| Uniforms!!! Posted: 8/20/2008 12:28:32 PM | Ive just been reading some of the posts on here.....and boy are you guys lucky over there. The only thing we can buy in a high street shop is the shirts, school skirts and the boys trousers. Every school here has a different uniform, and they are all logo'd....even the tracksuits, which are 60 euros each for my boys and 40 for the girls. My sons school jackets alone are 60 euros each. Its an absolute rip off here...so much for free education!! | |

| Uniforms!!! Posted: 8/20/2008 12:52:08 PM | Thank God I no longer have to buy a uniform.
When I was at school the only thing that had a logo on it was a blazer and you bought that seperate and sew it on yourself..
Cant parents make a stand and ask why every piece of school kit has to have the school logo on it...Sure would make buying shirts, tops etc a lot cheaper and easier .

| Uniforms!!! Posted: 8/20/2008 1:02:55 PM | In a lot of schools the uniform is actually set by a "parents committee". If its an issue you feel strongly about perhaps you should consider joining the committee assuming of course (and yes I know its a big assumption) you have the time/transpost/childcare arrangments to attend such meetings.
Personally I would do away with the damn things altogether. I mean one of the original "justifications" for having a school uniform was the (rather dubuious) assumption that it was cheaper than ordinary clothes but clearly this isint the case in a lot of instances.

| Uniforms!!! Posted: 8/20/2008 2:01:38 PM | Oh yeah Uniforms!!!
Ive got 1 at secondary school and one just starting, so Ive had to replace some stuff and buy new for the other!
School blazer with logo £25-
Sleevless pullovers ( tank tops) with logo £15 each-
4 long sleeve blus shirts for my boy, big size as his neck is already 16 inches!-£16 in total.
P.E shirt with logo £12
School Rubgy shirt-£25 ( not bought that yet)
Drill top for training with logo £25 ( not bought that yet either!)
3/4 sleeve blue fitted tailored shirts for my daughter £13 for 2, need 4 so thats £26. ( BTW thats the actual shirts insisted on by the school, its not just fashion!)
Tie £3.50
That was just all from the school outfitters, which is the ONLY place that sells it! Bloody con!
Ive also had to buy things like football boots, shin pads, football socks, shorts, bags, stationary etc etc from elsewhere. Oh and shoes and trainers for PE too!
My best buy was school trousers for my daughter from Primark, ladies size 14...fiver each!
Bring back bloody plain jumpers and shirts I say!
