Its difficult for an mature person to dress as a 20 something
yet, 40/50 something women do dress that way.... very many, in fact. All you have to do is walk through the mall and see how many moms are dressed identical to their daughters. Most of them look like remnants from a fire in a wax museum.
I'm guilty of chuckling at them so, I guess, OP, you have that right to chuckle as well.
Well, while were at it............shorter hair on older women looks more appealing - it doesn't give their face that long, drawn, aged appearance.

Its difficult for an mature person to dress as a 20 something. If an old person wants to look goth etc, go for it. I will try not to chuckle as they pass by.
How is whining mature? Geesh, women in their 20's don't whine about stuff like this. If a man dyes his hair it's for him not you. If you don't like it too bad. You're going to be awful negative person if you get upset or emotional because someone doesn't meet your fashion requirements.

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/24/2008 8:04:45 AM | You men that are arguing for "black hair' need to take a hint! Women have been dying their hair in this day and age a lot longer than men. And we know what we are talking about. At least, some of us. Black hair over 50 does not look natural. Not on a man, not on a woman, not in nature. Black hair turns grey Even on our pets. Brown hair sometimes does not turn grey. Blonde hair sometimes does not turn grey. Red hair turns grey, Soooo, if you are going to dye your hair coal black or bright red, after the age of 45, you are going to look like you dye your hair coal black or bright red. Just that easy. You pick! You rather be regular soft brown or dark blonde, or look like a old person trying to look 20. This comes from a born redhead, who loved her red hair, Alas, now it is dark blonde. Goodbye, Redhead.

The facial features are obviously over 50. Is 50+ the new goth look?
Well being that I am only 43, I hope my features dont look 50+ lol. I obviously dont dye my hair, but I do dye my goatee. If I didn't it would be just about all grey. I have been told it looks good grey but, I prefer the black look.

I particularly like the combovers that begin right above one ear and circle the head over to the opposite ear. Don't you?
Guess I will leave my razor alone for a few weeks, let my hair grow in, and style it that way. Geesh! Will you women please make up your mind about combovers.

Well, while were at it............shorter hair on older women looks more appealing - it doesn't give their face that long, drawn, aged appearance. Always love how comments like this come from people that don't post pictures. I don't want to bash, so I will keep my thoughts to myself, but will say that I don't have a long face, my face isn't drawn and as far as aged, oh honey I look my age.
I did some school shopping with my daughter on Friday, there were two lovely ladies in the store that realllly had long hair, one had a solid white/gray and the other had a strawberry blonde. I am sure both women were/are older than I am, but they looked very fashionable and happy. I say happy because I think you often see someone's beauty radiate from their insides and these women didn't look drawn in the least, they radiated.
I totally agree that women that color their hair don't just use the solid just for men types. I think that is the problem. Really if I wouldn't get in trouble for pointing someone out, the guy that used to have the black hair, he looks handsome now with his natural color. The black did not go with his skin color and did age him. Now he looks healthy and actually is probably happier.

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/24/2008 12:52:32 PM | I personally think more guys should color their hair. Women of course have a lot more experience in this area, so thats probably why you're hearing what you're hearing. Just be intelligent about color choice. I know a lot of guys who would look ab. fab. with their hair colored with their natural hair color before silvering. If you shave like you're supposed to, you dont need to worry about your facial hair | |

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/24/2008 3:00:00 PM | | I'm going for the distinguished "Sean Connery" look as I get older. The top has already called it a career, and the grays are coming in elsewhere. I am just fine with that, and I would hope my personality would be more of an attraction than whether or not I try to recapture any youth by altering my hair's natural course of action. | |

"Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black?" Lammo! But some are/were doing it for work purposes! I simply shave them both hair and facial hair! Problem solved! lol lol
Maybe more women should shave their heads as well!

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/25/2008 6:04:49 AM | I started getting gray in high school. I left it like that for a while but one day dyed it dark brown along with the beard because the woman I was with thought I looked too old (she was 10 years older than me). It looked pretty fake. It would take a couple of days before the dye on my skin faded and after about 2 weeks you could see the grey coming back at the part. I finally let it grow out and haven't done it since. I look about 20 (some people guess 30) years older than I am and I'm guilty of sort of Trumping it with a combover but what hair I have is nice and I'm not ready to be a skin head. What's left makes a nice ponytail and may be getting that way again.
Grecian Formula??? I stopped using that when I found out it had lead acetate in it and they don't want you to wash your hair that much. I'm sure some of that lead leaches into the brain.
If the best can't be had, let the worst continue...

