| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 5:23:11 PM | Hun, I quoted you, you said you have been on POF more than once in this thread that you were on for two weeks. You didn't say anything about forums until the clear fact that you have been on for a month was pointed out to you. For some reason you wish to make things up and lash out at people. Flaming is not nice. Try not to take POF so seriously and enjoy it.
I do want to add that although I think facial hair is up to the individual, if it isn't kept trimmed and is unruly, I don't care for it.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 5:31:27 PM | I have no hair on top of my head but I didn't lose any hair. It just sorta migrated south a bit. Some of it to my upper lip.
As a teenager I spent a lot of time in front of the mirror gettin the hair on my head combed JUST RIGHT. I now spend that time removing hair from ears & nose.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 6:26:10 PM | Speaking for myself, when I was younger (20s) I wanted a moustach because I thought it would make me look older.
Later in life I started growing a goatee (sp?) during the winter because shaving during the months of low humidity chaffs the heck outta my irish complection.
Recently, as I had often done, I shaved it off as summer began. A platonic female friend of mine (who's historically given me very good "female" advice) told me I was more attractive with it.
Other reasons I grow facial hair:
1. Kind of a lazy, quicker means of getting ready to go out and about.
2. It's a bit fun to change things around now and then. I think it's much like you ladies that like to change hair color and styles.
Sidebar: I have read that as we age, men tend to show less age in their faces because of the constant shaving off of old skin cells, resultingly tightening the skin. Isn't that similar to "exfoliating", as many women do?

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 6:42:55 PM | clasact,
Donald Trump gets the women with his comb over. With that much money I guess you could have hairy eyeballs and no one would care.

...It was fascinating watching my older brothers do their hair in front of the mirror... they would put some Brylcreem "a little dab will do ya" in their hair and comb it all back. Then came the hard part, pulling that little itty bit back on to the forehead, and it had to be just so. Their hair would be so slick & shiny. Its funny how the styles change over the years....

"I am curious as to why so many men over 45 so often have facial hair, more often than younger men. As I am 'looking' again, and looking at men in my age range, I find that most seem to have some facial hair."
Can't speak for the guys, but myself, I don't mind it either way as long as they are clean about themselves. It's their face, their choice. Now, if it happens to inflict discomfort on some part of my body, then it becomes my choice where it comes in contact! LOL!
Same way as, my hair, my choice. Always wondered why some guys felt it was their right to dictate how a woman wears her hair - long, short, medium, colored, natural, etc.
My perspective - each person has to live in their own skin...it's up to them to decide what makes them feel the best about themselves.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 7:29:05 PM | I've never dated a guy without at least a moustache. I prefer that they have a nicely trimmed beard and goatee to go with it. My son now has facial hair but I didn't know it before I went to see him last month. I was really shocked. I love it on other guys, but I'm not really sure I like it on my baby. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 7:50:21 PM | I really dislike facial hair. I wonder what a man would think of a menopausal woman with whiskers? Its seems to be some trend that men over 40 buy a harley and grow facial hair. Many woman over 40 are not interested much in a bad boy look. I outgrew that in my 20s. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 10:00:05 PM | .
Hiding out in the woods for the past couple weeks, I didn’t feel like shaving. So, I didn’t. However, there came a time when I had to go to town for food & stuff, so I took a couple minutes and trimmed it nicely. Yeah, I cleaned up to go to the general store -- how about that, eh? lol
Anyway, I got a lot of work done in the peacefulness of being alone in a cabin in the woods. But, before I go back home, the beard will be gone. I just don’t think that I look right with it.
Some guys look good with a beard, though. I’m just not necessarily one of them and much prefer the clean-cut look for myself when out in public. But here, no one sees me.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 12:34:54 AM | | ^^^^So, in fact, as I suspected all along, facial hair is simply an attempt to disguise your true idenities? Ah, so.....very interesting. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 10:55:53 AM | ...Do what feels good. If you like it and are comfortable with that look, keep the facial hair. I think it looksjust fine, but thats just my opinion.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 10:57:54 AM | Actually I am like a lot of men I like my goatee and mustache. As for beards I tried that and could never get by the constant itching. | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 12:36:13 PM | I grew up in a generation that was pro facial hair. Pro long hair too. I still wear a mustache, and while I like on me, it's not necessary to my survival (or strength). So, if I were getting close to a commitment, it would be negotiable. But, she'd be the one to shave it off of me.
And she'd shock my daughter and please my mother!

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 12:37:39 PM | | OP: probably because most guys have to mature, i.e., get older, before they're able to grow facial hair! | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 1:05:24 PM | I can't quite recall almost any guy NOT having at least a mustache when I was in my teens and twenties. Maybe this being in the Over 45 forums has quite a lot to do with it. After the "Miami Vice" phase passed, the 'in' thing was for guys to be clean shaven for ages. Now, it's back to intricately sculpted and shaved facial hair for the young'uns.
I think it's half preference, half what's 'in', just like our hairstyles have changed over the years.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 5:37:54 PM | Facial hair on a man is a deal breaker for dating with me.
I have thought a lot about why they do it. I think they grew facial hair decades ago to look mature, and have just got stuck in a rut with the style. In the 60's facial hair was in. Today it isn't. Where I live maybe 10% of the men have facial hair. On dating sites 65% of the men have facial hair. I have no idea why that is, but I means that I would go datesless rather than have my skin irritated by someone's facial hair.
I have been told over and over by men that their skin is too tender for them to shave. How selfish is that, is my opinion of that excuse. They don't want their tender skin to be uncomfortable, but expect me to have my skin scuffed up by their facial hair. No it doesn't tickle. I get itchie just looking at it.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 6:02:25 PM | Facial hair can be sexy as hell on the right man and not so sexy on others. I look at the whole package. Besides, if we want an equality between the sexes, we need to let people express their own individuality. Don't you think? | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 6:06:31 PM | | It is not about 'allowing' anyone to express their individuality. It is a matter of preference. If you like facial hair, chest hair, whatever, that's fine. Not everybody likes it/finds it attractive. Do you like men who are 'teddy bears'? Some women do. It is their preference. But others might think he is too fat. Does this mean they are censuring them and insisting all men must be thin? Preference, preference. Not a matter of restricting anyone or allowing anyone anything. | |
