wow.. what a can of worms...

I never knew that asking about 'dump line' would call for so many diatribes to the demise of every relationship... LOL.

Personally, I think magazines like Cosmo, Elle and all the rest of the "popular" magazines that read like Sex in the City... should be flushed.

How many guys have come home to a woman pissed off because she took a "test" from the magazine to judge the current state of her "relationship"

Worthless garbage...

Aye aye aye...

It always ceases to amaze me when people flaunt cowardice around so vainly.

" I love you but I'm not in love with you"

I mean, I'm already aware that people use this, but really?

Every such line you'll find in this thread is a COP-OUT. Period. If you love someone, enough to copulate with them, you commit heart, body and soul. If you don't, *DON'T* have sex with them! Simple. Is no one else endowed with such virtuous nobility, fierce loyalty, determined devotion, and superb self-control as I?

How about "I love you like a friend, but not romantically in love with you." Is that better? LOL
How about they shove that right back where it came from?

It may seem like I'm assuming there was some fornication (or at least fondling and/or osculation) anteceding the dissolution, but even if there was no canoodling nor coitus, *DON'T* use the 'L' word to ditch someone! That's the cardinal rule - hasn't any read "Dumping for Dummies" ? If you Love someone, there is no 'but'!

It's just how people rationalize THEIR OWN MISTAKES, that they care not own up.

If people *MUST* use it (lest they strain what vestige of a brain cell is left lingering around inside that otherwise hollow head of theirs, coming up with a concrete explanation of why *they* chose to cheat on you, and now cannot bear their own guilt), here are some accepted instances of the usage:

"I love you, but...

- ...I'm really a slut and I will spend the rest of my life unfulfilled, as I drift aimlessly from c0ck to c0ck, heedless of the broken heart trail I leave behind, in a ludicrous attempt to 'find myself'.

- ...I'll never be satisfied, and since I see a boyfriend as nothing other than an accessory, I'm always looking for 'upgrades', aren't you?

- ...I really don't care about heart, values, valor, valiance, integrity, genuineness, or honesty, so long as I'm getting fvcked like a dog every night.

- ...I will tell you that I need my space and alone time, while in reality, I've already slept with other guys, and I will continue to do so for as long as my body allows. The more the merrier, and variety is the spice of life!

- ...I don't care about you, nor anyone else for that matter, but myself.

- ...I'm a pathological and compulsive liar who illusions myself with grandiose fabrications of alternate realities I play out in the dream world state that is my natural obfuscating haze of viewing things, which I call "rose-colored glasses". My farts smell like potpouri, my sneezes are so cute that they communicate with tiny woodland critters, my teardrops sprout flowers when they meet ground, I'm always followed by sprites and faeries, and butterflies show me the way, so don't lead me astray. Have a nice day!

- ...I really don't care if I lose you because there are plenty more eager beavers in the sea that I can use.

- ...I've been having an affair with my i-pod, I'm secretly already married to my cellphone, and I'm hooking up with my computer. (I know I'm brilliant - fan mail is always welcome.)

- ...you make me feel bad by being so sweet and doing nice things for me. This isn't to contrast my being an inconsiderate wh0re, which I am, but to misdirect you from that fact by dileneating that I keep score of everything. So when you win with thoughtfulness, you actually lose me, get it? I refuse to see past my nose and I'll never have the capacity to wrap my mind around the bigger picture of things. Now *you* leave me no choice but to breakup with you from *my* own guilt. Did it work?

- ...I'll never admit that I did you wrong, let alone apologize for anything, so you better get going while the getting's good, lest I up my abuse to the next level... 129 on the scale of 10.

- ...I have no conscience, and barely a consciousness - I'm driven by society's norms and stereotypes - contrition and compunction are things of the past.

- ...I really don't, because I have no opinions, cannot think for myself, but I do know how to bruise myself and call the cops, telling them you beat me, so you should probably leave and never talk to me again.

- ...you deserve better than this jaded and stroppy trollop who will never make any effort in connecting with you, will not find meaning in anything, ever again, can't accept that someone likes her, nor appreciates gestures of friendship, as she forever suspects that everyone is out to screw her over.

- ...I'm a b1tch and I suck.

If you use any of these, remember to give credit where credit is due - don't be a cherry-picker, and also, feel free to mix-and-match!

I for one think that every "breakup line" should include a sincere 'sorry' (not a sarcastic one) for reasons I feel not belaboring right now, but especially when there was no valid reason for it (boredom doesn't count - you can't expect to be "in love" with someone 24/7 - even though it's really very easy to be, but if you love someone, you'll see the forest for the tress and get over your myopia).

Is anything better than nothing?

