Maybe if they upped minimum wage to at least £10 an hour there would be more incentive and the chance to live a decent live where you could see the benefits of working?
The point i was making wasnt necesarrily the tax or salary, Its Kinda like this, i would say i am on a slightly above average salary yes, 40% goes to the tax man .. as the brackets change when it gets to a certain amount. Then from this, I was sitting with a friend of mine who is a mum of 4 and it turns out, she had more expendable income than i did after everythin, Now as someone who works very hard in a very stressfull environment, Its slightly disheartening.
I understand what you mean many hours and taxes and taxes and how great it would be to bring up minimum wage, That would be brilliant however, that causes a bit of a complication.
The wages are paid by small to medium businesses, which make just enough money to break even in most cases. Asking them to have to pay people more, puts them out of business, then then whole system would collapse due to mass unemployment.
To create an equilibrium, a lot of money has to be redistributed,
Brilliant example is Lambeth council recently saved 10 million in salaries, By moving thier street level staff to other departments and made it compalsary for long term unemployed to fulfil the former street staff tasks, Those who were not able to were put as placement staff for local businesses. In exchange, the lond term unemplyed continued to get thier full housing and other benefits out there.
It becomes contravercial to do on a nation scale. | |

I have never claimed benefits but can say that the government are forcing those whose kids reach the age of 13 to get a job. So then, now what happens to all the foreigners who live of our taxes, or the criminals who get a false ID and 24 hour police protection... this is where a high percentage of our taxes go | |

Something small about foreiners that a lot of people overlook,
Of all of them, most come to work, or work illegally, which is actually good for the economy, In the sense that, a lot come, want to work for years, raise their fortune then go back, what this means is they pay money into the pot, but they are n0t going to retire or be on pension in this country so all the accumilated taxes they would have accured, It all stays when they go.
You are right, the benefit system being intact, makes people have kids at 13 as its easier.
This doesnt happen in other countries because there is no elaborate benefit system to fall back on like here. So many powerful nations survive without it, Personally i think its going to crash sooner than people think as people have cottoned on and a lot of people are claiming for something or another, maybe not cutting off the system immediately but taking immediate steps to cut it off as its only a matter of time till it crashes. then a lot of people will get a wake up call.

What about me hey, I have been a very hard worker my entire life, albeit not always in this country, about 2 years ago I suffered a third prolapsed disc, and recent discovery which I won't bore you with has now made me unable to work full time ever again...I don't qualify for incapacity benifit because I was out of country for 7 years, so I 0nly get Income Support...are you saying I should recieve nothing? Are you saying I now should struggle for the rest of my life earning nothing and ruining my spine even further by doing community work...
I am offended at your thoughtless post and your arrogance that everyone is in the same boat...
If I didn't get this benifit I would now be dead as I wouldn't know how to cope, I am suffering from severe depression (not the oh I can't be bothered kind...but the real deal) I have bills coming in thick and fast, I have to eat and I have to pay some of my rent, and thats on a tiny £52 a week....I don't have money to do anything, I don't have money to even go and buy a dvd or cd now and then....so try thinking next time before you post you troll. | |

Wow, where can you buy brushes that massive, to tar the hole of the nation with it. That is impressive.
As for bins, there are plenty of them, it is the people throwing the rubbish on the floor in the first place, that are the problem.
About the benifit. I get family tax credid. I work 35 hours a week, do the shopping, the cleaning, take care of my 2 children and my granddaughter and should work picking up rubbish in the streets (example) when I finished all of the above? When should I be doing that? At 12 to 6 in the morning? Who needs sleep anyway right. | |

The tax you pay goes on so much more then just the benefit system .
Have you actually researched how much the government spends on their "boys toys"
Have you calculated that a single mother (with one child living out of London) on benefit actually gets less then one member of parliament gets for his travel expenses in one year!! This includes paying for their council tax and rent for the single parent.
I understand people on low wages must get extremely irate when they see people on benefit swanning around looking as if they have lots of money. Though unless the people on benefit are committing fraud - it is very unlikely that they have lots of money - and are actually trying to make ends meet.
There are also some who do not want to get jobs and want to laze in front of tv. These are the layabouts that should be put into community work in order to get their benefit paid.
For the record - yes - I am single mother on benefit (for quite some time) I have tried to get work though have been very unlucky. I have helped in numerous community projects on an ad-hoc basis, as well as helping families when they are going through hard patches. | |

Lucky you OP. I'm assuming with a level of income like that you're not on PAYE. Is your accountant not doing his job properly?
Personally, I think the tax burden is unfairly borne by those that are in the PAYE scheme, that is, generally, the employed and the not-so-big-earners.

Again OP, you are lucky, you have options as to where you live, you can choose anything you want. Your friend has been lucky in the house that she has (from the council not the government), is big. With that info, I'm assuming she has a big family since council properties are given according to need rather than desirability. Also, they are given in the area that you are. There's no choosing to move to be near better schools or because the area's gone downhill a bit.

I get no government help bar child benefit. However not too bothered that I don't have a widescreen TV, mansion, or a foreign holiday every year. I can make do and mend, budget carefully, same as my parents did, my kid doesn't get every he wants, but instead has to love everything he needs. He'll learn the world doesn't owe you a living, and that "things" have more value when you save for them.
This winter numerous pensioners will die as they do every year of hypothermia, many will be unable to obtain lifesaving drugs for cancer etc, carers will struggle with disabled dependants on a pittance. Your taxes help alleviate the situation for innumerable of societies most vulnerable and pay for policing etc too.
If you had suggested diverting your tax funds to pay for more police or nurses or respite care for the rellies of alzeimers victims I'd have had more sympathy. It's personal greed and selfishness at ALL levels that is wrecking this country. The bankers have led us to recession through greed, and the government will make us all pay for it, workshy or grafter. | |

How long should the deadline to find a partner be? 6 mnths/12mnths.
Quite a presumption that all single mums just sit at home breeding rather than working and paying taxes.
Funny also that the majority of single mums i know do work yet they do not seem to moan about the tax they are paying,instead they focus on working hard to provide for their family.

Then on the subject of maintance I wish this is just lar lar land CSA dont want to know to hard to pursue him as he is self empolyed and he has all the access he wants to his child my gripe is with him not using the children ,am currently stuggling to get school uniforms and shoes for children this year with every bill going up and wages not changing i dont even get help with school dinners as i work !!!! he is not willing to pay at all , Maybe i just might find out my cat woman outfit and stand on the local motorway Single female parents for justice | |
