| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 6:33:03 PM | | Hmmm most of the responses have hit the nail on the head.....I was military for awhile then a cop for 30 years so needless to say ...it was short hair and no beard for all my adult life.....men for the most part dont have the options that you gals do but changing out hair styles ...we get stuck in a rut and dont bother to even think about it...now that I am working in a job where no uniform is allowed ...for the first time in my adult life , I have let my hair grow out some...can allready see the total Willie Nelson style is not for me....but I do grow a goatee out....shave it off....no mustache then mustache....etc...the hair thing is no major deal to me and If it was a deal breaker to some gal....I would probably go back to the total clean cut look...but damn it feels nice to have some hair blowing in the wind on my Harley..... | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/19/2008 8:57:44 PM | | There were a lot of beards and mustaches in the 60's. It's not surprising that guys who had facial hair then have it now. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 4:02:16 PM | I don't mind the facial hair as long as the look is current. Grizzly Adams is out, guys, and for that matter so is Miami Vice. And keep in mind that beards turn gray just as much as (or sometimes more than) other parts, so keep it trimmed and neat and make sure it's all in sync, colorwise.
Oh, and one more thing for you guys over 45... if you have more hair on your chin than on the top of your head, consider shaving it ALL!
My 2 cents... | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 5:35:30 PM | | Facial hair or not is an individual preference, I recently grew a goatee and like it for the time being, next week I may not and it will be gotten rid of. Same for the moustache though I have had it for years except for a few times when it was shaven. It's not that big of a deal for me either way, convince me I look better without it and it's gone.... PROBLEM SOLVED | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 5:35:39 PM | | I think a lot of men grow facial hair because they are loosing the hair on their heads. In a lot of cases that just looks worse. | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 6:09:41 PM | | It depends upon the weather....my full beard shows up in the winter, by spring it is the goatee and mustache, by summer I'm clean shaven for a while, and in the fall the mustache and goatee comes back. It's cyclical. | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 6:28:23 PM | Have tried them all including clean shaven. When I had just a mustache everyone said I looked like Cheech Marin. Did the full beard and moustache with the shaved head and everyone said I looked like Ivan Koloff the Russian wrestler. Then I did the shaved head and goatee/mustache like in my profile photos. No negative comments about looking like any strange person. Now it's hair and goatee & mustache. No negative comments yet so I guess the goatee/mustache wins.
As far as having it or not? All I can say is if a lady comes along that knocks my socks off but doesn't like the facial hair I'll bet it takes me at least an hour to stop bleeding from shaving it off so fast. OK...So I'm easy.
FWIW...When I shaved everything off my 18 year old son told me I looked better with a beard or goatee.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 6:52:19 PM | That's why you'll never catch me on a crab boat in the Bering Sea on Deadliest Catch. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 6:58:22 PM | HD-Lowrider, your facial hair looks nice and full. Very nice. But if you were to be out there on a crab boat in the Bearing Sea it would keep your face warmer. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 7:12:14 PM | love a well kempt clean beard, goatee, whatever. and when they've turned silver..............oh lawdy
I don't think more men my age are bearded than in prior years, but I do notice men my age more often.....if you get my drift.
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 7:19:48 PM | Well thank you Suzy. If I were out in the Bering Sea on a crab boat I'd be more worried about keeping other things warm.
Get your mind out of the gutter now. I was talking about my fingers and toes.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 7:39:13 PM | | Less is better. Well groomed in a style that flatters the shape of their jaw line or a nice mustache. I've never fantasized about dating Chubaka or Sasquatch. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/22/2008 10:42:33 PM | Well the new Gillette Fusion 8 pack goes for like $30. Yeah it *could* be the economy. | |

Funny, that the one w/o the facial hair should be the odd man out. Anyway, there are women who like men w/o facial hair; I'm one of them. OMG maybe I'm an injun too...

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/23/2008 7:27:10 PM | | Next January I'll had my beard for 30 years....not sure where the time has gone. I grew it when I started flying helicopters for a living which I did for 15+ years before switching full time to fixed wing aircraft. Working in remote areas for extended periods of time back then it made sense. Just never took it off. Was pretty dark back then and pretty gray now. I now keep it short, well trimmed.....some women like it and some don't. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/23/2008 7:50:39 PM | | Well fall traveller your beard looks very good. Personally I like a beard on a man so to each her own I guess. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 6:42:18 AM | I do not mind men who sport a mustache, trimmed beard, or goatee. And, if they have a little gray mixed in, I find it sexy. I am not talking about the Grizzly Adams look, nice and trimmed and if it is just the five o'clock shadow look, very hot. Clean shaved or facial hair - either way is OK with me, but a man with a goatee will usually get a second glance from me | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 9:14:39 AM | | Yeah I noticed the Grizzly Adams types aren't posting here too... I think that what I don't like either.... somewhere between that and ZZ Top.... but I'll get some contacting me and I just can't go there... but out in the world I notice very few of those types... the goatee's and closely trimmed beards are fine, and I don't think many women complain about that, but to be honest I don't like the handlebar look but I guess if a guy I was involved with had his heart set on it, who am I to say no.... if I want to cut my hair I sure don't want a man to tell me that they only like long hair... I think having children keep us up to date because they will be the first to tell us that we are "Dated"... I don't mind being reminded because I don't want to be stuck in a 80's hair style or makeup...when you find something that looks good it's hard to change old habits... but I draw the line on mullets anyone gonna chastise me??? | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 10:04:40 AM | | I do not mind if a man has facial hair as long as he keeps it clean and trimmed. What I do not like is when a man has a full beard and neglect to shave under his chin and at the top of his beard. Just because a man grows a beard does not mean that he is not to shave ANY of his facial hair. That has a very unkempt look to it. | |