That is up there with my favorite, "some man is going to be very lucky to have you." Makes me sound like a pet! I feel like the dog left out in the woods, when the owner drives away. Of course these guys ALWAYS come back after some woman uses them and abuses them. The guys are always shocked that "good little girl" doesn't want the mean owner anymore.

Yeah, it is a sucky line of bull.

My first wife, after 10 years of mariage.. I did tell her exactly that. It wasnt a line, it was the truth. It definately does happen that you love someone but simply not in love. To fall in love is something I definately want. I have my kids and my friends that I love, my partner in life has to mean something different.

"your an amazingly beautiful woman, the most caring and unbelieveably unselfish person ive ever met, you have a heart like no one ive ever seen and i cant believe im doing this, but after being with you and haveing a beautiful woman by my side i realize i only have half the puzzle the other half is my son and all i want is my child with me. I feel like im sacrificing his happiness for my happiness, so im going to try to work things out with my ex and the mother of my son, i know its not love between her and i but maybe i can make things work for his sake." "please dont hate me"

was the build up to try and make the blow softer? all it did was make things worse..i couldnt even respond...

"and marrying another woman in 2 wks...amazing. Thank God you got rid of that one!

Really. It's been almost 6 years now, and I hear his wife refuses to have sex with him, did after getting into a huge house and two kids in the first two years of marriage. But they say that things come around and you get what you deserve. I know he did. LOL. I think so anyway.

Hearing this line was tough. I had half my face broken, took eight weeks of big glasses an a huge floppy hat to get through. Good thing I was working in a call centr at the time and hid in my corner cubicle and cried for months. UGH! It still hurts. Breaking up by email is so cowardice, let alone the content!

BTW, how could anyone be married to someone who refuses to be with them physically. Hey, sounds like a new forum topic for discussion. I think I am gonna go open it!

Well, there is a big difference in loving someone (or somethng) and being "in love" with someone. I can honestly say that I love my sisters and brothers. I love my neices and nephews. I love my dog. But, that is not being "In Love"

"Love, but not IN love"...

Sounds to me like they were just being honest, to you and to themselves. It's a brave move for someone to admit that they want to find someone that they'll have a strong, intimate emotional bond with, real once-in-a-lifetime stuff. it might sound lame, but so many of our own deep-seated goals so ofte ndo.

Isay, give them the benefit of the doubt and, altyhough it sucks for you, and they will probably never find someone better, best move on.

How about after weeks of e-mails and really nice texts of how he was looking forward to seeing me again yada yada yada .......................... he tells me 2 days after I come back from holidays "I've been thinking about my ex alot lately and I think I'm still in love with her" (all in a text message) ............... then goes on to say that I came on too strong?????!!!!!!!! All I did was follow suit with the texts etc he was sending me, after them being split up for a year you'd think she would've been out of his system?? Yahuh!!!

Guys have the balls to break up with someone in for a relative reason and in person, text-dump is not acceptable behaviour for a 33year old chimp let along a man.

I was the one who actually felt that way, never told that guy because I knew it would hurt his feelings. But I do undertand what that feels like, he was like my best friend and I trusted him totally, I liked him a lot, I loved him as a family and a brother, I cared for him a lot, I would do anything I can do to make him happy, but there was no butterfly in the stomache, never, there was something missing there.

One night he asked me what is happiness to me. I couldn't answer, I asked him back, he said happiness is being with me. I was speechless. Soon after that both of us decided it was time to move on. We both cried, not easy for either of us but now we're both much happier.

Anybody gets that line please try to understand the other person, he/she is not right for you no matter how much you love him/her. Let it go.

That's right up there with "It's not you, it's me", which in plain English means "Someone might want you, but I don't."

The day I was to go in to receive my cancer diagnosis I got a call from a woman I had never met she wanted to be the one to take me to my cancer appointment. I asked who she was and my partner of 20 years came on the phone to introduce his current mistress and to tell me that he needed to have fun and cancer wasn't fun, so instead of coming home to be with the kids while I was at the doctor he went directly to her house from work to move in there.

Ironically she went into the hospital about 2 months later and he had the nerve to turn up at my door expecting to be let in. It felt good to turn him away.

How about this line"its not me its you"

I invented that line!

ya ever think maybe that`s how the person really feels?.......ya think it might be possible that she was actually not in love with you....omg the horror.....shit happens.....not everyone is gonna be in love with ya .....reality check......

I am with this woman. It might sound like a bad line to you OP or anyone else when it is used on you. But think about it. Most of us have had someone in our life that we loved as a friend, we loved doing things with them, but we couldn't see ourself with them as a partner for life. Thats why they love you, but they are not in love.
It makes perfect sense to me.
