I have been told over and over by men that their skin is too tender for them to shave. How selfish is that, is my opinion of that excuse. They don't want their tender skin to be uncomfortable, but expect me to have my skin scuffed up by their facial hair. No it doesn't tickle. I get itchie just looking at it.
Hmmmm.
What I understand you to say is: I don't believe it when a man says it bothers his face, but he damn sure better believe me when I say it bothers mine or it's the highway for him!
IMHO, that sounds a little like a reverse selfishness to me.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 8:20:07 PM | I find I'm losing it where I don't want to lose it, and grow it where I don't want to grow it. lol. My sister and her friends are estheticians. If I'm around when they show up, someone is always picking at me. lol. They can yank a hair out of my ear when I don't expect it ("ouch b!tch!"), but I doubt they could sneak up on me with a waxed Popsicle stick.
I had a huge cookie duster for about 25 years but cut it off when my daughter was born. She grimaced when I kissed her so.....

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/18/2008 8:28:30 PM | | I think that it is just a preference that a lot of men have. It doesn't bother me at all. My ex-husband had a short trimmed beard, kept it very well groomed and it was a nice smooth texture hair and was nearly black when he was younger. I have never seen him without a beard because he grew it when he went off to college at 18 and is now nearing 50. He has had a beard in all of his adult pictures. I have never had whisker burn from it, it has never been offensive in any way. He did ask me when he started getting some gray in it if I thought that he should color it. I didn't think that he should and he has let it remain natural and it is nearly all gray now. His hair is the same, a nice salt and pepper. We may be divorced, but I thought that he looked hot at one time and still do. | |

has anyone seen a clean shaven picture of Jesus?
What was that Scorcese flick where he portrayed Jesus as a Metrosexual?

My brother has always been envious of men that could grow a nice beard. He has sandy reddish blond hair and he just looks like he has a dirty face when it starts coming in. Some guys have a nice full beard that fills in well and a texture to their hair that makes it smooth and nice. Not all guys are that lucky.

Grind it into my skin and my skin will react. Just rub it on my skin and my skin will react. It is just easier to stay away from all men with facial hair. They are welcome to stay away from me if I have any of the trait they don't like. I will respect their boundaries.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 3:07:54 AM | | Frankly, I grew My beard because My skin is very sensitive and safety razors are NOT! I keep My beard trimmed to approximately 1/4 inch and I like it that way, and have had many compliments on it. As for My moustache, I've had it since I was 14, and currently it's handlebarred and waxed and in the words of Myex wife, with whom I'm still friends, "It's Magnificent"....every time I shave , I make a blood sacrifice and I don't care to partake of that activity! I'm 58 still single, but hopefully not for long, | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 4:13:20 AM | Men grow facial hair for the same basic reason "older" women still keep their hair long...BECAUSE THEY CAN. As adults, we do what we wanna so long as it hurts noone. Kinda like the Wiccan credo...
My fear about this is after dating for a time, maybe even being married, he would shave it off and I would not recognize him...

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 12:50:30 PM | | Every few years I shave all the hair off my face. Then I grow it back because I feel I look better with it. The women I'm close to agree. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 1:41:43 PM | I grew my mustache when I was in the service, I was fresh out of high school, had little choice, enlist of be drafted, some of you know the time, Vietnam era, After bootcamp they said you could grow facial hair but it had to be trimmed, at that time it was the hippie thing, mustaches and long hair so I tried to grow a mustache, my beard was pretty thin, what I grew was peach fuzz, when it got long enough I found a little black shoe polish made it look good. lol Since then I have shaved it off several times but it's just not me, have to grow it back the next day. My facial hair is something that has been there forever it seems, if I shave it off it's like changing me. It also hides the smile wrinkles on the corner of my mouth. lol | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 2:10:18 PM | The first thing that attracted me to the man I am dating now was his neatly trimmed beard. Now, beard or no beard, I would still find him equally as attractive...but I do like the beard. It does hide his adorable dimples though! Basically, I'm saying that it really doesn't matter in the long run ... you date the man not the facial hair, lol! | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 3:08:39 PM | OP
I am curious as to why so many men over 45 so often have facial hair, more often than younger men. As I am 'looking' again, and looking at men in my age range, I find that most seem to have some facial hair. My preference is for a man without it, so this circumstance has stood out for me.
Basically, I am not criticizing, just wondering.
I'm still young at the ripe age of 51,, but to answer your question,, the best I could do with a facial hair when I was young,, was a mustache,, the rest looked looked a patch work here and there,, but now in the winter,, I grow a goatee for a about a month,, then shave it,, then I'll do it again,, I like to change my look,, but when push comes to shove,, it's short hair and clean shaving,, except for the 5pm shadow ever now and then,,,
