Hi there, Happy Valentines Day....

Just thought that this was appropriate.....I appreciate and thank all my friends that have been around to read my rambles and to be a constant source of support for my writings and wonderful friends to help fill my days....

Here in the barn I have grown as a person and writer and have had many laughs and for this I am ever grateful to Goat,Breathing,Rory,Kobold(where ever he may be),Mari,Pickles,Longte,Charming(absent as her new role of mom takes over),these are just to mention a few of the regulars that I have dealt with for some time now....

All of you are very unigue individuals who have added something special to my life, each of you have inspired me in one way or another poetically and in my day to day life.

Strength, happiness, laughter, love, friendship have all come out of this barn...

Thanks everyone....

Simple Pleasures.....
I long to see the sun rise
And the sun set
To remember fondly
The many people I have met

I long to hear the birds sing
Their joyous songs
To feel the warmth of the sun
On my face all day long

I long to smile so freely
At the simplest things
Like the wondrous sound
Of the church bells that ring

I long to have my heart feel
Love given back again
To be welcomed into open arms
To feel like life has just begun

I long to see the smile
Of my newborn son
Feel his gentle hand in mine
Relaying I am the needed one

I long for simple pleasures
To have again once more
But memories are what I must keep
As I enter heavens door

Simple pleasures I once had
Not realizing their worth to me
Having them lost and taken away
Was the only way I could see

While you can try to enjoy
The simple things in life to see
These make the fond memories
That with you always will be……

Hello all. Good to see you here in this ol' barn.

Hello DragonN...you can take a raincheck on the disturbingly moist kisses and wait for a "drier day" or at least a "phlegm free" day. The rainchecks are redeemable only for Sundays after the sermons. Good to see you here in this space, eh?

Om...excellent little ditty there. I laughed right along with Pickles (hello Pickles!)...the best line I ever read: "cut part of a fart". Heh heh. Well done and thank you for bringing that to the barn.

(Hello again to Pickles!)

Hello Miz...thank you for the kind words. You too have inspired me, as have all the others that frequent this barn, to keep going with teh daily poem for almost two years now. It's funny...if we truly considered what effects we have on the people we interact with (in any capacity) I think we'd naturally become more compassionate and more thoughtful with our words and actions. This barn is the most compasisonate place I know of, thanks to people like you. Thank you for the poem.

And Breathing...lovely Breathing. If there is art to lazing around, you have captured it and framed it already. You artful critter, you.

Okay...a poem. Let's try something spontaneous again:

====================================

Weapons of Mass Distraction

It’s a humble device
Sitting quietly on the desk
A space reserved just for it

Power flows through it
Fans hum
Air moves
Circuits spark
Data joins the gentle breeze
Mixes with time itself

It’s a time-sponge this thing
And the one at work
The monitor draws my eyes
They forget to blink
Gummy and sticky
I dare to lick the screen clean

But, it’s all me
And my time that gets slurped in
Like sewage into a sump pump

Spewed out the end of another day

=====================================

Well, that weren't the best -- but it'll do for tonight. The showers await and the pull of another day at work compels me to move to sleep soon.

When I dream, I dream of a Mighty Buffet -- even the salad bar is three miles long.

Okay...see youse tomorrow, eh?

Lurk lurk lurk

""I dream of a Mighty Buffet""

Uh Oh
Got the taste buds going Goat
..
.

May I greet you one and all
invite you to the banquet hall
there to set your tastebuds free
into gastonomic ecstasy

over here theres nothing less
than curried shrimp, for they weren't fresh
and chunky bits of rarest meat
it didn't bark this week at least
in fact I think it went meaow
perhaps its a new type of cow

the salads are the latest type
surrounded by the utmost hype
bitter as a lawyers kiss
those you can't afford to miss
and mushrooms well we have those too
just avoid the ones with tinge of blue

potato salad on the side
it will see you through the night
and surely stick inside like glue
when you go out to the loo
but if you really want a special dish
try this one; we think its fish

we believe that eating should be fun
don't worry if you get the runs
or just a hint of trichinosis
there to fuel your psychosis
since we know you're lovely fellas
we specialise in salmonella

Good day all yee lurkers and posters .....

