| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/24/2005 8:08:12 PM | Heh heh...loved Tera's Barnyard Friends poem. I do love to puke, especially on exhibition rides. Just because everyone gets splashed. Heh heh.
Ah...you guys...you're all great. Each of you has a distinct style and manner, I can pick out who wrote the poems even before seeing who posted them. You're all keeping true to yourselves and that's the way it oughtta be. I ain't good at what I do, but I am honest about it.
Bless your hearts, my friends. You keep me coming back here, even after 300 days.
And what do I have here? I just dug it out of my ear. It looks kinda queer and it don't taste like beer:
=================================
The First Long Weekend Since New Year’s
Leisure time is a strange concept I think tomorrow I’ll be up at seven And half-dressed Before I realize Work is not there today The building’s there, alright But we have the day off
Will I wonder this after a mouthful of Cheerios? Or while I’m trying to build my lunch? Or perhaps trying to dress In one large, exhausting motion?
I sure hope I sleep in Dreaming of eating ribs Licking my fingers Waking up with an urge For Bull’s Eye barbeque sauce
================================
I dropped one! Someone get the shovel! No, I'm not gonna put a grocery bag on my hand and try to pick it up. That's too much heat and corn to hang onto...get a grain shovel or something...
I'm going to roam around a bit before I turn in. Later, eh?

|
| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/24/2005 8:19:10 PM | Geddout! I thought it was dead and buried!
Thanks, Agent...I'll see how it's doing...

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/24/2005 9:54:49 PM | Don't know where this one came from.
Bat
As the stars shimmer in the night sky, I lie in the grass looking upward, The night song of crickets nearby, And all about me the wings fluttered.
They are the hunters of the night, And on flying insects they feed, Winged creatures without sight, They fly with such skill and speed.
Many a myth surround the bat, Many a legend and folklore, Sometimes described as flying rat, But to the bat there is so much more.
Across the night skies they dart, Throughout all the nations, As their feeding habits do heavily thwart, The rise of insect populations.
They are a part of our art and literature, They are a part of our written history, And it’s very probable they’ll be in our future, So your respect for them should be more than paltry.
Yes I love my winged creatures, In the night shadows they fly, With their nightmarish features, Only more to folklore supply.

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/24/2005 10:12:58 PM | I am wondering if I should go on I don't know if it's worthwhile carrying on with this charade you made me cry, made me want to die The kisses are just a band aid
This love has gone sour Each and every hour I am with you, poisons me Don't know what to do It's a bad habit, loving you
The crunch of your fist on my face, The separation of time, place Your pleas...Your promise, I won't do it again I believed you once, but time again You broke it.
Bruises, so livid, fade But the memory of that fist never goes away I live in fear that you will find me I strive to sever the ties that bind me To you To you To you
What shall I do??????? | |

The Faceless Stranger...
Into the mirror I gaze.....a stranger staring back at me Who is this masked person?....Why can’t I truly see?
The person that lies within....behind the mask Finding that true self....has been a demeaning task
Faceless person in the mirror....haunting me Help me to find.....help me to see
Please help me find....my true self The one I have placed....so long ago upon the shelf
I placed my self upon the shelf....my heart and soul went to Not knowing how else to live....what else to do
I always felt worthless....like everything was my fault Began to keep feelings inside....my emotions in a vault
The faceless person in the mirror....is crying silently inside No longer wanting to go on this way...no longer wanting to hide
Help me see help me feel....help me open loves door Free my soul and my heart....so I can be with a face once more…..

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/25/2005 4:05:40 PM | Hi, everyone. Enjoyable reads. Not much time now, just setting a couple down:
MacKENZIE HEIGHTS
Brought up suddenly by this city panorama-- bowl of green with ant cars scrabbling silently among lazy-waving cypresses-- I will soon see the purple curtain of twilight drop thoughts like a narcotic on this affluent hill, superior with its cold citizens and closed doors. I descend the hill, recognize pain in the gaits and glances of those I pass, as they rush to the end of their clean street neatly tapered as a coffin.
Here's one by Canadian poet Raymond Souster:
TIES
New ties, fifteen each, ten for a dollar, he said, holding them up in bunches of five for us to see; and they did look new, like good ties, cheap at double the price. But we didn't buy any: I because I had only a dime left for a beer, the others-- well, they'd been stung too many times before, bargains not bargains, and once stung twice shy, or something like that. The same as marriage or joining the army they might have said, joking, but not really joking so much as telling a fact, an essential fact of their lives: nothing wonderful, or in their favour ever liable to happen. Life like these ties passed in front of us, difficult to judge, uncertain, open to the greatest suspicion, a jungle of dark-twisting lies.

