Competition is a good thing, the best thing really for the republican party is to have to really take a look at itself and make some changes. I believe they have to and will do that.
Hillary said republicans were facing political extinction. I tend to agree, so to assume republicans have no where to go but up could easily be wishful thinking And your opinion very easily could be partisan bias.

| How Bad is it for Republicans? Posted: 11/23/2008 5:32:47 AM | The election of Obama is the death of the Republican party?
You're got to be kidding me... Did you LOOK at the map? There are an awful lot of states, like here in Georgia, where the trend is going the other way. In recent years we elected our first Republican Governor in 150 years. We currently have both US Senate seats, and a majority in both houses of our legislature. This all came about within the last few election cycles.
Like I've said before, this nation is in the midst of the worst econimic crisis we've seen in years, and the truth is BOTH parties are to blame for it. What was our answer? We passed a socialist bailout package, and elected the first black president. That's like trying to cure cancer by promoting smoking and inventing a new tooth paste.
So far, the Dow Jones has dropped 2100 points since Obama was elected. It is down 19% in just the last month since Barack Obama was elected President, yet he's had nothing to say about it. When he fails to turn the economy around fast enough, the voters will realize thier mistake and turn on him too.

So far, the Dow Jones has dropped 2100 points since Obama was elected. It is down 19% in just the last month since Barack Obama was elected President, yet he's had nothing to say about it. What should he say about it? He's not the president and it didn't happen on his watch.
He will obviously have to deal with it ... but from my seat behind the computer ... it happened on "Dubya's" watch. He's the one that took us to war and brought on all this horrible national debt. Just how could that possibly be something that OBAMA needs to be dealing with before he's even sworn in?
When he fails to turn the economy around fast enough, the voters will realize thier mistake and turn on him too. "Dubya" did all his damage over 8 years and OBAMA only gets .... how long are the neocons giving him?
How long would they have given McCain? Or would they even have asked it of McCain?
OT ... I think it looks bad for the Republicans. It'll look really bad if we can get a bunch of them thrown in prison for all the crimes they committed over the past 8 years.
|
| How Bad is it for Republicans? Posted: 11/23/2008 6:50:32 PM | "Dubya" did all his damage over 8 years and OBAMA only gets .... how long are the neocons giving him?
How long would they have given McCain? Or would they even have asked it of McCain? No kidding....they want to blame Obama for the economy and are complaining that he hasn't fixed it when he isn't even President yet. It's not his responsibility until January 20, 2009. If he were doing more, they'd be complaining that he's stepping on Bush's toes, that his ego has outgrown his head and that he's trying to take over while Bush is still in the White House. There is no scenario with Obama in it that will ever satisfy some disgruntleds, that's just the way it is. They don't like that Obama won, they don't like him, they don't want to like him, and they will fabricate reasons to complain about him and blame things on him.
It's not looking good for the GOP, but that is not Obama's fault. The GOP owns the derailing of their party, the poor campaigns they've run, the poor choices they've made, and every loss they've suffered.
Anyway, this is an article from two years ago but I thought it interesting to see how telling it was and compare it with events since it was written. Anyone seriously think things have improved at all since then?
Nine Ways Republicans Are Ruining the Country
By , BuzzFlash. Posted August 17, 2006.
Republicans are unimaginably bad on national security. Say it loud, say it often, it's the truth.
Say it loud, say it often, "Republicans are bad on national security." Every Democrat running for national office -- and local offices too, why not? -- should say, "I'm running because Republicans are bad on national security."
Then they should go on to say, here's why I'm saying it:
1. 9/11 happened on their watch. Of course, we can't say, absolutely, that it would not have happened if they had not been asleep at the wheel. But we can say that they did not do all they could have done to prevent it. We can say that Bush literally pushed away the warnings.
2. George Bush and the Republicans failed to get Osama bin Laden. We got both Hitler and Hirohito in less time than we've been chasing bin Laden. Every day that bin Laden's out there, he's proof that you can attack the United States and get away with it. That's a bad message to send, and believe me, people in the terrorist world have heard it loud and clear. That's very bad for national security.
3. George Bush and the Republicans gave Osama bin Laden what he wanted. Bin Laden wanted the US to get into a quagmire. He wanted our troops tied down in an Islamic country so that an insurgency could do to them what the Afghanis did to the Russians and to the British before them.
A modern, hi-tech army is very good at invasions. It's also good for fighting back against other armies. But a modern hi-tech army is not good at occupying a country against the will of the population. Even if the army is as violent and ruthless as the Soviet occupiers of Afghanistan were.
4. George Bush and the Republicans squandered America's power and prestige. Before 9/11 most people in the world probably thought that America's intelligence services were able and astute, agencies to be feared. The Bush administration has made them appear bumbling and inept. They did this, first, by ignoring their warnings and then, second, by making them the fall guys for 9/11.
After 9/11 most of the world feared America's wrath and America's might. By failing to get bin Laden and his gang, then by attacking the wrong country, unleashing chaos, and getting our armed forces into a situation that they can't win, the administration showed the world they have less to fear than they imagined.
5. The Bush administration empowered Hezbollah. The 'insurgency' in Iraq was Hezbollah's textbook and their inspiration. If Iraqis could do that to Americans, surely they could do the same to the Israelis. And they have. It's not yet on the record, but it's clear from everyone's conduct, that the administration encouraged the Israelis to 'unleash' their forces against Hezbollah. They probably thought Israel's modern hi-tech armies would quickly smash their enemy.
6. The Bush administration radicalized Hamas. Hamas was elected. Sworn to the destruction of Israel or not, they should have been encouraged to become responsible players with carrots as well as sticks. Instead the administration put them up against the wall, hoping to starve the Palestinian people into voting for a different group. Would that work if someone tried to do it to us?
7. Bush and the Republicans tied down our forces in Iraq while Iran and North Korea invested in nuclear technology. That made North Korea feel secure enough to test ICBMs. If they had been successful, they would have had a delivery system for their nuclear weapons. That would be incredibly bad for national security. Iran, with American forces tied down in Iraq, feels secure enough to defy the UN as well as the US. Very bad for national security.
8. By the way, every major European nation has had successful arrests and real trials of real, dangerous terrorists. People on the level of this group that the British just took down. The most ferocious terrorist arrested in the United States since 9/11 has been the shoe bomber. Ten, twenty, forty, a hundred billion dollars, a trillion dollars, and the best we have to show for it is the shoe bomber?! Republicans are bad on national security.
9. We have trashed the bill of rights. We have trashed the Geneva conventions. We have a president and a vice president willing to go the mat to fight for the right to torture people.
We have spent a fortune on illegal wiretaps.
We have spent a fortune on collecting everyone's telephone data.
And what have we achieved by all of this?
A quagmire in Iraq. Dishonor. Debts. An empowered al Qaeda. A new war in Lebanon. The inability to stand up to Iran and North Korea. Osama bin Laden at large, an inspiration to extremists everywhere.
Republicans are unimaginably bad on national security. Say it loud. Say it often, it's the truth, Republicans are bad on national security.

