A small business sized card stating which stores the couple is registered at, along with direction card, RSVP card, etc is NOT in any way putting more value on the gift part than the wedding. It is a whole lot easier for the guests than to have to make a call to family members or wedding party members to find out. It is also, in no way, any sort of statement demanding certain gifts. ( and even if one does not purchase something on the registry, it at least gives guests an idea of the couples taste/decor colors, etc ) I think it's a great idea...as long as there is no hint at all of a demand for certain items only.

| HOITY stagette & bridal shower Posted: 8/20/2008 7:01:28 AM | The OP hasn't said whether the insistence was on the part of the host of the shower or the part of the bride/groom. It could be that a keen bridesmaid or maid of honor has pushed the envelope of taste. People make mistakes, move along.
As for the scale of the stagette, they are (at this point) only planning on getting married once and want to make a big deal out of it. Good for them! Sounds like a fun time.
OP, I'd be very careful about alienating your son and daughter-in-law or you may never see any grandbabies that they may have. My ex-monster-in-law made things so uncomfortable for me that we hardly visited. Why go somewhere that you aren't wanted? Food for thought

| HOITY stagette & bridal shower Posted: 8/22/2008 5:16:01 PM | | To answer this question....yes it was at the insistance of the hostesses of the shower. So, we gave an awesome gift.....not on the registry....and the reaction of pure and genuine appreciation was heard by all. Funny how a gorgeous cut glass vase layered with tastefully colorful lingerie and a tickler to top it off inside created many smiles and titters of hee hee's. And not one thing was on the registry! | |
