The licence allows installation and use of tv equipment, it depends how you define the word installation, if it's in your house, it's installed
Nope, I'm right, you're wrong. They have to prove it was installed to watch realtime broadcasts of TV. They cannot prove that because you have it installed.
It's not how you define the word installation, it's the law that binds them and that law states that equipment must be installed for viewing They can't prove you're viewing just because you have it.

the bbc, the licence collection company, or the licence itself is not the law. it depends on what the law says and nothing else, unless you like being gullible and paying money for nothing

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 4:35:44 AM | Ner ner na ner ner to you too childish man.
Pay attention now ........................... THEY DON'T HAVE ANY EQUIPMENT.
Not that I have to justify myself to you but I have a license and I have one because I am a wonderful and law abiding citizen, so as you childishly wish me to get caught it's not going to happen.
I posted on this thread because I know how they operate, unlike you who is buying into their bullsh*t propagander

I posted on this thread because I know how they operate, unlike you who is buying into their bullsh*t propagander Is'nt that what you've done by buying a license? sounds to me like you just spat out your dummy because you have to pay for something you rarely use, bit like a car i suppose
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 4:50:54 AM | I am spitting nothing. I was merely advising the good people of pof as to how the TV licensing system actually works because I used to work for them.
I have a license because the law requires me to have one, I haven't actually stated whether or not I agree with said license and therefore your point makes little sense and has no basis, pretty much like the rest of your comments on this thread.
Why don't I use my car? Am I stupidly confused or confused by stupidity?
Please tell me we're done.
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 4:51:40 AM | The TV license is a ridiculously outdated concept. When there were 4 channels fair enough, but these days you don't need the BBC channels as there are plenty of free ones or others which you can choose to subscribe to.
I would argue that its worth keeping the publically funded BBC as its vastly better than the commerical channels, but the funding should simply come from income tax - the rise needed would be a barely noticeable amount and this way it would not cost money to enforce.
Its a tax not a "license" so add it to tax.
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 5:03:55 AM | Your obviously not reading the posts. Yes you said you use to work for them
Many years ago I worked for the prosecutions department of TV Licensing
The prosections office is full of extremely stupid people, some of whom are illiterate and therefore if you know big words they are easily confused. where did i say this>>>
I haven't actually stated whether or not I agree with said license
Why don't I use my car? Am I stupidly confused or confused by stupidity? Yes. i think you are, dear
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 5:11:35 AM | Quoting me over and over again without adding comment is not helping me understand you. Is there a point to the quoting? I know what I wrote.
Where did you say what? That I don't agree with the license? You said I had spit the dummy about paying for something I rarely use, thus infering that I am unhappy about paying.
I now conclude that I am definitely confused by stupidity.
Please don't bother to respond if you're not going to answer direct questions because I think you're all quoted out.

obviously, only somone like you would pay a fine for nothing.
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 5:46:53 AM | I am no great fan of tv so don't watch it much. When I do I watch it on my laptop, through either BBC iplayer, or other companies equivalent. The law states that no licence is required when watching archived programmes, so therefore I don't buy one.
In practise I find this works better for me, as I can watch any programme I want to WHEN I want to, perfect.
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 9:30:49 AM | if they have a licens, they should feel fine. but trust me, those vans they have are full of funky little instruments that can tell them what you are watching, let alone if you have a tele
Interesting theory as I don't have a TV, and have been told by them that they picked up a signal. Yeah whatever! He wasn't overly impressed when I laughed in his face telling him it was bullsh*t. But he wouldn't tell me when this supposedly happened "in case it went to court". Bully boy tactics!
OT. Be interesting to see how Noel Edmunds gets on.
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 12:28:53 PM | | I am in agreement with Katrina on this I would gladly pay extra if they promise to ban any shows with Edmonds. I thought he was leaving the country anyway so why is he still here | |
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 12:41:53 PM | I do remember years and years ago a case where some old lady (pensioner..before it was free for them) had a black and white TV and video recorder....she bought a Black and white license but they had her up in court cause the video recorder was able to recieve and record in colour...
how wrong is that! | |
|
| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 4:03:48 PM | How the hell do you lot get away without paying?? Quite easily. Haven't paid mine for years.
They can't prove you're viewing just because you have it. Yes they can, they have the equipment to prove your watching it. Erm, don't be silly. Or are you one of those people who believes that "TV licence detector vans" were real?
At the end of the day, it's against the law to watch TV without a license Erm, no it isn't.

