I, too, am pro-choice. (hope you don;'t mind my writing on your thread)! But, indeed, it will be a sticky wicket when we start deciding who lives and who is not allowed to live, by genetics,. Brings to mind the "master race" of Hitlers. I, like you Raven, feel that homosexuals bring their own unique gifts to the table (what a wonderful way to say it). Homosexuality is accepted in many cultures around the world.
But would you support legislation which would prevent mothers from aborting "gay fetuses" ? | |

Why stop at homosexuality though? This issue is already part of society, for example parents finding their children to have physical disabilities , not the sex they are looking for.
Maybe one day in the future , a gene that possibly predispose`s one to alcohol, drug addiction might be found ? Maybe even a " cheating" gene will be found that shows one will be pre dispose them to that? Stealing, even maybe murder?
In my opinion, we are all predisposed to some sort of sin, all are guilty of that, we are human after all!
To abort a fetus, simply because it may be predisposed to some life style, would be in my opinion, murder. For the difference between murder and killing for self defense for example , comes down to motive. Why the taking of a life is done.
If a parent, decides to abort a fetus for the reason that its genetics might predispose that individual to being Gay, it would be murder I believe. Also pretty silly, after all, it is the parents that passed that so called gene to their child. Aborting a fetus, for this reason, is no different than aborting one because of its sex, size , color of hair, for being human in other words. With all the glory and down falls that entails!

Would like to add, alcoholics, drug addicts, people with short tempers, list never ends and extends to all humans with some fault or another. To abort for the simple reason / motive as that given, is wrong, and in my opinion murder. | |

If it can be proven that homosexuality is a genetic trait and the gene or combination or marker that indicates it's eventual development can be located, then it would be possible to test and 'mark' a fetus as developing into a homosexual human being.
The moral dilemma raised was whether a mother who was anti-abortion (and let's say she believes it's hell-fire damning 'murder' to her) also believed that being homosexual was a hell-fire for eternity damning sin, should choose abortion to save the child the eternal fires of hell.
If it was a real dilemma, any parent could ideally answer. Do you save your own life, eternal or otherwise, knowing that doing so takes the life (eternal) or otherwise) of your child? The answer is "no".
It's not really a moral dilemma though, is it? It's so loaded with assumptions and false dilemmas as to make it near useless -- except it's been useful in causing discussion of side issues.
And the above is an interesting one? "Would you support legislation that would prevent mothers from aborting 'gay' fetuses?" For those who believe that the fetus has no rights, the answer MUST be "NO". There is no other choice. If you are pro-choice/abortion and feel that aborting a 'gay' fetus for being 'gay' is wrong, you are attributing qualities and rights to the 'gay' fetus that you won't attribute equally to the 'non-gay' fetus. Unless you can conclusively establish that there is an intrinsic greater value to the 'gay' fetus than the 'non gay' fetus, you are discriminating on the level of decision that effects who gets to live or not.
I think it's illogical and morally indefensible to be pro-choice and support legislation that makes it illegal to abort a 'gay' fetus.

If it is ever proven that the homosexual is born that way (meaning created that way), I respectfully question why you would be concerned about the scientific strategies that would follow..Such things would be as important to me as dirt on my shoe.
Seems to me that the Christian's life would be altered in such a way that it would shatter their very being. I think you would have to renounce not only your religious faith but also your world view as being a grand manipulative trick, and the greatest stratagem ever achieved by mankind.
As for me, such an event as science proving that millions of folks are born with the inability to obey God would completely disintegrate my very existence.

(or if He does exist, He's an evil God for He creates a man, giving him the desire to love another man, then condemns him to hell for that which he has no control over. He has also killed some of them and burned an entire city full of them because they acted in a fashion the only way they could. As they were created.

~I have mislead thousands, lied to them, and must beg their forgiveness and hope they will forgive.
~I have foolishly squandered thousands of hours studying a mere book of fables and have no real concept of what this life really means.

~I have denied myself desires almost every day of the last decade, agonizing due to denying myself things I longed for all for nothing. I have gained nothing for what I have sacrificed to an imaginary God. (or a really mean and cruel one, in which case is no better)
~I have committed such an unforgiving act of tyranny and injustice against those who do not believe in the Bible and have claimed it was untrue, that I will never forgive myself and will not even dare ask them to. I deserve the worst possible compensation for the things that I have taught as truth to the innocent who trusted me,that were all lies, that I fear the penalty would be unbearable. My own guilt and condemnation would surely drive me to suicide.
These things would be what would consume my thoughts if any scientific evidence was proven to show homosexuality is a genetic trait, and the homosexual has no choice to be anything different.
Nothing would ever be the same for me again. | |
