Posted: 9/4/2008 5:03:28 PM | Hello, all! I haven't been on in a few days, but got a text from a good buddy on here that I should-- OMG! I am overwhelmed by the support I feel from this group. It's not really the first time he has "left the nest"-- did 2 yrs college, then threw the "joining the military" thing on me. Moved his things home, and is getting ready to leave again, but it's different this time. I am humbled by his motivation to serve. It is a noble thing these men and women do, and I am in full support of each one. It's just that the emotional thing gets to me. I ws surprised by his decision, as we have lost friends already there as all have. I thought he would have felt fear, but it instead inspired him in some way. He lost a former classmate last year, and was devastated but I am proud of him for wanting, needing to serve. I completely support his decision although I still worry. Please don't get the wrong idea-- I know I'm not the only one in this situation, and I'm ashamed that I might portray that. There are millions of parents and other family members in the same boat, and I wish everyone the best. Regardless of one's politics, opinions change when it becomes personal. So, I will let him have Sat. nite w his friends/girl...and have him on Sunday. Thanks to all for the msgs, and I pray that God will bring them all home quickly and safely...SOON!

Posted: 9/4/2008 7:42:51 PM | Just got through discussing this w my kid-- we will leave from home (Lake Conroe area) around noon that Sun the 14th, so I will not get a room Sat nite since Im only about 40 minutes from there. Don't plan to be too inebriated to get home, but can "sleep it off" a bit in the truck before driving if I need to. LOL! Doubt that will happen but from this forum I have learned sleeping in the back of pickups might be popular... (just kidding). Never done it myself, but I guess i could! As long as Im here to pack him up (tears) I'm good...and looking forward to a good time. Still feel like I should be here, but I am deferring to his wishes-- leaving my house, hot tub, pool, and gameroom to him...and his peeps. I am making a vow to not cry again until I am on the way home after leaving him. I'll be alone, so I can cry all I want.
By the way-- I forget right now who said something about ribbons for military parents/supporters, but I'm all for it, and will wear one and help buy any. Since i resigned myself to his decision, and I'm being supportive, I've worn an "Army Strong, Go Army" bracelet since April. (Doesn't match a thing I have, but i dont care!)
As for nametags-- I bet anyone in there that ever sees me on here can spot me fast-- I bet you are all probably the same way too.

Yes there is a pre-party at the motel 6 were alot of us are staying.. i beleive its going to be at the pool outside. and just take it from there!!
Oh forgot to mention everyone. I will be the one there in the purple cast on leg.. Yes i broke my ankle getting a pasta bowl down. I used to barrel race and was getting pasta bowl down from top shelf and landed the wrong and and snap it broke!!

P.S.--- if anyone wants to stay at hotel but doenst have the money. i have a room reserved that has 2 double bed in it.. if you want to pay for half!!
Cant wait to meet everyone and have some fun!! we should make this a monthly adventure at different places..

Question is...do we want the peel-n-stick or clip style? Or if there is a way to email all that have signed up, perhaps we can tell everyone to bring his/her own. May get some very creative results! LOL
I like the military parent/supporter ribbon idea as well!
I'll be heading down from Huntsville that day unless I can get my sister to tag along, then I'll be coming from Houston. Don't drink much, so if someone needs a designated driver, I'll help out. | |

Posted: 9/5/2008 12:15:49 PM | | it just keeps growin and growin and growin.......man what a shindig this is gonna be. i saw someone said somethin about the check in time at the hotel , well no worries on that . if anyone gets there to check in and thier room is not quite ready or anything then they are more than welcome to hang out in my suite until thier room is ready. thats a big part of the reason i rented such a huge room is to help out with any small inconvienences. also , if you are going to be staying at the hotel please send either Ziggylinn or myself a message and let us know please, that way we can help out with anything else you might need while your there such as restaurants or other things you ight want or need | |

Posted: 9/5/2008 1:08:00 PM | | hey gang , I also wanted to add that if you are gonna be gettin a room for the party and you want to be in the same area of the hotel be sure to tell them or when you make your online reservation to put in the comments section that you are with the pof group and they will do thier best to put you on the same end of the motel with the rest of us. I just talked to ziggy and we are both just kinnd of over whelmed at the response and support to this party, we never imagined that it would draw the attention of so many people ready to get together in pof style and meet and make new friends as well as have the fun we are all gonna have. hopefully this will just be the beginning of getting the houston area into having more parties in the future. | |
