Posted: 11/26/2008 9:02:00 AM | im sorry...i didnt read most of that post...too darn long..and I am already 49...dont know how many years i have..lol...and thats something coming from a gal who can yack a blue streak and write a book with a moments notice..
I dont know what the hoopla is..its just his opinion...i think in many things he just might be right///many do, do just that at partys..or even just going out to a bar by them selves..I like the partys my self because many guys...my opinion now..are a bit too shy to iniate asking about meeting...I have chatted and eventually met many who are very shy...some painfully so..and a open event is easier..they feel they get lost in
the sea and there for dont feel like a sore thumb...I see many who come..and dont say hello..and just stand behind you...Im not sure why...but last party i noticed this and it puzzled me and It made me think...I never did get any one to approach me and start a conversation..but..i didnt let that stop me..im pretty out going and friendly...i started the conversations..and asked them to dance..so, so much for traditional..I just feel like its easier to meet and see if you like the window dressing enough to chat..I know i have gotten many more emails after people have seen me from a far then emailing and chatting for a while...then meet for coffee...not sure why but it is what i have been observing..and im ok with it..I do how ever think some of what that guy said was very true..many claim not to be into bar scene..but..i dont judge them as i feel we are all able to change our minds and even try something new..we have options in this world..and if we dont excercise them..its on us..I hope many dont get too harsh on here because of this fellas opinion...arent we all entitled to one..and to post it..and of course..to change it..I dont know this guy..or even read the thread he was in..to me it just dont matter.. | |

I totally agree with MemberofPof. Generalizations are always a BAD thing. Lumping all people into a 'category' is almost akin to racism.
And, TY too for pointing out the obvious......someone with 2 months experience SEEMS to have TOO much knowledge about 'who comes and who goes'.
Many of us have questioned whether this was a 'real' profile, or someone 'masquerading'. 
I have said on many posts.......I go to the parties for lack of anything better to do. Like I've told other people........'give me a reason NOT to attend.......and I'll grab it!' | |

POF parties in my humble opinion is NOT the same as hanging out at the bar.
Not being into the bar scene down't make one a liar because they attend POF parties.
If someone was ever to pass on my profile because they've seen pictures of me in the POF party pics...that's most definitely their loss and not mine.
I love to cuddle, hold hands, go for walks, have quiet nights in and I ALSO love going to the POF parties, doesn't make me any of the words that have been used on here.
Should I stay home and dance alone in my living room for fear someone might see me in the POF party pics? Pfffftt!
Should I worry someone is talking about me? I gave up on that nonsense back in elementary school.
I certainly don't think being in the party pics often has hurt the number of emails I get either...not one bit...if anything it has gotten my face out there more to let guys know I'm looking, that I'm fun and friendly.
How are you going to meet great people more often on here if we don't take advantage of the great POF parties? Maybe I should cancel my party...not wanting to be thought of as a party girl...
I promised I'd behave on here so I am just going to quietly step into the next room now before I say what I really want to about such narrow minded comments from some. Grumble grumble grumble | |

Posted: 11/27/2008 3:57:20 AM |  dancing in your living room, eh!!! robin, you party girl! hehehhehehe. for 26 years i never went to parties unless it was with my significant other. this was certainly a change for me going to parties with perfect strangers!! i did not know a soul on POF prior to going to my first party. and the five people i remember most meeting at my first party would be dennie, linda, patty, margie and scot. dennie brought me to their table and the rest is history. and also that was the first time in my entire life that i went "out" at night alone. in my mind i cancelled 100 times prior to going. and, no, it is not like just walking into a bar by yourself. you are going to meet an organization!

Posted: 11/27/2008 8:11:10 AM | | I've been to 5 parties this year. Some have been more fun than others but I think it has to do with my mood for the evening as to how much fun I'll have. Of course, the most fun was at Maxies where I was a greeter along with C.W. Had a blast meeting lots of new people whose profiles I had read before but it was nice putting faces to the profiles. POF parties remind me of when we were younger and would go out dancing and have a lot of fun and not worried about meeting a man. I also remember what it was like going to the bar feeling like you were a side of beef at a meat market. POF parties feel more relaxed. I've had great conversations and met new people. I may not have met Mr. Right but having real conversations is better than sitting at home alone with the cat. I think most POF events tend to be at bars because let's face it where can you find a place that will hold 200 people and create conversation. I'm already ready for warm weather to be here to have some outside events like picnics, go kart races, fun stuff like that. Ok, enough of my rambling. Happy turkey day everyone. | |

It's because after working 10 hour days Monday - Friday (and half of either every Saturday or every Sunday) since I don't have men begging me to go out on a date with them.. I attend a Saturday night POF gathering at a bar to socialize, meet new people and make new friends versus sitting at home at my computer with my cat asleep at my feet. And that makes me a partygirl  . And here I thought it was because I was a fatchick who smokes
My observation for what it's worth...
When it comes to the "regulars", you won't find nicer, friendlier, more humorous people.. and you certainly won't find a player. We are open and honest and bravely put it all out there (versus hiding behind a computer monitor typing mere words which can easily be giving a false impression of who we are and what we really look like). And the group of regulars is getting larger & larger with every POF gathering as those possessing the similar qualities of being nice, friendly, humorous, open and honest find that they are easily accepted.
I actually prefer meeting people at a POF venue versus one on one therefore it's not uncommon that when someone contacts me and expresses an interest in meeting me, I often suggest they attend a POF gathering to meet me.. as well as to meet lots of other single POF females. It's not all about me finding someone compatiable after all. Good people deserve good things happening for them, and someone not suited for me might very well be perfectly suited for one my female acquaintances or some other female in attendance.
Recently one dude expressed his opinion on a forum that POF parties are as bad and boring as Parents-without-Partners meetings or a wake. And now we get this dude expressing his opinion that they are meat markets and drunken puckfests
 Trust me.. If they were a puckfest I surely would not be recharging my batteries every weekend like I do.. lol TMI? :-) | |

Posted: 11/27/2008 12:07:30 PM | well i just got to the city...thinking i'll be headed to club 22 saturday...dang party girl, "didn't you just go to one last month?"...ahhh here's a twist mr matt...one or more of my grown kids usually accompany me when i do attend pof parties, we all have a great time...and yes there are goofy pics out there of me with someone sittin on my lap, me kissing the top of someones head, crossing my eyes at the camera, etc....doesn't everyone take pics at functions?
p.s. val if you're reading no pics of me at 22 if i come...the kissing mafita wouldn't like the publicity

They hang out at bars! They have a great time and they even meet new people and welcome them into the fold!
My advice to you DH is better stick to meeting new folks at the library...and if heaven forbid you decide to go...don't let them take your picture!  
One never knows about them people...they might be fake, unlike the nice people who don't go and sit home in front of their computer instead ever night | |

Best to sit home all alone on the weekends,,,count our lucky stars we arent part of THAT crowd!! *gasps* Guess all we can hope for is Mr/Ms Right will just knock on our doors!

True story. A VERY attractive door to door religious solicitor (won't say which religion as to not offend) girl once knocked on my door. She was attractive enough for me to actually hear out her shpiel. She didn't seem appreciative when I told her she had pretty eyes though. Just handed me the track and walked out of my life forever.  | |
