I see women lifting weights all the time and not just 5 or 10 pound dumbells. Not all women like to lift weights but it doesn't mean that none of them do.

I am by far not skin and bones...used to be ALOTT thinner.do to some skiing injuries I dont work out like I used to.at all......my own fault..not blaming anyonelse....but I think what alot of women and or men fail to remember is that its not about getting bulky.....but muscle helps burn fat.....or so I am told.....so weight lifting isnt bad..and just cause u lift doenst mean u will get huge muscles.....a nice toned body is a beautiful thing.....

i wouldn't wanna do weights because i might loose the bulk in my chest area, and gain it too much somewhere else.

but, i knew a girl in college who can bench press 150 lbs. w.out a sweat. she's a baller with very sexy toned arms...not over killed buffness.

i also know my bf's lil cousin (in h.s.) who does weights. i don't know how much, but she's wayyyyy stronger than i am for sure!

I only like to exercise in bed!

I'm naturally petite and thin and dont have to exercise regularly to keep trim. (Dont hate!) It bugs me when a guy b*tches when I eat junk food or about the fact that I dont exercise. Im not lazy, Im fit, and I have a 5yr old to chase after. So to turn this Q around for the guys, Whats the big F*in deal? Why do men harp on the exercise issue?

Women SHOULD use weights, especially as they get older. It stops osteoperosis for a start and ensures you don't end up with a walking stick or using a zimmer frame.
It is very, very rare for a woman to "bulk up". We don't have the testosterone needed to do that. Very few women bulk up without using steroids.

Women will *not* bulk up from using weights because we don't have the right hormones to bulk up. It will help you lose weight, strengthen your bones, and make you shapely.

I'm now 55. I first started weight training 30 years ago because I wanted to develop my upper body strength when I started working in construction. It really helped me a lot. Yes, I developed a little definition but I definitely did *not* bulk up. In those days, you did not see women doing strength training. I got my initial training from a bodybuilder who taught a class for women. When I'd go to the weight room at the YMCA, the guys would glare at me but I didn't care. Hell, if I could put up with harassment on the job, I sure wasn't going to be intimidated by a little glaring in the weight room at the Y.

My biggest problem with weight training is that I find it boring. I can stick with it for about 2 years and then I get bored. Unlike bicycling, dancing, and walking, which I love to do and will do at every opportunity, I find it hard to stay motivated to stick with weight training. However, I feel really good when I do it. I have more stamina. I really should pick it up again.

There's an excellent book called Strong Women Stay Young that's directed towards menopausal women but is a good read for any woman interested in weight training. It outlines a basic routine that can be done at home or at the gym, gives excellent instructions on the proper way to train, and gives very sound advice based on research. If you stick with it, you can expect to be more shapely, improve muscle tone, lose body fat, and have more energy and stamina. I recommend it highly.

At my gym you now see men & women of all ages and shapes using the weight machines. It's not like it used to be when the only guys in the weight room were young, bulked up gym rats who intimidated anyone who walked into the weight room.

I recommend it for any man or woman who wants to look good and feel good. Just get some good instruction in the beginning so you don't hurt yourself.