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/25/2005 5:01:50 PM | Howdy all. It's Good Friday and you know what that means? Yup, some semi-timely poetry...like this:
================================
Jesus and the Easter Bunny
The day had come when the two did meet Each stopped, paused and took a seat They watched each other with caution and care The Rabbit had chocolate -- of this, Jesus was aware
Cautious, the Rabbit held out an egg His forgiveness he did beg And he placed it in His Holy Palm An Easter Creme Egg -- that potent sugar-chocolate bomb
Our Lord had one and then another Loving the Rabbit as a Brother They talked all day as if they were old friends But, as sure as chocolate is eaten, the day did end
Pausing, Jesus saw He made a mess He did not need to confess His blood well-sugared and His mind a whir He asked of the Rabbit: "Does anything stick in your fur?"
The Rabbit spake thus: "Not a thing does." Jesus smiled through the sugar buzz And He wiped His hands on him with great cheer Jesus spake: "That was some good. I'll see you again next year."
The Rabbit frowned, feeling out of sorts Melted mess in his shorts "Next year I'll bring Him some different stuff Instead of Creme Eggs, it will be my freshly-squeezed Cocoa Puffs."
==============================================
I used to have rabbits when I was a kid and it always amazed me that rabbit sh*tis the same shape and size that Cocoa Puffs are. They sure don't taste like Cocoa Puffs, though. Not even close.
Alrighty...I'll come back in a leeeeetttle while.

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/25/2005 7:14:28 PM | Hello there again, ya'll. I's been doing some readin and I likes what I sees.
Sukari...I'll bet the tourists are crowding your little island down there. We get a few tourists here, but not a lot and there's plenty of room for them. Missed ya and I'm glad you came on by to this here barn.
Miz...again, you are an inspiration and you're really getting noticed around the poetry forums (and for good reason, I might add). Thanks for your words. You know, I'm having far too much fun to change...so I likely won't. The "Jesus and the Easter Bunny" poem was really a labour of laughing love. I was going to write a ruder version, but the rhymes weren't working. Darn, huh?
Pickles...any poem that starts off with "pustulent" has my immediate attention. You're pretty cool and you have a fine relationship with the written word. I used to be on a first-name basis with the written word, but I pissed them off and they won't write back.
Agent...been reading your stuff as well. Dang, but you're good. Real good.
Rory...man, you have class. I really have nothing to say that I haven't said already....but between you, Longte, Miz and Kobold -- you're going to put the property value on this place through the roof. Unless I bring it down, that is.
Oh, yes..tomorrow's poem just may turn this place into a slum. Heh heh heh...
(erHUM -- sorry)
Well, g'night you guys. Take care and I'll be back here tomorrow sometime.

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/25/2005 7:19:22 PM | Is'nt it EXCITING..... Easter Bunny comes today Already heard the rumours that he's on his way
I'll just wait right here for him until he comes along Leaving little eggs behind and singing rabbit songs
I'm sure he'll be surprized to find me waiting here But I can take away from him his worries and his cares
I might give him a Cuddle.... If thats what it takes He's such a Lovely rabbit.... I'm a hungry snake
Can only TOTALLY agree with you Sukari My little town grows from 50,000 to over 150,000 this long weekend
We tend to just hibernate for a few days

| A Barn By Any Other Name... Posted: 3/25/2005 7:40:15 PM | Some excellent writes in here. Jesus and the Easter bunny-funny! Good job eeryone. I don't have anything tonight-can't seem to think straight. Have had a serious bout of insomnia lately too. Think it's just side effects of the narcs I'm on. Had oral surgery couple days ago. But anyway, perhaps I'll have something in a couple days once this passes.

I hope you feel better Tera.
Speaking of coherant-lol
Thought(Or Lack Thereof)
Drug induced coma, I can’t seem to think, No matter how hard I try, into the darkness I shrink.
My mind is not functioning, the way that it normally would, Making any attempts to write a poem, not very good.
But I need to write, my ideas I need to let flow, And even if erratic, they are my minds precious cargo.
For I can think of no greater fear, no greater sin, Than not being able to express myself, to hold it all in.
I’m truly in love with the written word, literature as a form of art, The way that these ideas and emotions, can all flow from ones heart.
And flow the words must, for I need them to live, And as long as they do, of myself I’ll freely give.
