For the Time being, there is ZERO Tolerance for Trolls posting Flamebait, Insults, or peddling Agendas. Report as usual in the Forum Rule Violations - Report Thread. Automatic 28 Day minimum Vacation Package.
Doesn't solve the problem the troll just can make a new account using new email and ip address. Not that easy anymore either.
Reporting just makes things worse not better. That is about as false as it could possibly get. We sniff them out rather quickly, we have all the Tools and Users in place to tip us off.
Even the best of the best at ignoring trolls get caught up in it occassionally. Because it goes unreported. |

| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/21/2008 3:52:15 PM | Best way is not to respond to trolls, flamers, etc. Reporting just makes things worse not better. I'll disagree. An experienced forum user who recognizes a troll may simply ignore him. But new forum posters join this site regularly. Many of these new people may get their 1st impression of the forums by reading troll posts. Some of them may be quickly frightened away by trolling and flaming. Others may begin posting, basing their own posts on their observations of troll posts, as they have gotten the impression that such posts are normal and accepted. As a result, people with sincere posting intentions are driven away, while people who are willing to join the trolling and flaming are not. The forum then becomes more difficult to moderate, and less enjoyable for a normal person to post in. | |

So you have one answer that needs clarification and 3 asking about that, so you really only have 17 posts. I am not sure how limitation makes sense on ask a girl or ask a guy.
We read spam posts for other sites that have forums that don't have these limitations. Don't you think you will loose people that come back to check for their mail because of the forums, thus loosing the people that you want on here to get the advertisers? Just wondering what type of research you did prior to making a decision of this nature.

Enabling User Voting or relegating these Forums off to another Area such as the My Matches Page and not visible on the Global Forums does.

Just wondering what type of research you did prior to making a decision of this nature. You need to find out what a Forum is in the truest Sense of the Meaning. |

Closed Forums: Politics Current Events Religion So you have included the "back door" links to these forums, essentially inviting users to continue posting, how then are they "closed" ????
I have lost track of how many times I have asked these questions, and I can assure you I will not waste my time again, so hopefully someone can answer this time. I am not the only one who would like an answer either....
HOW LONG WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO POST IN THE "CLOSED" FORUMS?
WILL I EVENTUALLY LOSE MY TRACKED THREADS?

The Admin stated they were closed, but there has been no Word you cannot post on them. It appears he has so far only removed the Exposure (Forum Links) to them. Chances are he is uncertain monitoring User Response, Cool-Off Time-Out, and/or until the Elections have passed, or leave them as they are now.
This does not give anyone a Free-for-all Bashfest. We're down a Mod, anyone found trolling in these is gonna nailed hard.

It appears he has so far only removed the Exposure (Forum Links) to them. Perhaps they've just been removed from the main forum page, but will never be truely closed? I remember a forum called "Dating Sites" which used to be on this site. It's been long ago removed from the main forum page. But, threads in that forum can still show up in searchs, and it appears that, even after being removed from the main page about a year ago, someone could still post there. I noticed that by accident awhile ago, when a thread from that forum showed up while I was searching for something.

| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/21/2008 7:22:06 PM | The Current Events forum was the one I particpated in the most along with Sports, Science/Philosophy and Off Topic.
I enjoyed POF since along with showing my availability with the chance of meeting my match, I could also participate in intellegent discussions. I have met some fascinating people through these forums.
With the removal of these forums, a large chunk of the intellectual threads are being removed ..... I, for one, will probably be leaving POF since these threads exposed me to some great people ..... not the shallowness that is prevalent here on the other forums.
I could have gone on other forum sites, but I didn't want to spend any more time "surfing cyberspace" than I am already. Now, it looks like I will go elsewhere ... since my guess is that many other intellectuals will be leaving POF as well.
Is this the objective of the creator of POF? It appears so. Is there some hidden agenda that will be surfacing soon? I can't see this decision ending up being good for the reputation of POF.
Have you heard of "dumbing down our kids"? ...... well, what is happening here?

