The FIA International Court of Appeal will meet in Paris on September 22 to consider McLaren’s appeal against the 25-second time penalty handed out to Lewis Hamilton in last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. A decision is expected the following day.
Hamilton dropped from first to third place in the Spa results after stewards decided he had gained an advantage by cutting the final chicane during his late-race battle with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, whose team mate, Felipe Massa, inherited the win.
McLaren insist Hamilton was not at fault as he immediately relinquished the lead to Raikkonen following the incident. The team also claim that they were twice told by race control that their driver’s conduct appeared to be within the rules.
The Court must first decide whether McLaren’s appeal is admissible. Hamilton’s 25-second penalty substituted a drive-through, due to the incident taking place so late in the race. Drive-through penalties are not normally open to appeal.

I missed the bloody race and haven't yet seen a replay....... must look for one on t'internet!

Otherwise he'd be starting in a different time zone from everyone else. He's a great driver in the wet though isn't he? Eh? Isn't he?

I bet that's got the FIA crapping themselves.
I wouldn't be surprised if they re-instate Hamiltons win in Spa, give him the title and throw Ferrari out of F1 forever because of that.

Much better watch moto GP tomorrow evening , Rossi nd Stoner hammer and tongs again ...

The reason behind Hamilton's poor position wasn't his driving ability ( in the main) but rather the tyre choice and circumstance ...
I still hope that last weeks decision is overturned and I still believe that Hamilton behaved properly ( not loyalty, just sense of fair play. I really DO believe he was treated unfairly) but boy this will make for an interesting race... I think Ham will either crash out or take 3 places in the first corner lol ....

Congrats to vettell, awesome drive. Finally Minardi wins a race.

Funny that the drives dont support hamilton in his appeal, yet ALL the ex drivers support him, funny that, not like the current drivers are jealous of him, oh no never.

It was great to see how ineffective a driver Massa really is, started 6th, finished 6th, despite Bourdais who qualified 3rd dropping back a lap before the GP even started! Whilst his title challenger Hamilton probably overtook the most number of cars in one race this season. Great race from Vettel, never gave no-one but the superb Hamilton a chance, even then the pit stop was timed to perfection so that the intermediates could be thrown on as the forecasted rain did not come.

Funny how people can be selective and only hear what they want to once they have already made up their minds about something.

| HAMILTON DEMOTED FROM FIRST Posted: 9/14/2008 6:47:17 PM | I think it's something more along the lines of the FIA not wanting Hamilton to become another 'Schumacher' to which he obviously has the potential for.... so they pounce on anything they can to try to hold him back.
Hamilton gave back the position clearly if you watch the replay. He abided by the rules, even after being bumped off the track by Kimi.
But then again..... Raikkonen needs all the help he can get, FIA or otherwise.
Funny how people can be selective and only hear what they want to once they have already made up their minds about something.
..... yes..... funny isn't it.

I wonder if he will be tempted away from Mclaren now he has seen first hand the obvious dislike Max has of them...
Perhaps he would be better at a less controversial team ???
Like ermmmm Ferrari perhaps ???

The lad has a touch of agro to him, will lead to inspired performances like his charge yesterday in the first half of the race, other times it will end in controversy like the spa race.