Competition is a good thing, the best thing really for the republican party is to have to really take a look at itself and make some changes. I believe they have to and will do that. Personally, I think the vein runs deeeper than that.
It isn't about partisan bias, it's about facts and/or regurgitation of mistruths. I'll let you decide which party I think represents each respective categorization.
Competition is good, yet competance is also a good thing.
When the best thing the right wing had to offer wound up being a trigger happy, degenerated old guy and a bimbo, ninkomwhit veep, the contest took on different parameters. Clearly, .........C-L-E-A-R-L-Y ........we can do better than that. The fact that a magna cum laude Harvard "Law School Grad", with lite-skin black color, managed to emerge, is notwithstanding. There really wasn't a contest, as such, merely a transition of power from the true elitist, back to the people. 68% of the vote; they call that landslide.
The election of Obama is the death of the Republican party? Actually, it's really not a matter of Obama, per se. Yet, I'm amused how so many republicans tend to do the serenade about Obama. Sean Hannity is the only living person I've EVER qheard refer to Obama as "The Messiah" if that tells a person ANYTHING!!! Quite matter-of-factly, in 2006, it really wasn't a matter of which party would be in the Oval Office, it was a question of who. A magna Cum Laude Harvard Law School President emerged onto the political forefront, matched up with a lipstick-wearing hockey mom and a loose cannon, naval academy grad. The only reason MCCain even finished the academy was his high brass naval dad and granddad, that is, when the truth be known. No, the death of the republican party is much MUCH........ FARTHER reaching than Obama, himself. No, it's about values, morals, decision making, the vast undertaking to divide classes of people into haves and have-nots, the desire to use fascist, strong-arm governmental approach. Finally, the people have spoken and the time for change has not only come, it's overdue.
We passed a socialist bailout package Right, the one used to bail out the rich executive's on wall street, those amongst the highest earning companies in the world? Right. And uhm...... which side of the political fence are the uber-wealthy generally on? MMMMHHHMM.... Yep. Republican. Absolutely. So, really, is it a matter of which party is socialist, or which party is fascist? Hmmm. That's definately food for thought, although I'm guessing I'm already of an opinion as to who's earned "which" title. Taxation, in general, is a form of socialism, as well as a redistributing of wealth. It's a basic fundamental in society. Period. The only question is, where is the bulk of that taxation going to occur in a society. The middle class spoke about this recently and decided it was no longer going to be coming from them, that the wealthy need pay more. Nuff said, and I agree. Whether your a Warren Buffet or just an average Joe, that redistributing of wealth is highly important for economic times, and in war-(occupation) time, it;'s ever so critical.
We passed a socialist bailout package, ........to which, Paulsen has completely done a 180 on....... Statistically, if we took that 700 Billion for the bailout, and distributed it among the people, every adult middle class citizen would get 172,000. Imagine how much THAT..... would stimulate the economy.
So far, the Dow Jones has dropped 2100 points since Obama was elected. It is down 19% in just the last month since Barack Obama was elected President, yet he's had nothing to say about it. When he fails to turn the economy around fast enough, the voters will realize thier mistake and turn on him too. Not even sworn into office, hasn't even finalized his cabinet, but somehow Obama's responsible for the dropping Dow (slash) economy. Now isn't that a cute idea. Ya'll don't mind if he takes office before you start critcizing the mans performance, right? LOL I do laugh at the mentality associated with that mindthought, though. IS that conservatism? If so, I'll take liberalism a-n-y-d-a-y.
Something tells me republicanism is doing more than straw crasping.