Longte ... Hmmm, sounds yummy - - I think me must pass on the item resembling "Fish"

Today is Valentine’s Day, the day to tell your sweetie how you feel. I believe every day should be a celebration of love and life. Having said that, there is only one Valentine for me – - Sweet Goatsmell - - Time spent with you is an honour, Thank you. ;-)

~~

Feb 14th 270 A.D

One man’s history
Of a quiet death
Etched in stone

Saintly wings
Falling angles
An arrow to a bishop’s heart

Legend tells of a simple man
Beheaded
For secretly marrying young souls

A celebration of love
Cards and poems
Sent in his honour

A patron Saint
St. Valentinus
Buried along the Via Flaminia

His heart rests silent
His memory
Alive in the mystery

~~

Get out there and make the day great
Then tomorrow,
Do the same again...
No need to wait for those "special" days

Red roses and their sweet perfume
Breathing in the scent of June
A treat to have in Midwinter
We are simply grateful for
Love that surrounds us in every way

DragonN, Ticket ((((( )))))) to you both

Hello all. Happy V-Day to all and especially to the barn-dwellers.

Hi Pickles! Good to see you here!

Breathing dear...another skillful (and timely) poem. Thank you so much. Luv yer too, m'dear.

And what do I have tonight?

============================

V-Day Poeticals

Flowers and chocolates
Poetry by the riverside
But that river is frozen over
And the chocolate and flowers
Were eaten on the way home
A few stems and an empty box remains

But
There is this card
Sealed with spit, written on
With a Jiffy Marker

Put it up on the mantle
A place of pride
We'll wait until the weather's better
To take it all outside

===========================

Okay...my computer's broken and needs some fixin. Thank goodness Breathing's PC is running fine. See youse tomorrow, eh?

Hugs to all. Aside from Valentine's Day, today is also my one-year anniversary for joining POF. Married to the forums, you might say. Ha. Of all the threads I've participated in, this is by far the most meaningful one.

Valentine's Day, obviously, is about spreading smooches and good cheer, even if there's not a special Love in one's life at the time. But for those in the latter category, myself included, it's also a day for reflecting on times WITH a Love, and for what the whole enterprise means.

I wrote this today, inspired by a ladyfriend's similar sentiments.

VALENTINE'S DAY NOSTALGIA

I, too, have felt the calm and habitual ease
Of sitting at home, watching the sun set, while reflecting
On others' plight, lovers fighting and trying to appease,
One phrase spun for hours, with smallest details objecting.

At times like that, it seems love is just a malicious disease.
Better off to hide one's heart, or to give it to collecting
Stamps on Friday nights, or to watch on TV artists on trapeze,
The man and woman sailing through air in beauty, forms dissecting

While the safe ones in seats below applaud, but secretly wish
The pair would fall, thus bearing them better on the same flatted plane,
Lovers perhaps, but also swimming through stagnant pools, fish
With hearts encased in cages, happy-dull but a little insane

With denied longing, like a gourmand neglecting a tasty dish,
Reformed or wary, there'll always be another gain
Though the years pile up, and we eventually find our niche
In other diversions, pleasing perhaps, but with a nagging pain.

Good afternoon folk...

A special howdy to you, Pickles !!
Rory - - You have a way with words, my friend
Om - - Good to see you and your thoughts here..

...A hug for the goat and his thoughtful poeticals...

These words kept me company during work today...