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/15/2008 4:17:22 PM | When I moved into a 'Monday to Thursday flat' for work, away from home, I didn't bother getting a TV.
Within two weeks the threatening letters from the TV licencing folk started. I had dozens and dozens of letters, all ignored and binned, and then they sent a fella round, to look in my wardrobe and under my bed (it was hugely funny, he couldn't believe I didn't have a TV!).
Finally when I got a TV, and a licence, they tried to backdate the licence to when I first moved into the flat.
As it happens, I think the BBC is great. I watch BBC TV more than any other channels, I use their website for news and weather and I listen to the football in my car on Radio 5.
Edit: Oh, and I finally saw Noel Edmonds' TV show, the one where he opens boxes! No wonder he's bitter...

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/16/2008 2:00:49 AM | I may not agree with income tax........ but I pay it.
I may not agree with road tax....... but I pay it.
I may not agree with many taxes and fees but I pay them.
It's people like you who make the rest of us pay more than we need to. Thanks!!!
................................................................................................................................................ What a prat , thats the type of jealous crap that makes this country such a dump to live in . So i guess you would also be happy to see someone have their car crushed because their road tax was out of date ? Why should anyone have to buy a TV licence ??? Just so the idiot BBC can pay the likes of Jonathon Ross 2,5 million a year . They should be forced to advertise like all the others , there is no justification in what they do at all . The UK is a dictatorial dump full of apathetic people who just moan & do nothing . Unless somebody comes along with the guts to change thing it will just get worse . If thousands formed a group & all refused to buy a licence & every single member of that group attended every court case in protest . Then things would soon change . Same with the nonsense about car tax , how will charging 450 quid a year help save this planet ? It wont , of course . Its just dictatorial greed , same with gas & electric prices ....Greed ! Bring on the revolution !!! ( that should bring a few pompous replies LOL ! ) I love a bit of controvousy..

So kind, thank you for your lovely comment.
You can be pretty sure that if a car is untaxed it's also uninsured and has no MOT. So yes, I would be bloody delighted to see every untaxed car crushed, that would keep most of the uninsured scumbags off our roads.
Jealousy is all about wanting something you can't have and feeling bitter and twisted about it. As I am in the fortunate position, through a lifetime of hard work and financial risk taking, of being able to have pretty much what I want and to be able to pay for it without b*tching about it, what makes you think I’m jealous?
I am a partner in a business in Latvia where the average salary is around 500 Euros (£395) a month, even an airline pilot or a top surgeon is lucky if he earns around £900 - £1,000 a month, and many high street prices are not that much less than here. Petrol is around 70p a litre, a mobile phone would cost you about £200 etc etc. I spend a lot of time there and people don't whinge anywhere near as much as you although they struggle to pay for things. You have no idea how lucky you are living in the UK.

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/16/2008 1:49:41 PM | I tend not to take the ramblings of a man who claims to see angels and orbs (whatever they wre) too seriously
Mind you it could could come in handy if he winds up in court although insanity is normally used as a defence for more serious matters than using an unlicenced TV

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/16/2008 3:45:25 PM | Agree with you all the way.
BBC 2 is a joke of a channel and so are there radio channel.
Taken the kids show CBeebies what a joke, i know they don,t understand but repeat all the time.Don,t forget we are paying for this aswell.
Make a stand people and do what badge 34 does.
Fact they need a warrent to enter your home with the police.
There database is just a computer on the net.
Tv do not transmitter just like normal radio.

| Noel Edmunds & The TV Licence !! Posted: 9/16/2008 4:22:33 PM | There was more to what Noel Edmunds wanted to do than bring up the tv licence debate and that was to tackle hoodies, broken britain, inner city estates and the message was that we can't wait for the Government to sort these issues out and as communites we need to pull together and reclaim these Isles. The fact that this great message is lost in this debate I feel is a massive shame, and that Noels been a bit of prat as this was always going to be lynched on by the media and the rest forgotten.
I pay my licence and have always known that if I didn't I wouldn't be in any trouble as hard to prove, But I know I can commit lots of crimes and get away with them but again chose not to. Some of the laws I chose not to bring I consider trivial, I even consider some laws very valid and respect them but chose to break them. I will not gloat about these as I don't think anybody should be proud of breaking the law. To those that don't pay the tv licence, do you insure your car?, do you pay car tax? or drive round in fake plates so you can't be detected?

Tv do not transmitter (sic) just like normal radio Get an radio with long wave on it. put the radio sitting beside an ordinary TV tune into a weak LW station and switch on the TV then tell me again how TV's dont radiate any signals.
