Hmmmmm let me guess, they've never travelled outside of greater Vancouver, they've never tried Thai, Indian, Vietnamese or Malaysia or gone to see a foreign film...go figure.......I find it ignorant and uncultured as i myself date whomever I fancy...good!!! let US have the best of everything :)

And on the topic of Chilliwack... uhm.. I live here, and I see alot of interracial dating/marriages... It's true.. I seen it wit my own two I's...
As for myself.. I've dated the woman I met who've interested me.. pigment of skin has never been an issue for me.. If the lady I meet is purple but we enjoy each other's company.. what else is there....

and I have heard it with my own two ears how 'polite' people can be... behind closed doors and behind peoples backs.....I'm just saying I do not hear the racist comments when I am in the city (as much)...hmmmmm does education have anything to do with it?

All I am saying is that in Asian culture the man and woman work as a team and I really mean it. There is more devotion to the marriage or relationship.
Hey Pisces, this is the same culture where the men spend more time with their male buddies drinking, smoking opium and fondling each other than with their wives. Give me a western women with an attitude anyday over that freak show.
LotusFlowr: Being that I grew up out in the valley, I am speaking from experience....It doesn't matter the color of your skin....we are gonna make fun of you, talk behind your back (or front) and laugh like crazy about it. Thats just the way we roll out here. You metion Abbotsford and Chilliwack as racial hotbeds when in reality they are the two most racially diverse communtities in the lower mainland. Just because we are east of the Port Mann doesn't mean we don't know where the airport is. I've travelled alot but always come home to the valley. People are real here.

I apologize if I gave you the impression that my "knickers" are in a knot.....not so. I was just defending us poor dumb rednecks and what we call home. My light hearted poke about making fun of people was actually pointing out that we (and I am only talking from my experiences and friends) treat every one equally. To us, it's not a hot topic but more like a dead horse. Keep beating it if you want.
I personally am all for interracial, interspecie or even intergalactical dating. Heck, my belief in individuality and personal freedom definitley helps me be a champion to that cause. But that belief also keeps me from standing by when someone "generalizes" blatant derogatory statements at a culture and lifestyle they dislike.
As for the comment about Chilliwack still being "the sticks" .....god willing, it will always be that way. The 'Wack is beautiful just the way it is (don't go changing baby, I love you just the way you are). | |
