Posted: 10/5/2008 12:26:52 AM | | ALMOST EVERYONE-men, women, kids, dogs, etc-thinks blondes are more interesting...which is why so many women dye their hair blonde, or wear blonde wigs. A few guys prefer a redhead, or a brunette, and even fewer guys don't care about hair color at all. Most people like to be noticed. Women: wear 'in' hair styles, wear high fashions, don make up, date millionaires, etc, to get noticed. Guys hang blondes on their arms , or drive sports cars, or both, to get noticed. I do room checks when I enter places...but I am not looking for blondes. I am checking for potential trouble: drunks, stoners, people packing concealed weapons, fights about to start, gang members, paparazzi, celebs, etc. The blonde thing is a self fullfilling thing. Women go blonde-with dye, or wigs-and then act hot...like they were wearing a mask. That convinces guys that blondes are hot, so guys seek out blondes. Women see that guys like blondes, so they go blonde, and act hot. That convinces guys that blondes are hot; so guys seek blondes, which...etc, etc ad infinitum. Women who don't like the 'blondes are hot' thing have only themselves, and their sisters, to blame for starting it by posing as blondes. Of the famous blondes-Britney, Madonna, Dolly, etc-99.9% are NOT real blondes. They are dye/wig jobs. Complain to the hot pretend blondes rather than to the guys who want them. | |

Blondes have always been found more attractive because they are more exotic. Blonde hair and blue eyed is so rare in natural genetics. You have to have recessive genes for both traits. Which means you basically need your mom and dad to have blonde hair and blue eyes to ensure that the child has them too. Due to their rarity in society, just like supply and demand, they become more attractive. They are innately more exotic.
So do men think blondes are more attractive. For the most part ... YES. Cause its in our genes. "

My mother had dark brown hair, brown eyes and olive skin. My father was blond as a child and light brown with blue eyes as an adult. I had reddish hair until 2 then white blond until 7ish and finally- golden blond :) with blue/green/gray eyes that change colors.
Whatever that means?
There is a LOT of blond bashing on this thread- always seems to be when this topic is brought up! What I have heard from most men is that it doesn't matter the color of hair but that they are often attracted to NICE hair- which is rare. Soft, silky, well-maintained and usually long. So much out there is over-processed, dry, stringy, thin, has a lot of split ends, frizzy, greasy, out-of-date and so on.

Posted: 10/5/2008 5:14:40 AM | Most of the men I know claim they dont find any one hair color more attractive than another...but funny how they will automatically rubber neck if a stylish blond walks in the room...she can have a face looking like a mac truck hit it, and she'll still get a 2nd look because she is blonde....There is something to this...they just stand out it seems.
A friend of mine who is naturally dark haired has been dying it blond for over 20 years...she is used to being a blonde. For her birthday, she treated herself to a brunette color, went back to her roots. She looked stunning! But, she found she did not get as much attention being brunette. Doors were not held open as often, and she did not recieve as many obvious looks being brunette...so there is something to the 'blond' thing for sure.
I used to be jealous of my blonde friends and only in the last few years have I felt my hair color was attractive. As a young girl I did not see many brunette sex symbols. These days, they are everywhere. | |

Posted: 10/5/2008 6:49:00 AM | Dark haired dark eyed women are at the top of my list. Blondes are at the bottom. I'm not saying that I haven't met blondes that turned my head. Itwasn't their hair color that did it though. The best looking blondes bought their hair color at the salon.

Posted: 10/5/2008 7:58:17 AM | i'd say they're often the first to catch the eye, the *rippling golden corn* affect...but i know a couple of men who are very attracted to red heads - for one of them it's got somethng to do with his *first time*  , for the other he's just enamored of the fireyness and beauty of the colour (if fireyness, is even a word.. lol) plus i think, it may have something to do with the fact that there aren't as many red-heads as other types
but there's a lot of different things that catches anyone's eye (thankfully, or us brunettes wouldn't have much of a chance, lol)
for some it could be certain body areas, facial attributes, manner of carrying themselves, whether they look well-off or low maintenance, sparkle in the eye, a laugh, etc...
hard to generalize when everyone's so individual in their tastes of things they find particularly attractive | |

It's sad for blondes, but true. I know a blonde woman who actually darkens her hair because of this fact. Also, I've seen a thread or two on here before actually asking why most men prefer brunettes, but I think it got closed. I have no idea where this stereotype began and why so many brunettes get those ugly, grey-looking bleach jobs. I bet a blonde in Hollywood was tired of all men wanting only brunettes, so she started the whole "blondes are hotter" thing and hoped it would stick. Bottom line though, if any man choses a woman solely based on hair color or if any man says "brunettes are smarter, sexier, more mysterious" etc., then he's just a moron, plain and simple. A woman's personality and intelligence has zero to do with hair color and you don't want anything to do with a guy that completely idiotic anyway. | |