But, threads in that forum can still show up in searchs, and it appears that, even after being removed from the main page about a year ago, someone could still post there. Its also quite possible it may not be an easy Task to code these Categories out of the Forums as they are tied to Posting Histories and the Searches. I used to post on the Ghost Town Site which was removed circa late 2004 when the new Site went up then. Many Mod Functions which have been taken out of circulation are still accessible also.
Since the Site is always on the Verge of crashing bursting at the Seams Traffic overloading the Servers, the Admin may require more Time to knock these Categories out of permanent Access. Thus possibly a technical Issue only.
| I am sure should more Complaints come flying in from these "closed-off" Forums, they'll be put 'Short Shrift' to. I don't really want | to see these Forums go, there really is no Reason for it, unless one is afraid of a little Bit of Work or too lazy to put the Infrastructure into Place. For this Reason I am gonna buckle down heavy on Trolls in these 3 Areas, because if I don't, they'll get axed permanently for sure.
So please report. Lack of it was ultimately the Reason for their Demise. |

| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/21/2008 11:10:30 PM | I would like to make the suggestion here, Admin/Mods, that someone edit the locked "rules" post at the top of the "ask a" forums with the new 20-post rule?
Seen a few posts in the regular forums of people thinking their posts aren't working - and not everyone knows to come to this forum to look - plus if rules are in effect for them, shouldn't they be part of the rules posted up top anyways?
At least add another post to the end of those threads with the new rules?
|
| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/22/2008 5:55:31 AM | Along with all the changes and mod axing and troll baiting.... why don't you temporarily rope someone in to go through all the Forums and AUTOMATICALLY DELETE anything titled "I'm wondering" or "Just asking" or "I have a question"........................
Anything on the first page of viewing that breaks the 'ambiguous title rule' should automatically see dust.
Think of all the dumbass threads you would see gone in two seconds flat!!!

assumes they can spell. In order for auto deletion it would need words spelt correctly.
Harsh? Well, considering they are unable to read the rules, I would not like to work on the assumption they can spell.
|
| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/22/2008 8:47:14 AM | Assuming they can't spell and aren't reading the rules is just another reason to automatically delete those threads without so much as opening them up and reading the OT.
Just press/delete.
And of course now I'M assuming *they'll* get the message when *they* see all *their* threads suddenly disappearing.
Call me evil. | |

While you're there, consider reminding people to post descriptive subjects (actually, you call them "questions" for the dumbed down AAG forums). As previously mentioned, it defeats the use of the previous thread subject search when many of them are "Was I wrong", "What happened?" or "silly question".....

| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/22/2008 5:04:48 PM | Did I mention already that I miss the political, religious, and current events forums?
And did I already mention that I think it's an unfortunate judgment call to get rid of these forums entirely? Ahh, yes I think I did.
Well, I thought I would mention it again. At one time I thought this was one of the best sites on the web, for dating purposes. It was unique and stood out in the virtual crowd because of its varied and educational (in all ways) forums, and because it draws people from all over the world to these same forums to interact on so many different topics, running the gamut of categories.
With a gaping hole now set forth in the forums, where categories are now relegated to a few "dramatic" issues, or science, the forums have lost something important. I do hope the upcoming election here at POF will have our administrator (Big Fish) bring our wonderful forums back to us in the very near future. Thanks for caring, and I mean that sincerely.

I have been in the political forums I haven't...... But that doesn't mean I have not followed some of them with an interest to garner other perspectives. On a personal level, I would prefer a more one on one scenario for such topic discussion. Same goes for Religion, Sex, or even how to best treat your dog.
I feel what is now taking place in these forums is akin to stepping in Quicksand. How far can one venture before they are swallowed up whole? Will my last post remain for others to see and respond? Am I wasting my limited time on this Earth typing something that may not even exist in another hour? Simply put, will my next post in any of these forums be there tomorrow or not?
We all know that in this situation your hands are tied Mods. I think we also know your, the few that remain, posture's on this subject?
Admin, you have been on the front edge and profited from your vision quite well thus far. Congrats to you for an awesome job, but, while you relish your riches! Don't forget all the millions that ensured your success. Don't forget the few that had always put your welfare ahead of theirs. Don't ever stop listening to the little people. For it is the little peoples shoulders upon which you stand!

| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/23/2008 4:23:02 AM | Just a question here on trolling....in the forums I keep seeing what looks like a POF person...but they have no history, or picture and I can't see their profile. To me those look like trollers. They are all over the political forums. What gives? | |
|
| More Major Forum Changes Posted: 9/23/2008 4:29:28 AM | | Maybe their profiles were deleted for trolling? Or they deleted their profiles themselves to go somewhere where they could get away with breaking the rules. Do a user search on their name, if they deleted themselves, it will say when they closed their account, and if it says nothing, then they were deleted by POF. | |

I'll try and work something into them tonight Much appreciated.
But there's still a nit of a problem. The forum heading "replies" seems inaccurate. It's actually the message count (includes the original post as well as replies). So the good people that read the moderator warning, take note of the 20 reply limit are going to be confused when they see 21 "replies" or think that "20 replies" means they can't add to the topic.
I know, no increased ad revenue by changing that heading to "messages" or "posts", or fixing the count to exclude the original post. But if it's a simple change, it might eliminate some confusion or WTF reactions.
