i disagree, i chat initially online, then swop a phone number... then later have a phonecall conversation and meet. phonecalls are limited due to work commitments so the need tomeet is sincere. these meetings are dates which is courting...am i so old fashioned??

Courting is dead, Cupid is dead, and Romance is dead....and the person or persons responsible for their untimely demise should be hunted down and slaughtered......

Very funny but sadly true. I'll hold the jack light for you, while you try to spot the "wolves in sheep's clothing."

Anything only dies if you allow it to, keep your heart open and you will find it, perhaps not always in the manner you expect but its out there.

It's actually a very serious question. Sadly, the quaint, social custom of "courting" is on life support, right next to its bedmate, chivalry.

The last two guys that were enamoured by me and wanted to take me to dinner, begged to take me to dinner, just turned into grabby pushy scary jerks who were looking for a piece of a$$. Not my idea really of courting, how about you. So now I turn down dinner invitations. There are a lot more guys interested in getting laid as fast as they can , rather than courting, so you have to assume the majority and be happy if it is anything else. Totally disenchanted and distrustful. We have a club now.

If is it, I missed the funeral.

I still:
bring flower(s)
open doors
remove my hat when greeting (a woman of any age)
compliment on her attire
hold hands
learn her preferences
call if I've been delayed
ask her to dance, in a gentlemanly manner (whew! almost forgot the comma)
escort her off the dance floor arm in arm
bring her trinkets
surprise her with a bouquet (sp?)
pull out the chair for her
walk her to the door
tell her I missed her
and tease and play till she relaxes enough to bust a gut laughing!

The hard part is many women have been tainted into believing that only "players" exhibit these behaviors anymore. Don't Believe It!!!!!

Come on down to Texas! Courting is still alive here!!!

So you're saying: public executions are still alive here?

Sounds like a bad oxymoron.

Never heard of it sir. Care to give me a source and I'll check it out.

Off Topic: The last public execution in the US happened in the 1930's in Kentucky.

On topic: Courting is only dead if you allow it to be.

Hey Levi? You forgot one thing in that list of yours? Where the gentelman walks on the "outside" of the sidewalk to protect his date! Now that is an old one and I am dating myself by bringing it up. I was actually out on a date who did this. Was most impressed, although, obviously not enough! lol
Is courting dead? Depends on whom one dates I think!

Well Moon,

I'm quite aware of that one (I'm dated too - pun?) and practice it. I was going to add an item of "always ensure her safety" to my list, but felt I had done enough self-promotion and that I had, in all likelyhood, already called "Bashing Gods" down on me.

I really am curious what women consider "courting", but perhaps that's another thread.

For me, "courting" really doesn't begin, in 'earnest', until mutual interest is established. Hard to say, but maybe around the 3rd date.

It sure ISN'T dead....I'm being courted right now....and lovin' it.

Levi501, don't ever stop what you are doing...there are lots of women who still appreciate it, as you can tell by this thread.

Uh...in this post-Feminist world...you first. I don't remember signing up to keep a sinking ship afloat.

Haven't we learned by now that what people say and what people do can be distinctly different?

I consider myself blessed with what I have; adding one more person into the mix will either water or down or stress it out too much. It's a fine balance, y'know.

I would love it if I met a guy that walked on the street side like men did years ago. I doubt whether people even think about that stuff anymore.

My late husband was like that.....he was very romantic...He would call me from the office and ask me out to dinner. He always held my hand and walked on the outside. He was a great lover, protector, father, and provider. He courted me all through our marriage. They are hard to come by, but they are out there....