~~

The Manoeuvre

I saw two starlings
coming in toward the wires.
But at last,
just before alighting, they

turned in the air together
and landed backwards!
That’s what got me – to
face into the wind’s teeth

“William Carlos Williams”

~~
Every day is a day to be celebrated...
~~

Hearts frozen in time
With gentle hands
The sun begins to thaw
Feelings once hidden

One woman
One man

Eyes locked in silence
With Each movement
Walls begin to fade
Emotions no longer forbidden

high cirrus clouds...a bright yellow moon rising above the trees....
pine trees...a whole stand at the back of the lot..(if you can call a line a stand...but I prefer to think of it that way)...hiding all the houses that lie beyond...
memories of childhood...time spent in the woods....living in the country...
smiles on the faces.......
steam rising from the water..... cool air....nighttime sounds...
glasses filled with ice, diet coke...and a generous helpings of Jack...
the sound of steaks sizzling on the grill....
smells of the night...steak...potatoe...spinich salad...
moths flying through the air.....
the sounds of the grandfather clock...marking off each quarter hour....
holding hands that fit just right......

In the spirit of madness and the Winter Games
For some life will never be the same...........
Legs that are splayed at very high speed
Usually means a totally fu*cked knee
Rocketing down tunnels of ice
On a piece of plastic is not very nice
Especially when you over steer
And suddenly you are flying through the air
Toe loops and Sulkos and quad jumps
Ankles that hurt, bruises and bumps
Hurtling downwards on long planks of plastic
Ski jumpers are quite fantastic
Like sky diving believing you can fly
Seems like a certain way to die
Pusuits in winter are usually linked
To dangerous pistes or slippery rinks
Me, I avoid these winter sports
Prefer to watch on TV...of course.

Go Canada

Hello all. Good to see you all in the olde barne tonight.

Hi Rory...A year of POF? Are congratulations acceptable, or is it a rather sombre event? Aw, heck...I'm glad you got here, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to read your poetry. And yesterday's poem is no exception to your usual talent. V-Day is an odd not-really-holiday...seems to be more for buying chocolates, flowers and cards. Still prefer the poetry, provided it isn't too mushy.

Greetings, Mighty Om...I like that one. The ones that have fewer lines and say much mean more to me than the self-indulgent pablum that seems to be "norm" of poetry. You said much with few words...actually a lot of the best poetry I've read is in here and in a few good threads. I must be getting old and crotchety, but breakup and unrequited love poems are really starting to pick my butt lately.

Er...sorry about that...I was reading through the forums lately and saw some of the poetry laying around. Gergh.

Hello to DragonN...saw you in there. Breathing says hello back to you and she'll likely say that herself in a leetle bit.

And speaking of Breathing...hello there, dear. Every day is a day to be celebrated. I'm going to bed early tonight in celebration of this day.

Hello to Sukari...I can hear the steaks and smell the spinach as well. Your words are spare but laden with visions, sounds and smells. So good to have you here in the barn tonight, my friend.

Gracious Pickles...good to see you here as well. Breathing and I have been avoiding the Olympics and have chosen to get geared up for the 2006 World Cup by watching the taped games I have from the 2002 Cup. I prefer to watch the sport of my choice rather than play it as well...it'd be too hard on my pudgy body. Love the poem and love having you here.

Okay...in a moment or two...a poem! Stay tuned....

Let's test the the POF auto-censor tonight. I was reading a bit in Black Mary's thread and was suitably inspired:

=======================

An Aromatic Censor

Oh, the POF auto-censor is a funny thing
It can suck the life from poetry; cease it to sing

F'r instance...

A rooster can't be called a****
Though you can't slip it in your sock

A female dog can never be called a ****
That would make the auto-censor itch

Every penile mention is blocked without fail
It even takes the phallus out of****ail

You can't****a gun, not even for fun
And you can't be rude without that**** attitude

The rude form of coitus, it cannot conduct
But, with words like "hump" or "poke", who gives a ****?

========================================

Let's see how this looks after it gets posted...

Heh heh...

G'night!

Ha ha, Goat !

A TALE OF DICKENS CIDER

I read an advertisement the other day,
One which caused a double-take, for a few I'd say.

Now cider's not really my thing, I find,
But after reading this ad I've changed my mind.

The message was thus, in letters on the guide: er ....
"Just think how good you'll feel with a 'Dickens Cider !' ".