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/25/2008 7:14:47 AM | I use Just For Men light/med brown on my goatee about once every 2-3 weeks and try to leave a little grey in it. Reason being my goatee is about 90% grey naturally and I have almost no grey hair on my head. I think it looks better when they match. One time I bought the wrong color and left it in too long and it came out almost black. Looked terrible so I shaved it off and started over.
As far as pitch black goes....maybe their going for the Elvis/Wayne Newton look? Ya Ain't Nothing But A....Donka Shane.

I don't want to bash, so I will keep my thoughts to myself, but will say that I don't have a long face, my face isn't drawn and as far as aged, oh honey I look my age. - just em I have to dis-agree with you there, just em. I was posting on another thread just yesterday, about several women on this site, who look at least 10 years younger than they really are & they all have LONG hair (& they all seem to think they look their age, just like you!)
But in response to the original question, I would imagine they do it for the same reason anyone of any age (or gender) would colour their hair. Because they want to. For whatever reason: to look younger, to feel better about themselves, whatever reason. Just like the rest of us, who colour their locks.
I have never seen an example of what you described OP, so either I haven't met /or seen anyone here who does it, or they are much better at it & it looks good & I didn't even notice. Difficult to say. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
As far as pitch black goes....maybe their going for the Elvis/Wayne Newton look? - Hd-Lowrider I would assume that they are trying to make it look as it did before it went grey. So perhaps once long ago, they actually had black hair? Possibly they just mis-judged the colour &/or left it in too long. Mistakes like this are common, when one is first learning about hair colouring. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I have a friend here, who would look WAY beter if he covered up the grey. He's a terrific guy, but is also dating disadvantged by being quite short (5'7"), I really think it would help him a lot. I suggested it once & he was quite offended/upset. Oh, well *shrug*

| Why do some older guys dye the hair and facial hair black? Posted: 8/27/2008 9:32:20 PM | Getting back on topic about coloring your hair and facial hair black if your an older guy....why would I want to do that?
I feel comfortable with my natural grey streaks and why both coloring facial hair..... - Daemon66 No offense was intended Daemon66 , but I have read on many forums threads that most women (NOT all), prefer taller men. I have known several shorter men IRL, who have experienced the same problem. Personally I no longer care either way, but I used to prefer shorter men, in fact I was totally uncomfortable with men taller than say, 5'7", for many years.
And in response to your question, obviously YOU wouldn't. Because you do feel comfortable with your grey. Many men (& women, but that's for another thread altogether), are not comfortable with it. And why should they put up with it if they aren't? Well, they shouldn't. We should all be happy with who we are, as best we can.

It looks so fake. I see this often about town to not remark on this. The facial features are obviously over 50. Is 50+ the new goth look? Men that do this, do yourself a favor and go for a lighter hair color. No older lady can look better by doing the same.
Men dye their facial hair for the same reason that women dye their aging locks, and get botox, and tummy tucks, and nosejobs, and titty jobs...I could go on.
And newsflash...it looks as goofy on a man as bad surgery and obvious dye jobs look on a woman

I'd guess that's a lot of it there. I know I couldn't pick a proper color to save my life... I'll just stick with what life dishes out...
My Dad told me about his hair coloring adventure... he didn't like the shade of grey he had so he decided to dye his hair and beard. He just grabbed a box of Black and went for it, because he didn't have a clue about different shades or matching colors...
After dying his hair he said he looked in the mirror and thought he looked like a 35 year old who'd had a VERY hard life...
After that he just worked on finding out how to make his grey a more silverish
I bet these guys don't realize how ridiculous they look.... maybe you should tell them.

After dying his hair he said he looked in the mirror and thought he looked like a 35 year old who'd had a VERY hard life... That is a really good description of one of the guys I knew. Of course it also seemed to draw the color out of his face too. Color that is done that blends in is great, color that looks like a bird pooped on your head, ugh. I am big on looking how you think you good, but I also don't trust mirrors. I think if people look at pictures of themselves, maybe they will see how they really look.
