| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/23/2008 7:27:10 PM | | Next January I'll had my beard for 30 years....not sure where the time has gone. I grew it when I started flying helicopters for a living which I did for 15+ years before switching full time to fixed wing aircraft. Working in remote areas for extended periods of time back then it made sense. Just never took it off. Was pretty dark back then and pretty gray now. I now keep it short, well trimmed.....some women like it and some don't. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 6:42:18 AM | I do not mind men who sport a mustache, trimmed beard, or goatee. And, if they have a little gray mixed in, I find it sexy. I am not talking about the Grizzly Adams look, nice and trimmed and if it is just the five o'clock shadow look, very hot. Clean shaved or facial hair - either way is OK with me, but a man with a goatee will usually get a second glance from me | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 9:14:39 AM | | Yeah I noticed the Grizzly Adams types aren't posting here too... I think that what I don't like either.... somewhere between that and ZZ Top.... but I'll get some contacting me and I just can't go there... but out in the world I notice very few of those types... the goatee's and closely trimmed beards are fine, and I don't think many women complain about that, but to be honest I don't like the handlebar look but I guess if a guy I was involved with had his heart set on it, who am I to say no.... if I want to cut my hair I sure don't want a man to tell me that they only like long hair... I think having children keep us up to date because they will be the first to tell us that we are "Dated"... I don't mind being reminded because I don't want to be stuck in a 80's hair style or makeup...when you find something that looks good it's hard to change old habits... but I draw the line on mullets anyone gonna chastise me??? | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 10:04:40 AM | | I do not mind if a man has facial hair as long as he keeps it clean and trimmed. What I do not like is when a man has a full beard and neglect to shave under his chin and at the top of his beard. Just because a man grows a beard does not mean that he is not to shave ANY of his facial hair. That has a very unkempt look to it. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 10:18:25 AM | I would say best not to make assumptions. I grew a beard in 1967 and have had it since then. At one point way back it was down to mid-chest to go with my hair that was shoulder length. That didn't last long because it was too much trouble to keep it trimmed and clean and combed and all. As far as the cost of razor blades, I have had the same straight razor since 1970 and it does the job far better than any blade could ever do.
The lady I am with now likes it longer than my picture, so I have let it grow out a bit. Would I shave it off? Well one lady asked me that at our first meeting and there was not a second. I am not interested in changing a lady to suit my preferences and not interested in one that wants to change me. Waylon Jennings had it right when he wrote, "The only thing I' changing is my mind. I don't toe no mark, and I don't walk no line."

Lord, I would get bored if I couldn't up date my style, just for fun.

Interesting point. How many women keep the same hairstyle for 40 years?

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 1:27:57 PM | | I for one.. LOVE facial hair.. especially the goatee.. somthing sooo incredibly sexy about it.. and a bald head and a goatee...mmmmm even better!!! | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 1:53:26 PM | | When I had a full beard I was surprised how much work shaving was compared to no beard. The goatee was a good compromise. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 2:27:37 PM | Okay complainers,
If women here can have facial hair, then guys should be able too. So there.
No moustache rides for you (french spelling).

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 3:06:24 PM | I love mustaches and/or goatees on men, well trimmed of course, I think they are extremely sexy | |
|
| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 4:45:25 PM | I grew my mustache at 19, after I got carded for cigrarettes at the same store that I'd bought them at since I was 12. They guy said I "looked" too young to be smoking.
I've shaved my mustache twice, since I first grew it; both times were for job interviews, over 20 years ago.
My fiance' likes my mustache, and would prefer that I grow a goatee permanently. Unfortunately, my occupation dictates that I be able to wear a respirator. Thus, mustache is fine; goatee is a no go. But, once I retire, I'll be growing that goatee to keep the boss as happy as I possibly can.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 4:45:57 PM | | This reminds me of a time my brother who is handicapped wanted a beard... I sort of cringed at the idea cause I knew who would have to up keep it to make sure he didn't look like a mountain man... so I took a deep breath and said sure why not... so I went to Sally's beauty salon to buy him a beard trimmer and waited for it to grow....it didn't take long cause unfortunately he grows a better beard FASTER then our other brother... but grew it did and I had the joy of trimming it for him and this is a woman who never has dealt with trimming a man's beard before.. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!!! and I couldn't wait for him to tell me it was done... and one day I came home from work and out he walks and clean shaven he was... he said "I don't want it anymore"... THANK GOD...... he also shaved his chest hair off once just to see what it was like... days later he said "I won't do that anymore it itches"... I never know with him .... sometimes he decides on a mustache sometimes no... but I don't interfere to much as long as he keeps it up... THANK GOD my other brother trims the nose hair... ewww... | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 7:20:12 PM | Well tickle my shivers....matey. I spent 30 years with a nautical mate, who sported a beard, from the day I met him. Rationale, it was too difficult to shave on a ship with the list and loll of the roalling seas, one needs a steady hand to shave. Point noted. Then he spent another decade in the far north, and claimed the beard was a necessity for skin protection and heat retention. ok, I bought that theory also. Dying of curiosity to see the fabled "Kirk Douglas " chin, I finally convinced him to shave it off. Well holy scratchers, that stubble was like a bizillion razor blades ripping across my lips. "Grow it back" was my only plea. Today, he's Mr. Santa Clause, with the jolly old smile buried somewhere under that muff. It seems to suit his personality though, and I suspect his lazy (shaving averse )lifestyle. To each his/her own, I guess | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 7:42:30 PM | mustaches are soooo disco!....never heard that one before.....very good... So, facial hair on a guy now like ordering off the menu?? | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/24/2008 7:51:22 PM | Maybe they're trying to grow hair where they can, since most of them can't grow it on their heads anymore. I love that look, when they keep what hair they buzzed very short and have a close-cropped beard and mustache. Sexy! | |

Well yeah, I guess if your choice is facial hair or having your lips sliced off, I'd go with the facial hair too. But certainly not on aesthetic grounds.
I think sideburns get across the idea of masculinity very well, without all the excess hairiness.
And I agree about the mustache. If you must have facial hair, do the beard and mustache BOTH not one or the other. If it's just a beard, it's all Abe Lincoln. And as for just a mustache - maybe this is a growing up in the 70s thing, but every time I see a guy with just a mustache, I think "gay" or "cop" or "gay cop."
I blame The Village People.

First you missed the point of my post..
next what bologny, facial hair does not make you look old, its wrinkles and saggy skin that make one look old..