I rarely hear anybody describe someone as beautiful based on their hair color, unless they were talking about a blonde. (Red heads ocassionally.) And it's usually accompanied with blue eyes. So blondes are probably more praised for their hair color alone, than any other hair color. It's just never impressed me. Sorry. There are millions of men that would argue with me on the issue. | |

This myth is a purely cultural construct only..and limited to mainstream society in this country . Since kids, many Americans have been spoon fed the pablum about blond being ideal and more interesting and attractive via the original barbie dolls/blond actresses and touting a "peroxide" Marilyn Monroe as the "ideal" woman etc...(Personally I think she was far less plastic and more sensual looking as a brunette).. oh well...
Again it depends on the culture .. Lena Horne, Sophia Loren, Angelina Jolie, are the antithesis of blonds and lauded as goddesses.. and Beauty Ideals...
So while some men may regard blonds as more attractive, others could not disagree more and in fact regard raven haired exotic types as the beauty ideal.. It's all subjective and to a great degree a cultural concept

Hmmmm ... interesting I guess my children were odd as babies, any time anyone with blond hair would hold them they would cry their little heads off. I assumed the lack of contrast for their developing optic sense was something they didn't comprehend since Momma has jet black hair naturally.
I have never been attracted to blond men, I like the contrast of the dark hair.

I read a couple posts in the start of the thread and in the end of the tread. I decided after doing so I didn't need to read the middle.....cause I've got blond hair naturally, I have three children who are blonds naturally, and their father has dark brown hair.
The question was do men pay more attention to a woman who is blond......yes, in the USA men do. They look, glance, stare, or do the casual look over while you walk by, they drive by, or wherever it is that they see you. I have had blond hair all my life....it is natural (add that I'm 5ft 5in and 115lbs with bright blue eyes) and I've seen the difference in response I get from men. But it is more of a sexual response, no matter the setting, it underlays in their attitude to me. Professionally, I find it offensive and have had to deal with situations with peers, associates, etc. about the situation.
I'm not Barbie, she is a small plastic doll. I'm a human being and wish men would start to treat woman more respectful, no matter the color of their hair.
I don't judge men by their hair. I've dated the spectrum in hair color and I don't find that hair color changes who the person is!
I'm Blond and I'll always be Blond and I don't think men should "check out" the Blonds first. Many of my friends are NOT blond but are wonderful women and men miss out because they see me, the blond. Hair color is just a part of the person....not the whole person.

As for male attention, that doesn't change at all with the various color changes. I've known women who claim to get more attention when they've had bleached hair, but I think that was more out of their own confidence, as in, the felt sexier with blonde hair and men responded to that, not the actual color.
And, once again, not to mention names (ahem, a certain female poster a few posts up), but anyone who automatically calls EVERYONE with dark hair "exotic, mysterious goddesses", is, how do I put this nicely? Not an intelligent person. If you think a hair color makes or breaks someone's "exotic goddess" appeal, then you need to get what's inside your head seriously checked and not worry about the hair on top of it. I have noticed many brunettes seem very full of themselves like that, but I won't get into it now. It's just hair girls, quit obsessing and thinking darker is better. | |

A brunette, redhead, grey haired senior, or even bald woman, who also acts hot will be percieved as being hot, as much as is any blonde real, or phony. The trouble is that most grey haired, brunette, bald, etc, women do not think of themselves as being hot, so they do not act hot, so many men do not think of them as being hot. Serious relationships have happened ONLY when I was a bottled redhead, brunette, whatever as long as not a blonde.

Posted: 10/6/2008 5:27:44 AM | Light colors and bright shiny objects tend to be noticed and catch our eyes first. Not unlike louder sounds or noises catch our ears and thus our attention. But once we identify what got our attention it is up to each of us to decide for ourself whether it will keep our attention.
This guy doesn't necessarily find blonds more attractive. I'll notice blonds much like anyone else. But I prefer to stare at brunettes and dark hair. Sometimes red heads. And yeah, sometimes at blonds.
Well, I try not to stare. But it is more the overall look of a woman, ie., slender to athletic build and the way she moves that will have me wanting to look at her much more that her hair color. And is she smiling, friendly and happy looking or a sour puss? The latter loses my attention pretty quickly.
As humans we always have the choice, and hopefully the intelligence, to decide if the bright shiny object is going to trap our attention like the monkey who gets trapped by grabbing and not letting go of the shiny piece of metal through the little hole. Or to notice the bright shiny object, perhaps even admire it, then letting it go.
Then we can decide that if we let it go and it comes back to us, is it a butterfly? | |

I still stand by that most men prefer brunettes over blondes. Why that is, I don't know. Maybe their moms were brunettes or maybe because there are more brunettes in the world and men feel they'll score more often if they say they prefer brunettes. | |
