| What Were We/ They thinking? Posted: 8/21/2008 1:20:50 PM | Have we already forgotten one of, if not the most dangerous toys ever marketed?
This once popular toy had blinded, maimed and even killed innocent children.
Yes, I refer to Lawn Darts.
What were they thinking?!?

I think sparklers, those 'sticks' that you light on fire and emit smoke and hot sparks all over the birthday cake and the kids nearby, are worthy of mention too.

The headlight dimmer push button switch mounted in the foot area of a car or truck was idiotic. Anyone that has lived in areas with deep snow can attest how those switches soon got encased in ice when the snow melted off your boots and then froze. For some drivers winter was a time of perpetual low-beam. Oh dear OR, one can only assume that you were one of those poor souls who had NO heat in their POC vehicle! LOL I happen to LIKE the foot dimmer better and miss it!! I grew up in northern Alberta and I can't ever say I remember anything freezing INSIDE the vehicle ( once it was heated up that is) Pssst... kick the snow OFF your boots too when ya get in!
Ah the Bay City Rollers,... grade 8 HAHAHA. I still happen to have one of Woody's plaid scarves he always wore,... my cousin used to deliver his newspapers and she sent it to me. Hm wonder where I stashed it?
Vancouver Cannots YELLOW nightmare uniforms,.... WTF ???? is all I can still say! and anyone remember liquid embroidery?? UGH.

The 'b*tch flip' for girls- 6" bangs or higher, shellaced with hairspray into a rhino horn.
LOL - miss my rhino horn.
Clackers - I had purple ones and I actually learned to use them a little. It was always a little stressful because I was aware of what would happen if the string broke.
Does anyone remember playing Jacks? How about skipping and so called Chinese Skip? I enjoyed those things.
The absolutely worst fashion period I can remember was in the early 80's when everyone was wearing sweat pants and sweat shirts. I wouldn't call these exactly flattering. In the mid 80's, stir-up pants appeared. They were not all bad and definitely more flattering than sweats, but if you could see the stir-ups, I thought they looked like something a little kid would wear. It seemed like everyone wanted to look like they were in their pjs.

I have no idea what a "POC" vehicle is.
I grew up in northern BC where I have experienced temperatures as low as -60 deg. Celsius.
The heaters in the vehicles were adequate but typical driving time was short. You could kick your boots and get most of the snow of,f but never all of it. As the months of winter dragged on the ice accumulated.
In light of the fact that most if not all modern vehicles are equipped with the dimmer switches mounted on the column, not on the floor, is proof enough for me the idea was not a good one.

| What Were We/ They thinking? Posted: 8/28/2008 8:21:05 PM | One of the things I didn't like about the sweat clothes years was that they all seemed to be in pastel colours. I am not big on pastels. I had almost forgotten the NEON years. Oh, I am so glad that little trend is over.
I wonder if tats and piercings will fade out, too.

| What Were We/ They thinking? Posted: 9/19/2008 12:03:40 PM | The newspapers shout a new style is growing,
but it don't know if its coming or going,
there is fashion, there is fad
some is good, some is bad
and the joke rather sad,
that it's all just a little bit of History repeating.
... and Ive seen it before
... and I'll see it again
... yes I've seen it before
... just little bits of history repeating
Some people don't dance, if they don't know who's singing,
why ask your head, its your hips that are swinging
Life's for us to enjoy
woman, man, girl and boy,
feel the pain, feel the joy
aside set the little bits of history repeating

| What Were We/ They thinking? Posted: 9/24/2008 11:59:46 AM | Throw pillows are silly things. They are too small and too fancy to actually sleep on.
Generally you have to toss them off the bed before you can sleep there (or whatever else you might do in or on your bed).
In my humble opinion throw pillows are useless except for making money for those people that invented them and supply them.
Hmmm, is it is only women that buy throw pillows?
