I think it's very important for people of all faiths to admit when they were wrong and try to become better people for it. What happened with the Catholic Church with the sex scandal was very disturbing. The cover-ups were very disturbing. Thousands were hurt and affected by it in many ways. The problem was very troubling but heopefully the Church has learned by it and taken actions to not let something like that happen again.