I think you made a mistake with the math there. The population of the united states is 300 million, which means each person would have been paid about 2000 dollars. Unless you're saying only 1% of the population is adult middle class...

The population of the united states is 300 million, Actually, I said every adult middle class .....not every person in the US. Take away the illegal immigrants, work/student visa holders, retirees/elderly, children, college students, or those making over $250K, and the number of recipients shrinks considerably.
|
| How Bad is it for Republicans? Posted: 11/26/2008 7:36:49 PM | | I know this is off topic, but I actually agree with Mane on this (that they should have just given it to the adult middle class). I also heard somewhere that if the government would have just bought up all the bad debt included in the "package" and gave it free and clear to the people responsible for it, it would have only cost about 300 billion. Wouldn't that have bailed everyone out too? Except those greedy b**tard CEOs who are going to end pocketing a huge percentage of it as it stands now. | |
|
| How Bad is it for Republicans? Posted: 11/26/2008 7:42:53 PM | I have long told people that capitalism and the republican party will eat themselves. Whelp, seems like the time has come. Now the people who have been waiting for change need to embody it go into overdrive and get things done that make life better for all instead of a small group of good ole boys.
A new day is dawning and the future looks bright. *Puts on his shades.*

Tsk... Tsk... You can't go crying foul against the people on your own side. As soon as people start being objective to all sides nobody will feel free to rant... and then what comes next? Joining hands in a circle and singing kumbiya?
Or are there not enough conservatives left here to beat up on? I would guess there's still a few out here still paying attention... and biding our time.

Heh, I point out these sorts of things all the time, for either side, the left has enough factual basis for it's arguments I don't want to see us indulge in the "truthiness" we see so often from across the aisle.

When have they ever done any different? This is par for the course.
I've learned to simply overlook the followers of Obama and realize that they do not in any way represent Obama. Frankly, Obama would be ashamed of many of them if he were able to be aware of their behavior.
Thankfully, Obama is much more rational and I think more willing to attempt to appeal to all for the sake of the country -- at least this appears to be the tack he's attempting to take at the moment.

Happy and relieved that I can agree with you 100%, Lass --
Due to announcements O made in press conferences this last week, it really does look like he might be a good uniter after all.
It now appears that most Americans -- who voted for ALL candidates, and both parties -- are actually center right.
Also agree with you in hoping see to ALL candidates who wish to end partisan fighting, (and respond to the will of the PEOPLE off this country) elected in upcoming races.

The title of the thread is not how bad things are for the Republican party, it's targeting republicans, and the posts are not pointed at the party, they are pointed at individuals. You can gloss it over as humor, but in my opinion it's divisive and mean spirited, and not in keeping with the agenda of our new president.
